I love my Unna for solo camping. Take my Keron 3GT when the Mrs is coming along. I unclip the inner tent when cooking, gives me plenty of room. Never tried mine in extreme conditions, getting to old for that kind of camping. The ease of pitching is a big plus for me. Thanx for sharing!

For another 70g or so you could have the Mythic Ultra 180 which I have used comfortably down to -3'C on my home made SS2 (Side Sleeper Mat Mk2) 7mm thick folding CCF mat that is insanely warm for it's thickness. I tested it with a thermal camera on one side whilst blasting it with a hair dryer on full heat on the other side and could not detect any heat leaking through it, apart from a tiny amount where the various folds are. It weighs just 150g and packs into a cube about 150mm square, or you can reconfigure how you pack it to make it longer and narrower...So my 3 season sleep system is under 600g! I've just bought the Mythic Ultra 360 for really cold winter camping and I am considering pairing it up with Rab Ultrasphere 4.5. I currently use a lightweight hot tent and stove for winter camping (the tent is about 1.7kg and the stove is 820g with a 7.5 foot stovepipe/chimney.) but once the stove burns out during the night and the temperature drops that is when the 360 and the Ultrasphere should be worth their weight in gold. I am also considering using an OMM Core sleeping bag Liner...It might make the 180 as warm as the 360 for a lot less money...I will compare the two and let you know.

how is the stitching no the micro puff and das light compared to the nano puff (and compared to the Rab cirrus jackets)? I had a nano puff but was unsatisfied with the durability of the stitching - especially around the arms it kept going loose within months of purchase.. :(

Great comparison, thanks! I'm torn between the Cirrus Alpine & Cirrus Ultra. Will replace my old down jacket and old synthetic jacket (Nano Puff) for the combination of everyday use, commuting (dry and damp conditions), walks/hikes (non technical light intensity) and last but not least to bring along my bikepack adventures. Living in the Netherlands so it's temp range is somewhere between 12 and -4 C. Any advice on which jacket would be the best pick? I'm leaning towards the Ultra because of better regulating abilities and 2 way zipper which is super helpful on the bike. Cheers!

. Ribelle tech is garbage is gets wet instantly (I’ve tried 3 different pair all the same and also 1 of each version all the same) and they stay wet and don’t dry for days. In cold this is unacceptable, Bdry/Hdry whatever they’re calling it (renamed for copyright issues) is total garbage. Stick w gore Tex if you want that. The 5:07 se are a total fail. Also the lace retention mechanism is a tiny flimsy little plastic thing that pops out constantly and is so small it can get easily lost. Doesn’t hold tension at all. The newer version also uses stretchy laces that make tension even worse and less reliable. The lace cover pops open constantly and is useless and makes using a proper gaiter impossible as well. They are silly fashion accessories only. Not to mention offering zero ankle supprt whatsoever by design. But the wetting issue is the most serious by far and not drying out. Though the lacing tensioner is also a major fail. Worst design ever and I really wanted to like it I liked the concept but it’s a total fail.

I purchased a Race S as was impressed by all the hype it has been given and the fact they were made in Finland. Not the case my one seems to be made in China and the Heart rate sensor is way off, over 200bpm when doing my regular run or swim for a 49 year old bloke! 😮 I have tred to contact Suunto so hope they can sort it out. Maybe just a bad sensor? Everything else is awesome about this watch so i hope they can resolve. 🤞

Nice review. My experience with the All Season matches your thoughts. It's a really comfortable mat (mine is long wide, I'm 6'3"/190cm) and very quiet. The All Season is great for half-year use and overkill for summer unless camping on snow, but it doesn't work for me below freezing temps. A couple of mornings with ice floating in the water bottles followed nights where I tossed and turned to avoid the cold coming through the mat. A few nights of backyard testing around 25F/-4C was uncomfortable after 3-4 hours. These tests alternated using a 15F and 5F bags, neither could stop the cold coming up from the ground and were perfectly warm on top, hence the rotisserie action for the night. I'm moving to an EC now for winter snow camping, simply trying to avoid packing more insulation mat layers with added weight and fussing around as I've done in the past. I generally sleep warm with minimal covers compared with most others I've camped with over 60 years, but YMMV (or I might be getting colder with age).

any thoughts on whether need a conventional mat or something underneath to stop punctures, which I understand the Ultrasphere is particularly prone to ?
@tauntonleisure
@tauntonleisure 5 күн бұрын
A few of our staff have been using the Ultrasphere since its release and haven’t experienced any issues with it. If you’re camping on terrain where there’s potential for punctures - for example, gorse on Dartmoor can sometimes penetrate tent floors - it might be worth using a conventional mat underneath as an extra layer of protection.

