Taking AMTRAK from Norfolk VA to NYC

I worked for Amtrak from October 1995-November 2002. I started on AutoTrain between Lorton Virginia and Sanford Florida (Sanford is near Orlando) then I transferred to Washington DC. My first time riding the Train as a passenger was in the mid 80s between Washington DC and Williamsburg Virginia made that trip several times a year. Amtrak had two trains named Night Owl (this train even had a Viewliner sleeping car) and The Colonial. The route was Boston MA and ended in Newport News VA. Business class was a little different on the train you rode when I worked for Amtrak. The cafe had tables on one side and on the other had passenger seats in a 2 by 1 configuration. Non alcoholic drinks Coffee tea juices and water was complimentary to Business class passengers.

They just added back a Viewliner sleeper to the night train, but it’s open to and from DC, not in Virginia, apparently.

Is Norfolk the start station for Amtrak? Trying to decide if I wanna go there cuz I live in Williamsburg to get better seating early on.

I'm not quite sure, I was there to visit a friend in VA beach.. from the VA beach I think Norfolk is the closest station...:-)

I will be doing it from NYC to Norfolk, looks like fun. I have done the NYC to Ft Lauderdale trip on Amtrak. Does the NYC to VA offer a sleeper? I know it’s only an 8 hour rail ride, thanks in advance.

I dont think they have a sleeper... I was on the business class its pretty comfortble and social distancing is being observed😀

No there is no sleeper on this route... well maybe from NYC to WAS but no sleeper below WAS...no NFK or NPN

Hello. Will be traveling with toddler this fall on Amtrak from Norfolk VA to nyc then to Albany . Do you have any tips for first time with toddler ?

I'm not really an expert but I think you can book on the time where your son/daughter will be asleep or bring as much toys and food and maybe a light bag for your valuables so you can carry it with you and you don't have to worry if you will be walking and touring the train

i advise to get a ticket early..its cheaper when you book in advance...

if you are taking the business class it should be the very last wagon... i think its a 8 hour ride, the food inside can be pricey so better to bring as much food as you can .. :-)

I think it took 8 hours... i was on a business class i forgot exactly depending i think how soon you will do the booking but i think its around 300
