The true ASD test is actually not answering the questions on a quiz, it is how you react to the questions and wording and how you figure out answers to the questions. That's why you need to have a professional do the test with you. I was literally in a group for ASD, and during the sign up process we would have a 1-on-1 with someone to fill out questions, and the questions I asked about the questions (and what questions they are) were the exact same as everyone else who did the questionnaire. Its like "do you like people? Yes or no?" And everyone was like "WHAT DO YOU MEAN???? Some people are interesting but others are just bad and boring! Why is this a yes or no question???" and that is the ASD answer.
@jaanaberg6125 Жыл бұрын
Oooooooh no that makes sense cuz me having done the RAADS test twice now and just answered everything as the question is written I've definitely stopped at most of the questions and asked myself what the actually means and in what contexts they would apply to me and how I should interpret the question 😂 Now I get like 86 or something on the test but it would be really interesting to me what a professional would have to say and whether they'd diagnose me or not
@orionskittles Жыл бұрын
That makes sense actually, I know I have ASD and a while ago I decided to take an autism test for fun to see what it said and I remember pausing a lot on the questions to think "wait...it isn't yes or no, how do I answer this, what"
@nyx5508 Жыл бұрын
Makes sense. One time, an entire table of us at my school took the test and like, every 5th or 6th question I was like, "What are you talking about?? What's the context?? WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME, TEST?"
@delsingray5923 Жыл бұрын
"Why is it a yes or no question?" That's the ASD answer. ....Accurate. Though sometimes professionals can be kinda dumb. Like they think I don't really talk among other things, when those things were from ptsd, trauma, and major depression. They were still right. I'm definitely autistic but smh sometimes. Big words when a smaller one could be used. ASD! Um, no.... its called education and just being me. I had a good private school.

I'm also trans, though nonbinary, and I'm starting to think about T and your experience really helps, so I guess everything is more clear now. yeah i took the raads-r with my friends who are all diagnosed with autism,,, i got the highest score. so the past few months have been a lot of self reflection and research. i think actually thats part of the reason it took me so long to realize im trans, becuase i have never felt like i knew how to fit in and i had to learn how to socialize and be a person by following people around me. part of that became Being A Girl. during the first lockdown, when i didnt have to spend so much time with other people, i was able to let that unravel and start to discover who i actually was. and almost three years later, here i am, finally starting to understand why i had to struggle so much

Found out there is a lot of medical research data results saying that there is a lot of over lap between if you have one the higher chance you have the other too. Not always but the data doesn't lie, unless its manipulated/ confirmation bias involved which is unscientific and wrong to do, to prove for or against the actual real raw data and findings.

I'd also read up on ARFID, avoidant restrictive food intake disorder. I've had it my whole life and it's really common in autistic people

I've also been suspecting lately that I might have autism too (I scored 172 on the test you took), but after this whole ADHD fiasco I don't think that my doctor would be much help, and if I said anything to my parents about it I'm sure they'd say "oh no, you're perfectly fine, you don't fit this CISHET WHITE MALE VERSION of autism we think is the only kind that exists and is a thing" and am just overall feeling really fed up. Your videos always make me feel so much better, really helping me see that I'm not alone and that I'm not being ridiculous and making this all up in my head. Thanks a ton for the videos, Noah :)

We respect self-diagnosis around here! I actually got tested for ADHD because of you being open about your ADHD, and that lead directly to me being tested for Autism. It explained so much of my life. I even found out I'm an extrovert, turned out I was just traumatized by how people treated me when I was fully myself! Allistic (non-autistic) people like to assume the worst of others, so everything I say and do was seen as malicious in some way. Now I know I am exactly who I say I am and I'm so happy and proud to be autistic! 😊 You helped open the door to me finally learning to love myself and finally grow as a person. I can never repay you, but I'll always voice my support for you and all your endeavors! Keep at it, bud! PS I hope I get to come to your show in Phoenix because I'd love to tell you this in person!

