Thank-you very much for this video./. I has an MX922 for about 10 years and one morning it failed to turn on. Found. a used working one, but the exit paper tray wasn't working. You video demonstrated very clearly how to remove the tray. A little piece of plastic that had the pivot head had broken off and was right at the bottom of the printer. I was able to get it out and crazy glue it back in place. Holding so far. Thanks a lot for posting this video.

Your video on how to take the MX922 apart is awesome. I appreciate the work you do to show us how printers are disassembled, especially the MX922. On time stamp 4:05 of the video, the ink absorber reservoir is visible and I was wondering if at that point I am able to remove and replace the reservoir without removing any complicated wiring or panels?

It is a bit difficult, but you may be able to replace it. I do want to make you aware of the fact that if your printer is giving you an error related to ink absorber full or needs to be replaced, that message will not go away if you replace the absorbers or absorber tank. You will need to reset it and there are some websites selling the reset utility. You may be able to reset the absorber count and clear message without replacing the actual pads or box.

It was very helpful. There was a paper jam and the paper was under the top. I haven´t an idea how I remove the Scanner. Easy to use for people like me without any expert knowledge. After the video instruction everything works perfect.

Finally it looks like I've found someone who is actually knowledgeable about the MX922 printer! I've been getting a persistent 1403 error on my low mileage 922. I've replaced the expensive print head about a year ago and the error cleaned returning the printer to functionality. Most recently I had run the machine through several cleaning cycles when the error reappeared. I bought another print head which hasn't solved the issue this time. It seems the printer just flat out refuses to recognize the print head now. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Geoffrey

Great video. Quick question: my printer completely died after I tried the trick to reset the B200 error - doesn't turn on at all now. I want to remove the ink cartridges that are inside the printer, but I can't move the printhead. Is there any way to move it, or do i need to take the whole thing apart to get to them?

Hi 303 Electronics, I have watched your great video on dismantling MX922. I am having a lot of difficulty removing LHS Cover (Covering access to Main Control PCB). It seems to have a clip holding on front (above USB port, next to hinge, that supports the front paper printout cover). I suspect is the similar clip on LHS Cover, that managed to break, whilst attempting same removal procedure. Watching the video, there appears you using a flat blade Screwdriver to pry open the cover on side & at bottom underneath this LHS side cover to aid removal to gain access to the PCB connectors to proceed in removal of the Top cover, then the Scanner Platen, after freeing up the interconnection ribbon cables & wires. To allow access inside the printer, to retrieve the smallest waste ink pad, that popped out of it's rubber assembly, ended up inside, I suspect sitting on the waste ink pads under the waste ink purge pump. But after many hours of searching using LED lights and Dental mirror, Inspection camera, cannot locate this "little annoying ink waste pad" that I was going to clean and replace back in it's rubber container. I had Fault Code b200, cleaned the printhead several times, now got Fault code 1405, telling me I have a incorrect printhead installed. When it is the actual original printhead. I suspect is NOT FAULTY at all, just Canon wanting me to waste money on purchasing a new Printhead, just to clear a fault code, that is false. Having experience in 50 years in repair and fault finding techniques, there is always a MASTER RESET CODE or Procedure that Fixes lots of issues. It's blatantly obvious Canon does not want consumers to repair their printers instead want us to purchase another new Printer, that does not compare with Model MX926 I have owned and worked very well since 2015, until recently. Canon forced Obsolescence. But ALL Manufactures are the SAME. Cheap to purchase, costs a fortune to purchase ink, waste ink, like there is no tomorrow. Great Marketing. That being the reason I am trying to get this printer working Again. Hope you can offer some assistance in removing the LHS Cover, without breaking these fragile clips that hold everything together. I have found the TR8660A printer (the closest comparable replacement), but ALL Canon printers do not do "AUTO DUPLEX SCANNING using ADF", only Manual, (User has to turn over the multiple pages to Scan Double Sided pages, to Copy to Paper, or Print to PDF File). MX926 has that function. Cheers Bob.

The ink pads can be replaced, but if you look in the video, it us tucked away really far. If you get a message that ink pad is full, sometimes a reset is the only way to go even if you replace one. Reset can be purchased online for approximately $10. I do not sell reset codes.

