Noah Gervais, YFS, Joseph anderson, civvie, and more, AND NOW JOSH? Long live long form. Also, i don't have em in the background. I watch em. ALL of them. If i fall asleep, i go back to wherever i was up to and continue. It's akin to dedicating to a good book in my eyes. If you have an attention span and are interested in the topic in question, there's no reason you shouldn't watch. It's a gift. I've always looked for long form content and there's always been something there waiting. It's become more popular of late and my subcriptions are almost exclusively made up of those that make this style of video. Adding you to that genre is the cherry on top, if it happens to last. Here's to hoping.

One bonus to split up videos is it makes navigating through it much easier. The longer the video, the less useful the progress bar is for getting to a particular section. That said, if there's chapters and chapter markers and clear spots for taking a break and resuming, then that should be fine.

Possibly just a confirmation of your points. I typically listen to your videos during my warhammer painting session. And to be fair, the humor and the smooth flow of the storytelling are the things that keep me in. To the point that I have no doubt that I will continue watching a long format video if I interrupt my painting sessions earlier. Also, it's quite nice when you filter your analysis through the optics of theatre. I mean, storytelling is storytelling no matter the medium, but theatre has been around long enough to provide an extensive analysis framework.

6:50 I've noticed this and it's actually a bit of a problem for my usual KZbin consumption strategy of listening while working. KZbinr references the visuals of a thing while not actually describing it so I have to either miss out on that part of the video or stop working to get a visual, I eventually stop watching the video and either forget to finish or wait until I get home

Usually this means I only re-listen to videos I've already watched, but I've found long play streams are quite good to fill the background. Almost nostalgic, they remind me of when I used to play ffxi on my computer while my brother played Playstation on the other side of the room. But usually funnier. Just found the replays channel today and finished new Vegas pt 1, perfect work video.

I tend to watch/listen to KZbin videos on my second monitor when I play certain genres of games like ARPGs, Grand Strategy titles, or MMOs but I can't imagine actually trying to watch a show while also playing a game. That's insane to me. If I sit down to watch a show, my attention is fully on the show and I expect it to entertain me. With maybe the exception of things like cooking and game shows, I can't see a show that's deliberately designed to be background noise actually being good.

I am not ADHDed enough yet to only watch short videos (getting there, though), so I am looking forward to seeing long ones. I might not pay attention all the time (ADS got diagnosed, told ya I am getting there), but I enjoy long videos. They don't have to be background oriented - I might pay full attention. Just not all the time. I totally agree on the audio part, though. Even if I concentrate on something different the sound will be there and if it's unpleasant I will notice, eg I will be interrupted. I am especially sensitive to certain noises, so sound quality is really the most important thing. Whether I watch it in the background or not.

I think your "Was it any good" series is kind of best around the 2h hour mark (for me at least). To be clear I almost always watch those videos with intent and focus - fullscreen, no things on a seconds monitor, no phone - because what is happening on the screen is always in context of what you are saying and I either want to relive the parts I can remember from when I played it myself or I wanna see what the game looks like when it's something I never played. Personally i think i would go as far as 3h of watching those videos in one sitting - 1h more than that somehow starts to seems like an unholy amount of time commitment without doing anything else. :)

As somebody who "plays" Runescape (ex-comp, mostly just messing around now), I'm pretty excited for this. Hopeful that every little niche thing about the UI gets pointed out, including the weird things like * UI sub-tabs ("Melee" having an attack/strength subtab, "Defensive" constitution/defence, "Magic" spells/abilities/teleports/skilling, and necromancy abilities/incantations and how every indificual sub-tab can be dragged out of their "grouped" window, but nothing can be dragged in) * Dragging worn/inventory items (Inventory slots appearing to be a slightly wide rectangle but having a 1:1 yellow square when you drag an item over them, worn equipment can be directly dropped (this can lead to silly, insignificant bugs like collecting Oo'glog mud masks or getting wrong text on Great Orb Project equipment) * The obnoxity of trying to make a pixel-perfect interface when the interface is effectively shrunk 13px in edit mode because UI headers are force-enabled in edit mode * "Abilities" not being the default damage value displayed when looking at the Hero → Loadout tab * The general abundance of tab nesting

Two things: Spiffing Brit has a video explaining how multi-hour-long videos outperform shorter videos with significantly higher engagement. There is likely no major risk in doing this, and I completely support this test for all the usual reasons. Second, I will always champion the objective superiority of seriffed fonts. Here's why: I vs l. That's it, that's the whole reason why. Just put the serifs on "capital i" and sans-serif fonts will be fine.
