Horses were utilized in wars as late as WW2. People have always ridden them into battle where they died like the soldiers died, they got impaled, cut, shot and bombed, so horses can be useful in extreme situations even though they are skittish animals. Nevertheless, I agree that today it's not a smart idea to still use them for crowd control when we don't have to. It's dangerous for the horses, the officers and the public.

If a cop brings a horse to control a crowd, they do not care about the horse. Crowds are scary and dangerous, especially if everyone moves in one direction. The second a horse is brought into danger needlessly (they could have used cars or bikes or ANYTHING BESIDES SENTIENT BEINGS), it is cruel. In the US we don't have police horses (as far as I know?), but we have police dogs who temd to be poorly trained. I have a service dog, and in the service animal community we avoid police dogs whenever we can. It's less likely that a police dog will be calm around our dogs and more likely that the police dog might bark at or even attack our medically required dog. PS- Service dogs are what we call assistance dogs :)

Tbf the whole thing is unethical because they are literally putting the dogs in harms way, attacking people with the dogs... like the dog is a weapon and could be a deadly weapon but a person trying to defend themselves, if they hurt the dog then they could get in trouble for hurting a police officer... i love dogs but if one is biting me, you better believe im gonna be trying to kick it away. And the dogs often attack much longer than they are supposed to, even when called back but also police dont always call them back when they are meant to. Its just all very wrong.

in regards to horses being used by cops, as a horse person i think it’s a abuse of power tbh. i feel like it’s so thoughtless to use animals as a power tactic to scare people, especially horses. even calm horses will STILL be very sensitive animals, and they will act in dangerous ways for the horse, the people around them and the rider. i don’t know what training the cops get about horse safety but the crowds will likely not have any. it’s literally dangerous for everyone when on earth would that ever go well? police just seem to choose any dangerous option to deal with protests and corrupting the peacefulness of them.

In my city, police horses are used in like, parks and stuff, where you can't drive a car, so the police can get around more. I have also seen them on Oktoberfest and was surprised how chill they were. Granted, they were just standing around and occasionally moving spots to look out, no driving into the crowd

That’s one wild story. Glad it turned out alright in the end. People like that (the racism, the transphobia, etc.), I’ll just never understand. That story was wild from beginning to end, but it’s just so typical that these sitatuons happen to trans people and people just y’know doing their own thing. It’s just a bit ridiculous and it’s tiring, I’m sure. As a transmasc I usually stay out of trouble like this if I can help it coz no one wants to listen, it’s just so dumb. People like that are never going to be reasoned with becasue they are so stuck in their head about the fact that they have to be and are right. It’s just so dumb.