Mine is working OK, except that it sometimes double feeds paper. I can't seem to find a paper separator pad. Can you tell me how this printer is supposed to separate the paper when feeding? Many thanks.

Hello. The separation of paper on this printer happens in the tray. At the back side of the main paper Cassette tray, there are ridged tabs. Make sure those are clean. Also, make sure the tab that adjusts the paper length is set to correct setting. And of course, the main paper pick up rollers should be clean.

Hi. It most likely goes behind the picknup roller if you are trying to pick up paper from bottom tray. That roller assembly is at the bottom when you remove the tray. When springbis where it should be, the roller assembly will spring back if you push it.

such a huge part of this printer is it's ability to print on disc media. why did you not choose to get into it? I, as well as others, have been having issue with the cd disc tray not advancing properly. Could you possibly find out if we can get to the feed system for that disc tray and clean it? as there are metallic mirror-like stickers on the tray, perhaps sensors in there that are dusty and need a cleaning? I tried to perform a roller cleaning but only found the lower cassette and upper cassette cd tray.

First I unplugged and replugged, disconnected and reconnected the USB. Sounds like the power supply went out. I forgot to mention that I have already tried resetting the printer by turning it off, disconnecting the power cord, replugging and restarting, etc., but to no avail. Something I just found by googling error 5C20 seems to indicate that the trouble is not some little bit that has broken off and fallen in amongst the rollers, but something more daunting for me to try to fix, like the cartridge carriage belt or printer head. But what do I have to lose--guess I'll have a stab at it. Your video has really given me more courage.

I'm trying to resolve a persistent B200 error. I've cleaned the print head twice, and replaced it with a new one. So now I'm looking to delve in deeper to see if it's a connection problem on the carriage, or the ink waste tank full (Is that even possible?). I'm hoping I can see something with just the right side off, but I suspect I'll end up having to remove the whole top.... Although I only paid $90 for it on Amazon, it would cost a lot more to replace it now.... And yes, I've been using cheap ink cartridges in it....

I'm sorry you are going through so much trouble. Unfortunately, B200 is 99% of the time fixed by a good replacement. When you remove the printehead, does the error go away? I would first try to get a replacement for the printhead you bought. It may be faulty.

A sort of intense vibration like a tiny piece of rubber is catching . I do not get a error code but I get faint black chatter lines like this ... Hi. It is most likely that the rod on which carriage slides back and forth needs some lubricant. Try a form of grease lubricant and clean the rod before applying it. Sometimes just wiping down the rod with a dry towel should resolve the problem. Do that before applying any lubricant to it. If the problem is not the rod, sclean the timing film strip. Yes, unfortunately. Try removing printhead, then try to power up your printer. It can be one of three things or all at once: printhead, power supply, or main board.

Do you have any idea that might explain what caused the power ot quit. It was definitely something I did I had a B200 error and found the issue. BUt while figuring it all out I somehow made it power down and NOT BE WILLING to power up again by holding down button combinations etc. It sis bone dead ..but the fuses in teh PS are fine. O see the power supply has an 8VDC output and a 10 VDC output. Both seem to work OK working . Very nice video. I always wonde3red where the spent ink tank sponges were.

My brother in law has this exact printer MX922 and keep getting a 6502 and 1413 codes, something to do with the ink tanks not being recognized. No lights on the ink tanks at all. I think it's time to dump it. Tried all kinds of procedures and even a hard reset and still same. Hate to throw it away.☹️

@303 Electronics Thank you for the video. I will be replacing the head assy on mine tonight, and thought it would be a great time to clean the entire head cleaning mechanism before I do. That could prevent old ink from being scraped across the heads. Just good preventative maintenance, as I want to keep this gem for as long as possible. The photo printing is as good on this as most Walgreens, Etc.

Hello, I have a problem with a Canon MX925 which no longer picks up the big papers. After searching for 2 years, I realized by comparing the mechanism of the rollers of the small drawer still working with that of the large drawer that the rod which turns to drive the rollers no longer seemed to communicate correctly. Perhaps something is broken at the contact level (the problem occurred after a paper jam) but it's well hidden and I don't see how I can dismantle this mechanism. Do you have any ideas ? I really feel sorry that I will have to replace my printer one day because of such a small part. Thank you whatever your answer may be and congratulations for your videos.

