You are the best teacher I've come across. I picked up banjo about 3 years ago. I wanted to learn it and foggy mountain break down was what I started out on with another guy. Because they work over a G chord. They’re centered around notes that are found in a G chord, scale, or G arpeggio.

Since banjo is open tuned in G, it's main (root) licks, in that key, came to be called "G licks." But i think it can also be taken to mean "Root/Key licks," such that you need your "G licks" even for playing out of C position.

Im still waiting for someone to show a very common G lick that's usually used at the end of a break measure. JD does it in Blue Ridge Cabin Home. Something like: - 0 0 ??? - 2/3 3 - - - 0

It's similar of a couple of the licks in this series... Based out of licks #6 and #7 Go back to JD's version and slow it down.