11:34 this especially! Don't ever let people convince you that you're a bad person or that you're trying to be hurtful when you simply misunderstood something! The thing about autistic people is we are more than happy to adjust our behavior if they just say something is bothering them. But allistic people assume you're going to be able to pick up on their invisible rules. It's ableist as hell! So don't feel bad when people mistreat you for saying the wrong thing or misunderstanding something. That's on them. ❤️

Exactly self diagnosis is so valid especially when the waiting list (at least where I am) is minimum 3 years. Do they expect people to just not mention it when you’ve spent years understanding that you most likely have autism and qualified for research and have done so much research yourself. Not to mention that in other countries people have to pay a crazy amount of money to get referred in the first place

Honestly autism runs in my family. and I was kinda raised to think it was weird so I never thought about it. but I fit this description to a tee and it literally explains like everything about me. my grandmother who is a special Ed teacher got upset when I was a kid. because for a while when I was younger anytime I didn’t know what to say or just felt like it. I would meow instead of speaking. and she said that was something special Ed kids do. Also I’m literally so fucking happy to find out that I’m not the only one who does the clothes things. My parents get really upset with me a lot. Because I will buy clothes and then not be able to wear them. And my parents would scream at me because I would literally start crying if they tried to make me wear the clothes. So I got 161 on the test😭

omg he's just like me fr!!! All the things you listed were the same as me, diagnosed autistic at 12. In some ways I'd say you're lucky to only be getting diagnosed now. I'm currently 18, but my family treats me like a baby, incapable of making my own decisions. I don't know what your family is like, but my family uses my autism as a reason I can't transition and can't make my own decisions on my gender identity and sexual orientation (I am a trans male like you). I have heard it is significantly harder to get gender affirming care as an autistic person. Upsides to being diagnosed? Special treatment at school? Well, even after having a diagnosis, teachers didn't know how to help me. My parents were constantly telling the schools to implement things to help me be more comfortable at school, and they said that they would, but surprise surprise, they never did. Idk if that was just a problem with the schools that I went to, or a societal problem. Also NDIS stuff and support workers are seriously hard to get, and the turn over rate on social workers is atrocious. Anyways, cool video, Noah! Very relatable as always! :) Glad to hear you're finding out more stuff about yourself.

Fun fact! If you have to do standardized tests at any academic level and have ASD, try to get an accommodation for a private testing room and the ability to talk/get question clarification. Talking out your logic out loud helps make answering easier, and clarification of questions means you actually know what people are asking you to answer (like the question "what is blue?" could mean anything, what objects are blue, what does blue represent, what does blue mean in the context of the class, what is the definition of blue, etc so its good to know what is meant by that question.)

I honestly feel so blessed that I grew up around autistic people. Two of my best friends growing up along with two of my cousins are autistic, and in the last few years I met yet another autistic person. Only one out of five is a woman though. The other four are men which I find interesting. I'm genuinely so happy I get to know these people personally because I never thought of autistic people as being very different or weird even from a young age. To me there's no stigma to break when I talk to a new autistic person. I am close with my eldest cousin (who is autistic) and we text literally every day although we live on opposite sides of America. He's actually planning to move out to where my family lives so we can see each other more while he's in college and we all couldn't be happier. I know that people can be afraid of things they don't understand, but still, it's truly heartbreaking seeing my cousin being treated differently from me when we grew up the same way and share so many of the same memories and experiences. I wish the world would accept him for who he is instead of judging him based off of a word they don't fully understand. I'm so happy to not only see more representation in the media through the past few years and even months, but I'm also happy to see people talking about autism in such a casual way instead of making the conversation seem tense and cautious. Noah, I've watched your videos for so so long now (I'm even coming to see you on tour!) and I want to say thank you for making this video. I tried out the test and got 177. I was diagnosed with autism as a child. Lately during last year I have began to suspect that I have inattentive ADHD because that would explain so much of the struggles I have had with keeping schedules and my time blindness as well as how chaotic my mind can be. I am working now so I am going to self fund seeing a psych about an ADHD diagnosis. Also I'm genderfluid non-binary and use they/them pronouns :-) I took an ADHD online test and it said that I got 17 out of 24 (the higher the score the more likely someone has ADHD) so I highly suspect I have it.

Man this is the most relatable video on the internet and it came at the perfect time!! Today my school called to say that teachers are complaining about my behaviour so I’m doing a diagnosis soon 🥲

I'm sorry for giggling, but it was linda funny that Noah took the question on "meeting new people" so literally. I understood it as meeting new people and being social/making friends/networking, not how to greet them (handshake, hug etc).

I love how you literally describe autism using life stories. I'm AMAB, so I got diagnosed pretty early, but didn't really understand it until just recently. But yeah

Fun fact! There's a slight overlap between the trans and autistic population! Research shows the autistic population is overrepresented inside the trans community! (The opposite is also true) That just means there's more autistic people inside the trans community than outside of it, and the other way around too! I myself am a part of a research program to improve standards of care for trans-autistic people (both trans and autistic).

I’m autistic and listen to certain songs on repeat which my family says would drive them insane. Your music has became one of the things I listen to repeat.

