My playthroughs usually devolved into picking flowers across the countryside for hours, getting killed by a mountain lion, realizing I hadn't saved in ages, quitting for the night, and forgetting the game exists. The one time I got anywhere was on console and I'd rather play it on PC now. So I'm finally trying again, for really-really-real this time. Vanilla, because 9 times out of 10 if someone's looking for a bug workaround in a Bethesda game, the problem boils down to "oh btw I have mods." Plus, I haven't played vanilla properly anyways so... 26 hours in and going strong-- hold that thought, I see a flower! :D

Man 2006... I was like 9 and my parents gifted me a brand new PS3 and the optional games was some random game and Oblivion. Didn't vibe with the random game, didn't much vibe with Oblivion either. My parents didn't know what I liked which were games like Street Fighter etc so they used to choose whichever had the most interesting cover. So I just went ahead and started on Oblivion, didn't understand anything, never played an RPG before in my life. Thought that the whole game was about this weird dungeon place and it took me like 2 days to figure it out (and it was really dark so my scared ass would play in like 10 minute increments.) Then I remember that moment, not knowing wtf just happened to this emperor guy, killed some rats and shit, and the door and the game prompts me if I want to change my character. Im good. Step out the door, expecting some other kind of dungeoun, and there it was. Cyrodill. Wow, the nostalgia man. I remember getting a horse somehow, sleeping in a tavern, buying food, Imperial City. The obsessed fan guy. Becoming the fucking thief God (the guy with the mask shit). I remember vividly the questline when you enter a painting and the entire scenery is a fucking painting. What game devs would ever go through such a creative effort like that again. I loved this game to death. Idk if I put more hours into this or in Skyrim, maybe Oblivion. Oblivion was the better game enviroment wise that's for sure.
