As a writer and editor, I can firmly say that the Plaintiff's book was a mess. The way she speaks, saying she edited it herself and that she can't figure out computers... no. Lord, no. Write a manuscript and give it to your friends rather than think it's going to sell. Editors are EXTREMELY underpaid because of people like this. We fix things, and the writer says, "I could've done that..." No. You couldn't. That's why we fixed it.

I work in printing and a lot of it also is because of dumbass people who demand their shit be perfect, whether it be pictures, videos, flyers and yes, even books. When they want us to do shit like editing and then get pissed off we want to get PAID for doing what they can't. "Why? you just spend 5 minutes to fix it, how could it be worth an editing fee?" "Because you didn't know how to do it." "Why would you charge us to design a brochure for us?" "Because you didn't know how to do it and that takes time" And then my god all the whole rewrites? Yeah so now it's a 2 drafts and done, if you can't tell us what you want after that, we keep the money, you gtfo. And the editing isn't even my job. I just know how to do it. We're not supposed to make files, we're supposed to PRINT print ready files Ridiculous the entitlement from the world's imbeciles who think them not knowing how to do shit entitles them to MY expertise for free. And this isn't even going over the phone calls trying to get me to fix their printers for free.

According to one comment, he was killed over the pettiest thing. It was a young lady’s birthday, and they were having a water fight. Whether was poured in the son, and then son threw Gatorade on the young lady, the young lady hit her boyfriend involved. The boyfriend should up at the plantiff’s house asking for her son so they can fight, the plantiff told the boyfriend her son was too tired. The son was spotted at the same place the water fight took place and the boyfriend and someone else approached him and shot him

According to news articles, a woman’s birthday party led to a water fight. The woman splashed the plaintiffs son with water by accident, and he retaliated by splashing GATORADE on the woman. The woman told her boyfriend and the and next day, her boyfriend knocked on the plaintiffs door asking for her son to come down and fight the boyfriend. The plaintiff says "he’s too tired". However later that day at 1pm, the plaintiffs son was sitting in the same area the water fight happened, two men ran up to him and shot him to death.

Self publishing is a difficult undertaking. People think oh yeah I can churn out a story and press publish and make money but that couldn’t be further from the truth. You have to wear all the hats-editor, marketer, cover design-or else bankroll people to do it for you. And that takes a heck load of research. The problem here is that the plaintiff didn’t do that research. She doesn’t even have a basic understanding of how to make a contract with someone. She handed over a deeply emotional project to another person and hoped everything would turn out okay.

I've been publishing with KDP since 2016, and yes, it is a huge undertaking in order to provide a quality product. There are a lot of steps involved. @@Lilyrose23 yup. And iirc from watching a few videos on youtube, the amazon printing tells you how much it costs to print the book, calculating physical materials and Amazon's fee. It allows you to see how much you make from each book sold. Unless she's using uber premium materials (doubtful given the copy she held up in the video), but could probably reduce the size of the book to a more standard novel size and reduce costs of printing. But at those prices, she's only gonna sell to friends and family.

My deepest condolences to the plaintiff. Her pain is one no parent should ever have to endure. The case: topic of the book aside, the plaintiff must accept her mistakes throughout the editing and publishing process. If she was still overwhelmed and dealing with her grief, publishing the book should have been paused until her head was a bit clearer. Grieving cannot be an excuse for not proofreading after the EDITOR has made corrections and/or changes. I can understand her pain and anger being misdirected towards the defendant in the moment. However, at some point, she must take accountability for rushing the book during this very fragile time in her life. The defendant fulfilled her part and shouldn't have been dragged to court. I don't know what the plaintiff said in her voicemails, but I do hope the defendant learned a lesson in professionalism and empathy. Some things are not worth responding to and fueling the flame. Best of luck to both parties.

I was an electronics technician in the Navy who had a propensity of blowing stuff up. This earned me the unflattering nickname of "Sparky the E.T." So take some advice from old Sparky: Even if you know that the circuit breaker is disabled always measure the voltage with a voltmeter before proceeding. I'm a freelance writer/editor. It sounds like the defendant was hired to do formatting and just getting it onto Amazon. Copyediting is much more labour/time intensive, especially if there are a lot of grammatical issues. It sounds like the defendant went way beyond what she was paid for. When copyediting, I ask the author a number of questions regarding usages, and every single change I make has to be approved by the author, a process made relatively simple by "track changes".

This case is an example of Milian being emotional and allowing her emotions to determine the issue. The defendant went beyond what was required of her. It’s irrational sometimes how Milian reasons. She is making the defendant help the plaintiff more simply as a favor to her!! Professional editors would have charged the plaintiff a lot more and stopped communicating once their responsibilities were fulfilled. Milian always preaches about the court’s responsibility to make people whole. Yet, she routinely avoids this by not compensating people for their time.