As someone who was diagnosed later in life (at 26), I know exactly the kind of struggles you've gone through. Both in the ways Autism has affected my life without me in knowing, and my road to realization that I was Autistic. I started questioning things after getting my ADHD diagnosis and interacting with AuDHD creators. And sometimes I still get imposter syndrome even though I now have a formal diagnosis.

I’m a trans guy who was diagnosed with autism when I was 2 years old (The reason I was diagnosed so early is because my older brother was already diagnosed with severe autism so they wanted to get me tested out to just in case, ended up also being on the spectrum) and I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 10 years old. The only thing my ADHD really affects is my focus but my autism affects a lot more like my social communication skills, how I see the world and other things. I’ve also been dealing with gender dysphoria for 7 1/2 years and only last year is when I came to the realization that I’m trans. I basically spent 6 years as a Tomboy but more extreme.

Honestly, quizzes like this drive me crazy. I prefer quizzes that are like on a scale of 1-10 how would you answer this question? Maybe because this is a test that is testing for autism, the questions and the options make sense but can I get a "sometimes" option. I feel like my answer is sometimes for a lot of these questions and I don't know whether to answer true or never true. This quiz clearly shows that talking to a professional to get an official diagnosis is the way to go.

I’m autistic and a lot of your childhood stories like wanting to be characters from movies is something I can relate to. It’s usually only tested on men and as a woman it looks very different often. It’s not all about trains and maths and no emotion. For me it’s deep emotion, lack of contact and sensory issues. I get over stimulated easily and have an incredible imagination
@robokill387 Жыл бұрын
it isn't all about "trains and maths and no emotion" for men either, those are stereotypes, not reality. Also, historically it has been tested on boys, not men, in fact autistic adults in general are poorly understood because over 90% of research and funding has gone towards children.

Been watching you for so so many years, and have wondered why i felt such a kinship when I wasnt super-into the music genre, i'm not trans nor queer. Well, being autistic, it all makes more sense now. The autistic and ND "radar" is very much a thing. I hope you wont have much annoyances with the process of checking it out professionally.

Have you ever heard of synesthesia? It’s when you associate one sense with another, for example you might be able to smell color, or see music (colors or shapes), or hear sounds when experiencing pain, or seeing numbers, letters and words in different colors. I can relate a lot to you cause I’m also trans, have adhd, autism and also synesthesia. I thought it would be interesting if you have it too, since you’re a musician and a lot of musicians have synesthesia where they see color or shapes when listening to music or writing music :)

I also had a spiderman phase. I watched Spiderman Homecoming constantly for a few weeks. I'd finish it, then go back and rewatch it. I'd scream and cry if I was told to turn it off or told I had to watch something else. I would spend all day at school completely on edge because I wasn't watching it. I knew every single line of the movie. Kinda glad I'm not the only one who was obsessed with it

Two of my brothers have autism, and I’ve grown pretty used to living with them. It’s sometimes a bit hard when it comes to helping them with their homework, but in general it’s not all that bad. I’m basically the one child that puts so much pressure on themselves to be the best and rarely actually does stuff for themselves (more recently I have been trying to do more things for myself now like hobbies and other interests)

Watching this reminds me of my daughter. She has autism and ADHD. I totally get that the official autism diagnostic test at least used to be, not sure how it’s changed was biased for boys. She was first tested at three (in 2003) and was diagnosed as not having it. It was very frustrating as parents because it was obvious to us the diagnosis was wrong. She wasn’t formally diagnosed until we insisted she be tested again at fourteen. She’s now 22 and luckily has embraced being neurodivergent.

What I know about autism is that it's a spectrum. No two autistic people are the same. Autism usually comes with a lot of creativity. There's a lot of sensory issues that come along with it. Noah I'm so happy you are ok. It cheers me up to watch your videos. You and Corey are such an inspiring couple. I like you guys as a couple. You're so nice to eachother. I admire your relationship.

i’m AuDHD and so glad you’re exploring this because ive sensed that “hey our brains seem pretty similar beyond just the ADHD” and “…. that feels like more an autism trait” several times but like suggesting people get tested for neurodevelopmental disabilities in their youtube comments isn’t socially acceptable apparently

I have ASD (clinically diagnosed). I’m not a doctor, but I can see you’ve done your research and really do align with a lot of the criteria. If you haven’t, you can also look at the ICD-11 online. This video is not offensive at all. It feels like you’re trying to truly figure your diagnosis out respectfully and just taking us on the journey with you. You’re also raising awareness for autism and adhd, which is so important.
