You can see the Lenticular clouds as they taxi to the runway. You know it is going to be rough. Lenticular clouds are the strongest, most dangerous turbulence associated with a mountain wave is on the lee side of the mountain in and under rotor clouds

Dangerous? As in dangerous to fly in?
@PilotAndyEDDL10 ай бұрын
@@MacrossJetProbably not a pilot because then he would have said it was convective turbulence due to a recent series of thunderstorms raging through the area. No lenticular clouds to be seen at all. What you are seeing in this video is thunderstorm leftovers. Check cloud top images from this date, there was a rather strong weather system coming in from the west coast. By the way, this video shows continuous light to occasional moderate chop. According to my experience, lee waves cause turbulence and not chop.

Good thing to remember, turbulence alone has never once downed a plane. Other weather phenomena such a microburst yes, but pilots have detection systems to avoid storms that could contain those. Planes are made with withstand many many times the amount of turbulence you’ll ever see in normal flight, such as in this video. It can be uncomfortable I know, and I have family who’s absolutely terrified of it. But hopefully knowing it literally isn’t possible for turbulence to cause a major issue will help! Also, just think about the planes that fly right into the eye of hurricane and are fine. Try not to fear it if at all possible!
@utubewillyman10 ай бұрын
@@UKPtrk Yeah, but the turbulence is often a harbinger of some really bad weather systems ahead. And I've seen enough stories about pilots who didn't do well in bad weather, like that Air France flight over the Atlantic.

love the 737, hate turbulence. I know they have de-icing capability aboard aircraft, where they flip a switch and de-ice the leading edge of the wings. Question: why don't the flight crew turn on the de-turbulence switch and smooth out the ride? You would think something as modern as the 737-MAX would have that option.

I always hate that point where you're flying through the clouds. After hundreds of a flights as a passenger (between Winnipeg and Vancouver) I noticed that, for some reason, the descents into Vancouver tend to be rough when going directly over Hope and you're flying between mountain ranges. They tend to be easier though when going above the mountains just north of the area.
