I watched this too see what you were up to but didn't expect to see myself. Meeting you and everyone else in Colorado was definitely a highlight of the year for us! Here's to a great 2024 for you and your family!

Meeting up with you and Nita definitely made my 2023. You’ve always been great to chat with in the Facebook groups and on the forums. We’ve always kept it real, even when we had different opinions. You’ve been an awesome KZbin colleague and someone I really respect. Here’s to 2024! Cheers 🍻!

So sorry to hear that you've been sick! But I'm glad you're feeling better! I think more notable takeaways from 2023 were "Having a winch on your vehicle could help you self-recover from muddy ruts," and "Driving a vehicle with a low-range transfer case can keep you from damaging your vehicle (skid plate) due to having to use momentum, and it can help climb long hills without overheating your drivetrain, (and probably complete Fins N Things unassisted)" On the plus side, pushing the limits helps you find where those limits are, and can help keep you from getting in trouble again, possibly WORSE trouble, in the future. Great learning experiences. 🙂 Also, the snow chain videos were really, reallly good! I hope you have more awesome adventures in 2024.

Thanks! I’m feeling better now and so thankful 🙏 I’ve really been pushing to get a winch bumper made, and I’m waiting for the company that makes the 3.5” lift kit for the Honda platform. I want this solution to be available to the masses, so that’s why I haven’t gone to a custom fabricator to make one. As far as using momentum, I don’t have to use so much of it in the Honda. It’s geared 20.4:1 which is a Tacomas 4Lo 2nd gear (which is more like 19:1). But a T-case with the front / rear rotational lock would be helpful in sketchy situations, and yeah, more gearing is definitely more capable and safer. Plans for this year will be to capture the total solar eclipse in Texas and possibly make a return to Moab. Thanks for the best wishes and I hope you have a good 2024 as well.

2023 is the year that I, too, finally got to meet the one and only @bruceyyyyy in person. Anything beyond that was gravy, such as getting to hang out with JonDZ a couple times as well. 😄 Glad you're feeling better. Interesting upgrades to your rig...I like how you keep tweaking and tweaking to get it optimized for you. Happy New Year and here's to a healthy and happy 2024!

It was awesome hanging out with you too Donald, and I finally drove into Oregon last year! Watching your New Years video, I forgot to comment on you feeling sick and that I hope you feel better soon! Hope to see you in 2024 again! * and also, it’s nice to reflect on how I met you and @bruceyyyyy from the Subaru community and we are all still actively connected, despite all driving different brand vehicles.

I'm so glad you are feeling better. No, seriously bro, I feel like we have a symbiotic bond, and if you're sick, I'm sick. If you go hiking and get into shape, I feel physically stronger. Be well man!

What's that name and model of your clamshell tent?
@JonDZ_Adventuring
@JonDZ_Adventuring 8 ай бұрын
Yes, that tent is the Centori Outdoors “Outdoorsman XL PLUS”. On thing to point out that it’s pretty wide at 57”, which is a decent match for a midsized Hondas wide roof. There’s been a lot of advancement in Roof Top technology. I highly recommend the tents with 1.) storage capacity 2.) full frame.

Hey Jon, have you seen the new driving sports tv review of the 2024? The PP got stuck on the easiest course lol as a PP owner myself id say that it was pretty embarrassing. Hoping to see your insight on what happened.

I don’t need to watch Ryan and Subaru sports TV. His first review of the passport and it got up the cross cut hill where no other AWD was able to get up. That’s back when he was an unbiased car reviewer. He tested a Mercedes G wagon and it needed to be triple locked to get up. Then Ryan was apparently “bought” by Subaru. He started doing reviews comparing an outback wilderness to a 4Runner, a Jeep Compass Trailhawk to a Forester wilderness, a Passport to an Outback wilderness and he made the Subarus always win. Ryan and Subaru Sports TV is not a legitimate car review channel. Just watch all the other off-road related car review channels and you’ll see that driving sports TV always has a different result on vehicles that compete with Subaru. Watch Sarah n Tuned, TFL, and Edmunds. Driving sports TV is “thee only channel” that will have have different results.

So, I went and checked out the video, here’s my input (comment). Someone mentioned this video to me and as someone that owns a 2019 Honda Passport with 139K on the odometer, and has driven with many other ZF9 equipped Passport/Pilot/Ridgeline drivers, it appears you have a defective Honda. We’ve never seen this issue on the trail, and prior to this review, you haven’t seen it either. Remember your first review, you took the Passport on the crosscut hill and you pushed the passport hard to get up it. Prior to, no other AWD was able to get up that obstacle, and in your G-wagon review it had to be triple locked to crawl up (although I’m sure if you used more momentum, it would have made it in standard 4WD with traction control). So, I do have a friend that had his Passport give a “transmission problem” warning while he was driving cross country. He took it into a Honda dealership and he was told that his ZF9 transmission was “OVERFILLED”. There’s a bleed valve on the ZF9, and after removing the excess fluid, the vehicle was operational again. From all the testing you’ve done on this platform, you know it was capable of getting through this. It appears that you didn’t get the “AWD system HOT” warning, which is just a rotational sensor and not an actual heat sensor. That points to a defective transmission. Really unfortunate Honda would provide you with a vehicle in that condition.

If you were to ever get a “TRANSMISSION PROBLEM” warning, something is WRONG! It’s not a capability issue.

@@JonDZ_Adventuring wow thanks for your input. I may have not much experience in these driving conditions. But, I do think your observation is spot on. The PP he was driving seemed to have a faulty AWD system. Wheels seemed like they were disabled or something. I knew to ask the right person about this. Thanks Jon!
@JonDZ_Adventuring
@JonDZ_Adventuring 8 ай бұрын
@sir_shit_talk_alot my comment was a little harsh without watching the video first. He mentioned that he just had good things to say about the Passport until the issue at the end of the video. There are initial issues that people have, but many people don’t have the warning after an overfilled transmission is leveled out, or faulty wires are fixed.