Very informative video, would you say there is any warmth difference between the Cirrus and the Ultra? Does the different insulation offer any more warmth, or just compression? Thanks in advance.
@tauntonleisure
@tauntonleisure 6 күн бұрын
We’re so glad you liked it-thank you for the kind words! 😊 The Cirrus Ultra is indeed warmer than the standard Cirrus, thanks to a bit of extra insulation (Cirrus: 232g vs. Cirrus Ultra: 247g) and the addition of Rab’s innovative TILT liner, which helps reduce heat loss for better performance in colder conditions. ❄️ Let us know if you have any other questions!

@@tauntonleisure That's very helpful, thank you. One other question which is a doozy - how would you say the Ultra compares in warmth (under the same conditions) to a RAB Microlight which has a 700 FP down? I expect the Microlight to be warmer, but I'm wondering by how much (I have a Microlight so I can use it as a comparator). I know this is a tricky question, but a general opinion would be great. Thanks again!

What temperature is this good for and is it good for city use?
@tauntonleisure
@tauntonleisure 6 күн бұрын
This jacket is designed with lightweight fabrics, so it might not withstand everyday wear and tear as well as heavier options. That said, it’s an excellent choice if you’re looking for something versatile for outdoor adventures and occasional city use. As the lightest in the Mythic range, it’s suited to temperatures around 5 to 0°C without a fleece layer. If you need something warmer for sub-zero conditions, the Rab Mythic Alpine could be worth considering. I hope this helps! Let us know if you have any other questions.

How about between rab ascent down jacket and rab axion pro comparison, which one is warmer and more durable ? Thanks
@tauntonleisure
@tauntonleisure 9 күн бұрын
Hi, thank you for your comment! The Axion Pro has unfortunately been discontinued since this video was made. However, the closest alternative in Rab’s current range would be the Ascent Down Jacket, which shares a similar style and features. The Axion Pro has been replaced by the Glaceon Pro, so if you’re considering options, here’s a quick comparison between the Ascent and Glaceon: Ascent Down Jacket: More durable with a 40D outer fabric. Includes a fleece-lined collar for extra comfort. Weighs slightly more at 739g. Glaceon Pro: Lighter weight at 594g. Features a 20D outer fabric, making it less robust but more packable. If you prioritise durability and comfort, the Ascent would be a great choice. For those who value weight savings and a modern design, the Glaceon Pro is an excellent option. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

@tauntonleisure Thanks very much for the explanation. Now I understand more clearly between the two options. Axion pro still available thru on line sales in my country , which I think is an old stocks as it is already discontinued and being replaced by Glaceon pro. Ascent down jacket is a bit cost more than axion pro and now I understand why. Once again, thanks again and really appreciate for the explanation.

what sort of wind speeds can this handle, any idea?
@tauntonleisure
@tauntonleisure 9 күн бұрын
It's difficult to provide a definitive answer, as Vango does not publish wind speed test results, and we have not conducted extensive tests ourselves. That said, the tent should perform well in winds up to 25 mph and potentially beyond. Its stability will largely depend on how securely it is pitched and the nature of the ground it's set up on.

The Paramo Torres Smock is better for wet, cold, or windy conditions, offering lightweight warmth, quick drying, and weather resistance-perfect for outdoor activities. Wool jackets are durable, breathable, and eco-friendly but heavier, slower to dry, and less weatherproof. For demanding conditions, go with the Torres Smock; for casual, dry-weather use, wool is a great alternative.

While it's true that RAB has shifted production to China for some of their gear, it's important to note that they still maintain high-quality standards and rigorous testing for their products. The factories where their gear is made are also thoroughly checked to ensure they meet fair labor practices and safe working conditions. Many reputable brands manufacture in China while ensuring their products meet the same performance and durability expectations.

China actually has some advantageous factories technologically speaking.

Or just change it, cheap as chips. Curious how does this work for large gas cylinders. Unbelievable
@tauntonleisure
@tauntonleisure 16 күн бұрын
While it's true that just swapping out small gas canisters is an easy solution, the method in the video provides a useful way to gauge how much gas is left without needing to replace it unnecessarily. As for large cylinders, the technique doesn't quite apply in the same way due to their size and weight, but it's still an interesting way to make sure you're not running out unexpectedly!

She tells about 20D for the bikepack version, I checked the NX2 and the floor is 30D indeed. Above that the inner tent is 10D for the bikepack and 20D for the NX2. The NX2 is sturdier. The mesh in the roof and sidewalls are the opposite at the 2 tents, which is strange IMO. Why would you use mesh on top because condensation on inside of the outer tent drips on top of it. A pro on the NX2 were the vent openings at head and feet, they disappeared on the bikepack and replaced with door openings where anyone can look through at night. I went for the NX2 again.
