Little, brown, scuttly dragons that hunted down the mice and rats in well-organized packs. Preposterously huge sea dragons that were twenty times as big as the big blue whale. Some say they crawled back into the sea, leaving not a bone nor a fang for men to remember them by. Others say they were nothing but folktales to begin with. I’m okay with that." "Legend says that when the ground quakes, or lava spews from the earth, it’s the dragons, letting us know they’re still here, waiting for us to figure out how to get along. Yes, the world believes the dragons are gone, if they ever existed at all. But we Berkians, we know otherwise. I love the soundtrack of HTYD, it is so elegant and fierce, so light and heavy, it invokes a sense of wonder and curiosity while at the same time evoking a sense of fear and caution, it upbeat and happy while being heavy and sad, the best example of this is in the track "forbidden friendship". I say this because this feels so heavy, I say you relied too much on the string instruments, they have a tendency to add weight if you are not careful, this made the music feel less free flying in general, a minor issue, but one that bothered me nonetheless. The low brass are bold and daring instruments, you should have used them far more, I'm a bit surprised at how you used the bagpipes to greater effect than the low brass, bagpipes in my opinion are the trickier instruments to utilize. I would note how the original used trombones quite frequently, and to great effect, you used them very little, rarely on their own, and if on their own they were recreating a melody that required them, I know your specialty is in string instruments, but this is still no reason not to believe in the power of the low brass, especially for this kind of music. When the low brass shines, it shines, not like a weak candle, but like a burning sun, when used correctly, the impact is undeniably powerful, no other section of instruments can have a harder impact than the low brass (Drums hit hard, but they only keep the pace, not the intensity, think of it as a hit and run when it comes to drums), they are bold instruments, and are held back when they are played cautiously, but do not let me saying this take away from your expert use of them, it was very well done, it lived up to expectations I had set, so it is not a complaint as much it is an interest in what you can do. This orchestration is intricately detailed, and after listening to it over and over those details show themselves, it is truly beautiful and an excellent work of art, and I do quite enjoy it, the passion is clearly there, and I love that, that alone makes it worthy of praise. I still prefer the style of the original, and I would not say this is a masterpiece, but it is an excellent, a superior piece, and I would say well worth the wait. Tempo did get a bit shaky at parts, some pieces lost some of their impact (mainly due to instrumentation), test drives percussion certainly snapped me back to attention, but the impact was rather weak for such a strong set up, but in the end, all of this is minor nitpicks, overall, 9/10, not much can be done to improve what's already here, I was actually hard pressed to find things to actually criticize, and I do love it when someone makes me work to find those things, it is all too common for modern artists to make it too easy to find problems, forcing you to try and look past them as a result, but not this time, I was pleased and enjoyed this, so good job on making an excellent piece, and I look forward to hearing what you put out in the future.
@thelegendaky4 жыл бұрын
Out of curiosity, what do you think of Marcus Warner's work?
@DaydreamsAllDay4 жыл бұрын
@@thelegendaky I love how gentle it is, how even in the most impactful moments it feels gentle, not in a bad way, I wish more artists could be more expressive in that regard. I love how he takes something that is plain and simple and expands it into something more, creating a sense of curiosity and wonder and invoking a desire to explore from seemingly simple melodies. There is a sense of nostalgia, but not for a moment is any of it bitter, but rather there is a distinct warmth to it, and instead of creating feelings of despair it invokes a feeling of hope for the future. I find his music to be very comforting, I can tell that he is indeed very passionate about his work, and it is indeed praiseworthy. I have not heard any of his works previous to today so these are my initial impressions I got from listening to 4 or 5 different songs of his. I think that he is an excellent musician, and I thank you for giving me his name.

I seem to have seen that there is going to be a fourth film, but it is not confirmed yet, a youtube channel is dedicated to showing information about HTTYD, it seems to me that the creator of the channel has friends who work at DreamWorks. I do not know if the information is true, but it gives a lot of information about possible projects.

