Had to think about a quote from the loading screen of a Total War game. From some general from ancient Rome probably: „An enemy who knows what you are capable of, is not beaten easily.“ I guess more often than not evaluating correctly is a game changer. A point from a German Wing Chun KZbinr, who also puts focus on self defence, came to my mind too: if there is tension coming up, don’t tell the guy in front of you what your martial arts background is. He will possibly be able to evaluate what your most dangerous range is and what type of strategies and attacks he might need to expect…

This is one big reason why those amateurs won ufc 1. Coz nobody in america had any idea what is submission wrestling. LoL. Especially in gi. They all just half-willingly went to the clinch and then to the ground.

this is great. i'm not a big guy but i've never shied away from a roll, no matter their size or skill, unless i knew from experience that the guy is dangerous. had to stop that now though coz i'm gettin old and a bit scared

The most common mistake young wrestlers make is that they don't have patience. They feel like they should shoot for the legs coz that's what is expected of "wrestling". And they often get sprawled on, coz it's so easy to see their timing from miles away. Like clockwork. As a wrestler, once you realize you're not forced to do anything, and you can just sit back to pick & choose your entries, your wrestling level jumps up 3 levels.

I got injured shooting under some fat guy. he front headlock threw me and blew something in my neck. when wrestling bigger guys never ever get underneath them. Always have your head up too or be ready to bail when they do the fat man sprawl/fall

Reminds me of my training partner. He was around 125 kg while I was around 80 kg. I could take him down with upper body clinch and trips. Never wanted him to sprawl on me. It doesn't feel good. Lol. Couldn't even breathe during BJJ rounds with him on top and his chest in contact with mine. Guy could literally lift me when I had him in a mounted crucifix. But used to be highly rewarding to roll with him.

Surprised you could take down a bigger guy with upper body, I find the upper body strength differential too high in upper body clinch vs big guys, feel like they can move me around and win the gripfights way easier. Only trips I can hit regularly on big guys are inside trip and sasae, find they usually dont move enough/too heavy to make light for stuff like de ashi. Also my low single isnt great but feel like its a trap against big guys, it seems like it will work if you catch the head on knee perfectly but in practice theres too much play, low doubles yes low singles no imo

I weigh about 150lbs and I'd say about 90% of my training partners are heavier than me. Only one of I know who has a wrestling background though (UK so we don't wrestle in school). I still get squished or guillotined a lot when I shoot for the legs, but no doubt my technique needs a lot of work.

There's something really messy about your video titles and thumbnails. I wanted to watch something from you but couldn't find anything that interested me. (Sure it could be a me problem but I just wanted to let you know as your viewership is down)

Yeah it’s totally down. I’ve been real busy with the gym, mma, Jiu-Jitsu and high school/youth wrestling. I haven’t been able to put in the time and focus into creating good content.
