Thank you, this is the best review of the Osprey Velocity back pack on KZbin in my opinion, real world usage with a thorough overview, excellent work and helped make my decision to purchase one 👍🏼

These stretchy pockets are what intrigued me. I'm able to fit my Haven Tent hammock and Grayl Geopress in the front pocket, pad and Helinox Zero in the side pockets, tarp rolled up in the bottom straps, swagman roll or light quilt in the bag with my food and other gear. All in all around 20lbs. If they make a 40L, I'm going to be one of the first to buy it.

Great review. In what scenarios would you recommend the original talon/tempest over the velocity? would the wired frame be better for heavier loads?
@tauntonleisure8 ай бұрын
If you were intending to carry a heavier load then the Talon or Tempest maybe a better option

Thank you for the review, I'm looking to buy the Velocity 20 dor day hiking or light packing 2/3 days hikes and I was wondering if it was as easy to fit a tent in the 20 L version as in the 30 L one ?

Hi Taunton Leisure, I walked 20-30km a day for 3 weeks straight with the Talon 44l backpack with about 10kg in it (11-12kg including bag) however, each day at some point it would start to feel like it carved into my shoulders. The chest buckle and the hip belt could alleviate some of the pain but only for some time so I had to go from tightening to tightening further, then loosening and combining these adjustments to make it through each day. When I saw Osprey released this new version, it was my hope that the wide shoulder straps would alleviate the pressure on the shoulders but ironically it seems that you Sir and other people in the comment section suggest the old Talon for carrying heavier loads - maybe because it has an internal frame and back padding. That's a little disappointing though because it is broadly known that the Talon 44l has an issue with shoulder pain from the straps when reaching the 10kg mark. What is Osprey doing to tackle this issue? It makes sense that a broader surface of the shoulder straps distributes the load better onto shoulders and chest but it seems this precise area where this version excels is also where it falls flat. Why couldn't a framed Osprey backpack have these broader shoulder straps? Why can't this version be framed? Why couldn't the broader shoulder straps simultaneously be more cushioned?
@tauntonleisure6 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment. I'm sorry to hear that you've struggled with your Talon 44L! I'll do my best to address your concerns. Regarding the Talon Velocity, this pack was specifically designed for fast and light activities. Adding a frame to the Velocity would compromise its intended use by making it less comfortable for running and fast-paced activities. The wider shoulder straps on the Velocity are a new design for Osprey, and they haven't yet had the opportunity to apply them to other packs in their range. However, this style of harness is expected to be adapted to other packs in the near future, and will be tailored to fit the load ranges of those packs. As for cushioning, the lack of additional foam is intentional to keep the pack breathable and comfortable for running or fast movement. When Osprey releases hiking or long-distance trekking packs with a similar harness system, they will likely include more cushioning to accommodate the desire to carry more weight. Regarding the discomfort you experienced with the Talon 44, carrying 11-12kg puts you at the upper limit of this pack's load range. Given the impressive distances you were covering, this discomfort may be a result of the pack being pushed to its limits over extended periods. Without seeing how the pack was fitted, it’s difficult to determine a definitive cause for the issue. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to reach out.

Do they make a 40 L?. That is the ideal size for multi days. Also they need to put more padding over the shoulder area. This is a weak point and i notice many people bring it up.
@tauntonleisure6 ай бұрын
I spoke to Osprey a few days ago and there is discussion about a 40l option but not in the near future. I've not noticed much of an issue so far with the padding, I recently did a 3 day hike out of it and found it really comfortable. I would imagine that this would need to be looked at in a 40l version due to the potential weight increases

Would you recommend Tempest or Tempest Volicity (30) for a Camino trek? 20km+/day for 5 weeks? Just not sure which would be more supportive of a 12-15lb load for long walks? And not sure of the frameless option but liking those front straps. Any advice is appreciated.
@tauntonleisureАй бұрын
Thanks for your comment! If you’re keeping your pack weight down and 30L gives you enough space, the Talon Velocity could be a great choice for the Camino. As we mentioned in the video, it's comfortable for multi-day use with a medium load. If you plan on carrying more weight, a rigid frame would definitely help with load transfer to your hips-in that case, the Talon 40 could be worth considering. Based on what you've shared, the Velocity seems suitable, but I recommend trying it on in-store. We can even add some weight to simulate a realistic feel!

Thanks for the great review. Can we put skis on the bags ? Maybe using the side straps ?
@tauntonleisure8 ай бұрын
Thank you, we are so glad you liked the video! To our knowledge it is not specifically designed to carry skis comfortably. However, due to the design of the side straps it maybe possible to attach them if needed.

I've purchased it however I'm concerned about the top lid. Did you experience any water ingress from the elements and also if the pack is not fully loaded did the lid flap around. Personally think they should have borrowed Montane's Trailblazer Brain. Thanks in advance for any input. Cheers
@tauntonleisure3 ай бұрын
That's awesome! It’s a fantastic pack. However, it’s not fully waterproof, so even if the lid keeps out every drop, water will eventually seep through. We recommend using dry bags for your gear inside. The closure mechanism is well-designed and stayed secure without flapping during our testing.

For a, let's say heavy 7 days hike, which one would fit better? Would the lightness of the tempest prevail over the comfort of the talon?
@tauntonleisure8 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment. The Talon is the men's version and the Tempest is the women's version. Other than a few differences in fit they are the same pack
