Going from short to tall is a nice strategy. Bravo on replacing lawn in one fell swoop

I have a mid century house and so this video is so helpful to me. It gives me ideas to have cleaner lines and a more orderly look closer to the house. But in the furthest corner (corner lot) I'm going full-on prairie vibes, haha.

Midcentury homes were designed to be a part of nature actually. That’s the whole point. Midcentury architectural minimalism & things like sliding glass doors was meant to bring NATURE indoors - or to blur the lane between the built environment & NATURE. Nature doesn’t tend to be minimalist or to grow in neat lines. Midcentury landscape designers were NOT minimalist, nor used lines. But tried to replicate nature. Or at least create a naturalistic feel. Though unfortunately, they also tended to do so with tons of non-native plants. The better, smarter, ones did incorporate natives. And the native movement has its roots in Midcentury landscapes.

I love what you're doing. I saw on one of your videos that you said to find your ecoregion. I'm having trouble narrowing that down. How do I search by zip code?

It’s a contemporary thing to “interpret” mid century landscape as minimalist. Actually, the whole idea behind Midcentury homes was to fit into actual nature, which isn’t usually minimalist - lol. Unless it’s a desert environment. Contemporary minimalist garden design isn’t actually anything Midcentury landscape designers would have approved of.

Which is NOT a critique of your design, which I love. If you were in Florida, I’d even hire you. It’s just to point out that landscape minimalism is a contemporary thing. And, if it’s promoted as a Midcentury aesthetic, it’s just an incorrect interpretation of the goals of Midcentury architecture.