Dude, The output tray. That extension piece seems to be a common 'breakage' point. How do you take the tray apart to put the gear in place when you're no longer able brute force it back into place?

I am thinking power supply, or logic board. we did have several power outs and back on so a small surge if you will prior to this event. Maybe print head, I just do not think it is that. Sometime one of the three will short the printer: Power outage, logic board, but most likely the printhead.

My mx922 died. Abfter cleaning the print head, etc had to purchase a new printer so now this one will be disposed of. Because I've been told that all printers keep a copy of everything they have copied in a memory bank, I need to know what part contains the memory bank and how to take it out of the computer then make it so that it will not be readable. Any ideas?

I'm not sure about the printers of this size that have memory enough to keep any printed information. It is large office machines that have memory that stores recent printed documents possibly. The memory on the printer like mx922 is just enough to store the function activity and the job being sent. However, I'm not sure. If you still want to be sure of destroying any data, you may remove the main board and break it. Wear safety gear such as gloves and goggles.

Is there a way to get the carriage unit moving without any power by any chance? My mx925 won't power up. I'm suspecting a short circuit causing it after I did the cleaning of the print head earlier. Any tips will be much appreciated.

There is a mechanism under the carriage that slide back and forth. You can gently push it with a screw driver and that will release the cartiage unit. You will need to open up the right side (if looking at the printer) to do that.

I'm sorry for the late reply. Check if you may have left a small piece of torn paper inside the printer somewhere, shine some light inside. Sometimes the paper is trapped at the very end of the right or left side. Check it and see if you can pull it out.

I tried to remove a paper jam and ended up with a tiny piece of paper jammed in the rollers. I can see it but can't reach it. I removed the side but I can't get it due to the green board in the way. Can I take the top off with out removing the top of the photo copier?

A small, white plastic piece (11 mm wide x 37 mm long) came off the bottom of the printer (above the paper tray) while I was clearing a paper jam. I couldn't figure out where the piece went. The printer seems to print okay without it. Is there a way for me to send you a photo of the small part?

Hi. Error 1403 can show because there is a problem with cartridges most times. Since you already changed out a printhead, and still getting this error, try removing all cartridges and see if the error goes away. If the error goes away, just install cartridges one at a time and when you insert a bad cartridge, a 1403 error will trigger and you may know which cartridge is bad. If this doesn't help, try to install a new set of ink cartridges.

@@grimdoo Restart printer after pulling the cartridges out to reset the error. it is ok to use aftermarket cartridges on this model, but try a different seller online after returning these. Sometimes the chips on cartridges are wrong. Another thing, the cartridges have different chips for different world regions. Make sure that the cartridge number is same as your original. (In USA, this model uses #250 and #251 cartridge, in your country it is a different cartridge number most likely )

I have paper jam in my MX922 that cannot be resolved by normal means. I was running some old sheets of mailing labels through the printer when one came apart in the middle of the paper path. The torn piece that is there cannot be accessed at all from the front or back. If I follow these disassembly steps (ignoring those that are not involved with this issue), will the full paper path be exposed so I can remove the torn label (and perhaps clean off any adhesive residue left behind by the torn label)? Also, if I keep track of the removed parts and where they came from, how hard will reassembly be?

FYI: I was able to remove the torn piece of the mailing label sheet by following these directions. Then (somewhat to my amazement) I was able to get the printer put back together and the printer worked fine. One small "glitch" is that after reassembly and testing the printer, I discovered I had 4 of the screws left over. Given that everything is working, I'll hold onto to these but not try and take things apart to get them where they should be. I think the power supply went out after I had installed new ink cartridges. Now I can't manually move the print head to remove those new cartridges for a different printer. How do I release that locked print head compartment- that's locked all the way over to the right side from the front?...Please note that I do not have any power to the printer-it does not turn on, but I am trying to remove those cartridges. When the print head is not locked on the far right side, you can manually move or slide that print head, but what do you do to unlock it with no power? Also,, is it worth spending $40 to buy a new, "used" (K30350) power supply to try to see if that will fix it?

Thank you! There is a couple fuses on the printer memory board and power supply unit, but I do not know if they are replaceable. I have never replaced any fuses on power supply or the board. Not yet. I'm sorry.

