You are the best teacher I've come across. I picked up banjo about 3 years ago. I wanted to learn it and foggy mountain break down was what I started out on with another guy. I got pretty good at it then a string broke. 3 years later I ordered 3 sets of strings yesterday. I'm going do your lessons now before I try foggy mountain. Thank you.

Old Licks! I thought it said lids. Because I love to polish, replace hardware and just showcase(in the case) my banjo than practice. I've got grumpy old neighbor that complains of any noise.

Hey Jim, love the videos! This might be a more complex question than I realize but what makes these licks “G-licks” exactly as opposed to some other key or chord or note?
@JimPankey
@JimPankey Жыл бұрын
Because they work over a G chord. They’re centered around notes that are found in a G chord, scale, or G arpeggio.

Since banjo is open tuned in G, it's main (root) licks, in that key, came to be called "G licks." But i think it can also be taken to mean "Root/Key licks," such that you need your "G licks" even for playing out of C position.

Im still waiting for someone to show a very common G lick that's usually used at the end of a break measure. JD does it in Blue Ridge Cabin Home. Something like: - 0 0 ??? - 2/3 3 - - - 0
@JimPankey
@JimPankey Жыл бұрын
It's similar of a couple of the licks in this series... Based out of licks #6 and #7 Go back to JD's version and slow it down.

@@JimPankey Thanks. Really appreciate these. Finally getting to the "aha" moment where I realize you basically stuff licks in everywhere to fill space. So this is helpful. I only knew a few of them.
