I've been driving an XJ8 for a few years now, had 2 of them. Those fuel economy figures are just how they are. 17 mpg in town is completely normal, and 27 on the motorway is the best I've EVER had. They are great cars in so many ways, so I forgive the thirst.
@TaketotheRoad6 жыл бұрын
Yup that was how I found it. I wasn't sure what to expect really as I had an XJ40 before, which wasn't too bad on fuel given its size. But the 3.2 V8 did like to drink more than the AJ6 3.6. Sadly my XJ8 is now gone (blown head gasket was the final straw of what was a poor car) so I'll never know if the figures would have gotten better. A shame really as it drove beautifully, when it worked.

I have been told that the 4.0 V8 is a little better in fact due to being higher geared. Not verified this however.

Sounds plausible. Doubt the XJR would beat it though😉

Take to the Road my x350 xjr gets 28/30 on a motorway run 👍

That’s very good especially for an XJR👍

Used Redex for years and it's good stuff.My 2002 Yaris Auto went from roughly 44mpg to 48mpg best.I use it 3x year (Every 4 months) not every other fill up.I always have an extra 2 PSI in the front tyres in all my cars through out my life so that didn't effect the mpg is this case as when i purchased my Yaris 10 yrs ago it wasn't really nippy till Redex was used.Coasting to round a bouts/junctions also helps folks as well as an extra 2 PSI in the tyres.
@TaketotheRoad5 жыл бұрын
Yup some good advise there. When I drive manuals I like to coast as well. Have to confess I like seeing how much I can gain on the mpg gauge with a bit of coasting. And driving in a higher gear too. But yes tyre pressure is crucial and one people tend to ignore. And of course a heavy right foot doesn’t help with the figures either😉
@tardeliesmagic5 жыл бұрын
@@TaketotheRoad I got 47 MPG from my auto and figures say that's nearly spot on for a 2002 Yaris.It's not far off a manual thou and the cost of a clutch,clutch cable (Poss) and gear box it's worth getting an auto personally as there's so much traffic nowadays.Original auto gear box and i changed the ATF at 73k.Idling and traffic really takes a toll on a car in this time and age so changing fluids early is a good idea.Yes oil is good for 10k but you do get issues when you do that over the years.
@TaketotheRoad5 жыл бұрын
Yes changing fluids on auto boxes is wise, despite many manufacturers saying they are "sealed for life" and don't need changing. Which is rubbish. Then at 70k or so miles, depending on how hard a life the car has had, you need a new gearbox. Fresh ATF doesn't cost much compared to a gearbox swap.

Blown head gasket soon after using Redex, coincidence?
@TaketotheRoad6 жыл бұрын
Well I would say it was the rad weld that was shoved into the radiator by the previous owner to conceal a leaking rad which contributed to a blown head gasket. Nothing to do with what went in the petrol tank!
@huwbishop69955 жыл бұрын
Serves you right for buying the shitty Ford abomination with a jag badge on. My old AJ16 x300 did 30mpg on the motorway, and 20 mixed town and open road. That's in Wales, so uphill alot. But Redex is good.
@MrLodonlondon5 жыл бұрын
Did u fix it ?
@TaketotheRoad5 жыл бұрын
No I decided not to in the end. Went back to the dealer I got it from. The cost of repairing the head gasket and the knock on affect of that meant a parts and labour bill close to £3k! Which was a bit too much really. So it had to go. A sad end to my XJ8 ownership.
@badboygto4 жыл бұрын
do you think redex had anything to do with head gasket
@TaketotheRoad4 жыл бұрын
No it was due to a faulty cooling system that snowballed and lead to the head gasket failure. Wasn’t down to Redex at all.

Well yeah I did have plans to drive it. But then it blew a head gasket. Which I said in the video! And the power steering pump failed. So going driving wasn’t an option. Worst heap of junk I ever bought!

@@TaketotheRoad yeah I didn't watch the whole video I skipped through it lol, I'll change my thumbs down, it really sucks when your dream car turns into a nightmare, I've been there myself
@TaketotheRoad4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yup it was a nightmare. After the video was made it was towed away back to the dealership I bought it from for a refund. A shame as it was a clean XJ8. Just bodged by previous owners which then snowballed when I got it. Unfortunately.