@@303electronics To anyone technically inclined.... they are all replaceable even if you have to add a socket by using a couple pigtail wires off the circuit board. As someone who did repairs on electronics to put me through getting my BSEE, AFTER I worked in multiple company's doing troubleshooting & repair for a living. If you find a fuse thats bad, see if its a slow-blow, or standard fast blow. Then replace with the same ratings, the cosmetics of the fuse (Size, etc) are irrelevant. If you can't do that or can't find the info, whatever the reason, I have seen working printers with bad heads for sale on E-Bay. Buy it for parts. Swap power supplys, or other parts. THESE PRINTERS ARE UNICORNS NOW. Nobody has a printer that will print at this 9400 X 2400 resolution for under at least $400 or more! Hell, if you can't fix it, write me, I may buy it!

My MX900 series refuses to print black, no matter what I try. Multiple deep cleaning runs with brand new ink. Still zero black coming out. Do you think I need to take it apart and manually clean something or is there another easy fix?

This is exactly what mine is doing too! I think it has an ink clog inside the tubes since cleaning the print head didn't fix it. This video didn't quite get to the ink side, so I don't know where to go from here. Did you get yours resolved?

I have two of these. The first (and oldest) has a B200 error, and when I called Canon they said the who printer needs to be replaced. Fortunately I purchased a "spare" last summer just in case my first one failed. The issue I'm having is the front door paper support doesn't extend when I lower the door. If I manually swing out the paper support it stays in place as long as the door is open. What I don't know if if the mechanism in the door is broken, or if the mechanism in the printer body is broken. Any ideas if it's worth changing out the door with the printer that has the B200 error?

Great video, thanks for sharing it. It helped a lot in taking apart a client's printer that isn't working. It is a mx922 and getting error 6000. I took apart up to a point till I discovered what the problem was. Or at least I think this is the problem. the ink tray does will not go back to the park position. there is a small tab that seems to be stopping it. In looking at the piece of plastic on the other side, I can't tell if it is broken or if it's supposed to be connected to something that I can't see since I haven't taken that area apart yet. Just wondering if you had any thoughts on how this tray stop is supposed to work. thank you.

Hi! I have the same problem with my printer. It seems like a small white tab got loose inside and I tried putting it back. I didn’t know or knew where it goes and now I can’t retrieve that small tab. It’s somewhere inside the printer. The only way it will probably come out if I shake the printer upside down. 😆 I am afraid to take it apart and not be able to put it back together. I bought another printer for now. Did you resolved your printer issue?

Absolutely. U have to clean the pad.

@@knutnyborg196 @ 17:10 The white cube touch the left hand is only PART of the absorber pad 'array. At 17:10 we only about 1/2 way to replacing the the mat that need refreshing. Basically we have to rebuild as there are large blotter/absorbers that are the first step of construction. Lesson Learnt: error code C000 and B200 give up it dead.

Hi. Thanks for the feedback. Please see this video to reset b200 error. I hope it helps. Sometimes printheads also go bad and I hope it is not the case for you. The printhead for you printer is expensive. $40-$70 USD.

Wondering if someone can help me on our MX922 with a cartridge for each color. We had a print head issue awhile back, and that was fixed. Now it's the ink absorber full and it keeps coming up now repeatedly. My husband didn't think it had an ink absorber. I need instructions on getting out of this repeated scenario. And for an unknown reason when the printer is getting ready to print a Loud noise happens each time, sometimes twice.. I'd appreciate your insights on this.

During transportation, the feeder cover on my MX922 printer came off and is now missing. Because of this, I cannot print anything as support code #2800 states "The feeder cover is open. Close cover and select OK". The problem is, I no longer have a feeder cover! Is there any way for the printer to bypass this error or is there a place I can purchase JUST the feeder cover instead of a whole new printer? Thank you in advance.

Hi. Since you were transporting the printer, a sensor may have been affected and plastic piece just went out of place. Open the feeder cover and check for any broken plastics. One thing missing that i did nees help with is how do you remove the metal guide thats located in the front under the carriage its the last set up guides the paper flows through before leaving the printer and mine has a jamed wheel on the top right and i cant figure out how to get this thing to slide out with out breaking it

Great information on how to get the unit apart, but not sure a few clips weren't broken in the process.... as a technician much to be desired....just throw them screws where ever......yank them wires out.....toss that unit around. Will be a feat to put that thing back together again.