I've always loved the movies. I grew up with them and even drew some How to Train Your Dragon inspired dragon concepts of what I believed you'd find in the state of Montana, my home, in early-middle school. This orchestration does this amazing franchise a great service! Doing well as always, Rush!

Probably the best Cinematic Franchise ever made. Not because of the quality of the story or that it made 3 great sequential movies. But by the fact that it Matured over the years alongside the audience, it was first presented to.

With a bunch of these here in one short video it made me realize just how many iconic melodies HTTYD has. I can tell the scenes they're from too. Kudos to John Powell! And you too!

I cant tell you how much I love this. I've grown up with httyd, started watching when I was 6 and the last movie came out right around when I was turning 13. It makes me really emotional because it's something I loved so much as a child and now the series has ended right as I became a teenager. As a teen getting older and being introduced to the stressors of adulthood(as well as a lot of mental health issues), I can feel my childhood slipping away and the end of this series kinda finalizes it. It's scary getting older and sometimes it can feel so hopeless, the thought that I'll never be a careless kid again. I still watch the movies but have a hard time making it through without crying lol. This video brings tears to my eyes but also brings me back to being a kid. Thankyou.

Holy shit... I was consumed by this orchestration from the first second, touched to the very soul... Rush, you got the vibe perfectly, this is amazing

@madiz42284 жыл бұрын
I do! I was kinda hoping for that. Probably to throw people off the scent of the actual plot.
@everettwhitaker78294 жыл бұрын
@@madiz4228 That could be the case. I personally lean more towards the plot changing and evolving over the course of development. Honestly, I'm unsure whether I'm glad that they didn't end up going through with it, or not. HTTYD 3's story already has difficulties standing alone outside of the context of being the finale to the trilogy, and I do wonder whether or not Drago's inclusion would have contributed to that feeling. On the other hand, I greatly prefer Drago as a villain over Grimmel, and it may have benefited the story to expand on an already established villain, rather than feeling the need to create a new one. Alas, I ramble
@alexisanderson89634 жыл бұрын
My best friend was convinced Drago was the villan again too. I was convinced he was dead.
@RisingSunfish4 жыл бұрын
@@madiz4228 I'm thinking it changed in development. The third film reeks of focus group testing and executive meddling (at least, that's an easier pill to swallow when it comes to wondering what the hell happened to the side characters), and Drago wasn't well-received, so rather than allowing room for him to be fleshed out they just tossed him aside for a new villain. It's implied Drago's fireproof cape is made of Night Fury skin, so it totally makes sense for him to have been the original "kill every last one of them" antagonist of the finale- and with the additional motivation of wanting personal revenge on Toothless and Hiccup for stealing away his armies. If there's one thing we should take away from the sequels of 2019, it's this: follow-through, follow-through, follow-through. Don't cave into audience impressions, because they change with the wind, very often don't actually know what they want, and almost never know better than seasoned storytellers.

Hard to believe the first film is a decade old already, I remember watching it in the cinema as a kid. Forgot about the third one and watched it towards the start of the year and damn does it hit different when you're older.

I cannot thank you enough for making this. This is how I found and got into your channel. This movie holds a deep sentimental value to me and thus much of its affeliated content. Yes I know John Powell already made this an orchestral masterpiece but that's no compromise on your own masterful rendition of a DW classic. You will never know the end product till you make its foundation.

Here at 8k likes and only 15 dislikes... Goes to show how many people were moved by the sheer gorgeous nature that is the How To Train Your Dragon franchise. It is truly a masterpiece of writing, lore, music, and animation, and will be remembered way past its prime. Its time came, it rose up and soared through our hearts with mighty courage, and left as gracefully but just as powerfully as it had come. The impact on each of the lives it has found its way to is immeasurable, and unforgettable. Congratulations on making a beautiful arrangement from the trilogy that lifted the hearts of the many, and took us on a journey that we never knew we needed.

I teared up at For the Dancing and the Dreaming.. This franchise and it's music means so bloody much to me. It wasn't really my childhood as I'm a '98 kid, but I still grew up with it. I have my issues with it (Drago really should have returned in The Hidden World), but I love it regardless. I'll always love HTTYD.