The defendant did everything professionally necessary to settle the issue outside of court. I’m only expressing frustration at how Milian used her position to coerce someone to do more work than required outside of court. Milian admitted this a few times. The defendant is now doing extra work outside of court for which she isn’t getting paid because the plaintiff is inept. The fair thing to do is to have the plaintiff pay someone else an hourly wage to finish correcting her errors. In this case, Milian is being emotional. She’s employing non-legal ethics within the court to produce actions outside of court that create further unfairness, and avoid making the defendant whole. It’s manipulating a loophole.

I think the plaintiff is a thug. When the judge asked about arrest in the sons case she was sketchy and knows it's wasn't just a petty argument... The defendant went above and beyond. She edited a book without compensation. Now the judge has the nerve to get her to do more work at court. I think not. I would have told her she can fix it by going through the prompts or hiring another professional. But I'm petty 😂

I wrote a paper when working on my last degree on Amazon and how it enabled anyone with a bad book to get it in print. A little unfair as some are pretty good. Putting it initially into your own KDP account is a bit odd. Better to help them set up an account and avoid all these problems. Edit: the book is live, I just found it. ISBN is created by Amazon. It's not really that hard.

I'm sorry for the loss of her son. However, I wish she would focus on the police and/or lawyers to get the person who killed her child instead of profiting from her son's death. Then, at least, the book would have some form of finality/conclusion to the story. I know some people would say she may be scared to state who it was that murdered her son, etc. However, the problem with that thinking is that she is on the People's Court, a nationally syndicated show where people will see this, and she published a book on Amazon, where names and/or fictional names are probably mentioned.

My older cousin doesn't know how to use a computer, didn't put his money in a bank, doesn't know how to use credit/debit cards or a cell phone. He did this by choice too thinking he could go through life ignoring the world turning and using cash for everything. He's 60. Now he's forced to use cell phones and bank cards in order to get paid and expects everyone to help him and we're all tired of his BS and don't bother helping anymore.

I kept waiting for Judge Milian to tell the plaintiff to STOP SMACKING THE PODIUM. Yeesh, that was annoying. I mean, feel for the woman. Losing a child is something no parent should ever have to experience. But yeah... I can see where her book would have been a trainwreck that would need a massive rewrite. I agree with others here that the defendent should have been paid for her time in court, since she had to fix the ISBN number in the manuscript, which means she had to open and edit the document again... which should be compensable.

No one should have gotten any monies. JM asked the defendant to help the woman yet again with the computer. It is only fair that she get compensated for spending extra time doing a "favor". The $25 should not have been awarded to the plaintiff; it is a wash. Once again, the plaintiff received preferential treatment because she has a hispanic heritage. The defendant was very professional. It's a shame that her time was wasted.

Definitely feel bad for the plaintiff but the defendant did a lot of work. Self-publishing is hard because every detail is up to you and you can't go back and be disappointed at someone you paid $500 to help. I think her book could have had a bigger influence if she had taken time to review every detail. It takes me on average over a year to self-publish my books...after it's written. Don't rush it.

I have been shocked more times than id like to admit. The worst was reaching into a breaker panel that turned on the barn lights at my moms. I had no idea her husband had been working on the panel and had taken the metal plate that covers all the wires off so I just reached in there looking for the lever as usual (its always pitch black till you flip the lever) and boy did I find out.... it was so bad I couldnt let go of it. When I walked into the house they said my hair was literally sticking up in places, I also immediately started sweating all over. Evidently that much electricity can kill a person very easily. Thank goodness my body absorbed it somehow. I have never touched that switch since.

It appears as though the plaintiff had good intentions in writing the book, however she clearly did not understand the business side of publishing a book. She lacks computer skills, not sure why the daughter couldn't have taken over for her mother, it entailed her reading emails and following links. The defendant needs to change her business practices as well. It was an interesting case, and a nice change from the usual loan issues, and 'Buyers remorse' vehicle purchases.

She is very far behind and cannot do simple tasks, and she is not a baby boomer. She is young. The plaintiff needs to adjust her life. There is a reason no one came forward over her sons murder and it's likely as much to do with her behaviour as the apparent murderer and she has muddied the case I don't see a best seller here

The plaintiff didn’t even read the book she wrote? I cant even imagine how many mistakes there were in grammar and spelling because she speaks them on the show. Her grammar is awful, not sure how she even sold 3 books, probably to family. The plaintiff was 100% at fault, she owes the defendant an apology and as much money as she was suing for. How frivolous!
