He says what he thinks will satisfy Christians objectionists, if he was being scholarly he would invite someone to oppose or at least be qualified to critically analyse the subject matter i.e. people who have spent a life time studying the science of hadith and how the chains of narrations e.g. Dr Akram Nadwi from Cambridge (UK), Professor Jonathan Brown from Georgetown University USA.

You have no idea what he thinks. You're not him. You have zero evidence to reject the null hypothesis that he actually believes what he is saying, and has no other alterior motive.

Some of ahadith are fabricated to control some group (young men or wives)of people or are political motivated that is why people should use their minds when it comes to non spiritual ahadith.

Mariam Khan what is your proof? Where in Quran rejects Hadith? I know some hadith with curse what they say is from prophet peace upon him can be wrong because he is rahmat lil alamin and would not be cursing people for such a bagatelle. But where is Quran denying hadith?

Mariam Khan You are disobeying Allah by disobeying Muhammad (SAW). He is OUR messenger and do not do what they disbelievers did by rejecting the teachings of the Messenger. With clear signs and Books (We sent the Messengers). And We have also sent down unto you (O Muhammad SAW) the reminder and the advice (the Quran), that you may explain clearly to men what is sent down to them, and that they may give thought. O you who believe! Obey Allah and obey the Messenger (Muhammad SAW), and those of you (Muslims) who are in authority. (And) if you differ in anything amongst yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messenger (SAW), if you believe in Allah and in the Last Day. That is better and more suitable for final determination.

It is not long before he would be labelled as an agent of Jews and Christians the way he is approaching Hadith. Muslim ummah do not appreciate new way of approaching these subjects. But a massive thanks to him for taking the steps to clear the prejudice that literally killing the faith from inside and showing a way to the confused Muslims.

Minhaj Jawad Indeed you are right. Also one must not give one‘s salvation into the hands of fallible people, whether they are scholars or not. Also one must not be afraid of the Takfir of some groups, as every group believes they are Ahlu Sunnah Wal Jamaa, be they Sufis, Salafis, Shi‘i or even Ahmadyy

This is a great topic and he made a great point towards the end about how scholars and imams only picked certain ahadith to use in sermons. This is how pastors used the Bible. The internet is causing many of us to look into things with more scrutiny and hopefully it leads us to the truth, even if it is uncomfortable.

Thank you for a wonderful program. Finally I found a logical Scholar to listen to. I know there are many more. Dr. Shabir’s choice of words makes a huge difference in how I perceive and understand the topic. If you live in the Middle East, you will find the most of shaikh’s topics are about how women should be covered. Dr Shabir purely talks about religion not mixed in anyway with a cultural preference.

Again, thank you for your videos. I am impressed by evolving Islamic scholarship in general and by the quality and content of this channel specifically. Western media tends to focus only on the extremes of all religious peoples and practices that make for catchy sound bites. Honest people must go a step beyond their biases to learn. I will follow your content and recommend it to others.

If this channel wants to take a "balanced" approach then it has to do some justice to the subject i.e. why not invite a guest speaker such as Dr. Jonathan Brown to give a talk on Hadith? His views might go against the grain of this channel and it's content but it's the better thing to do. Also Dr Brown is from the United States and a scholar of Hadith. If anything even a skype/online interview would suffice. Or better still Dr. Akram Nadwi from Cambridge University (former student at Nadwa) to give an Arabic lecture on the topic or objections raised by Dr. Shabir Ally, Dr. Akram is extremely eloquent in Arabic, Persian, & Urdu..his English is understandable but it would do more justice to the topic if he was to give the talk in Arabic. Sadly most of us can just about speak English, yet we have an opinion on every matter of Deen. PS: I truly love Dr. Shabir but I would have to disagree with his approach, some of what he says especially as mentioned in a previous video about Hadith is overly simplistic. He paints a picture that Muslim "scholars" just open up Hadith books, quote something from it and make a Khutbah, yes the lay Imam might and has every right to do so if he is qualified on that particular matter but the scholars of Hadith are that i.e. "scholars". To equate a Khatib to a scholar is highly unjust even by way of not acknowledging their existence or their lack of mention. Just as how I wouldn't expect a scholar of Hadith to be qualified in Christian apologetics (their might be exceptions). I wouldn't also expect the opposite. Sure one can have a good grounding but every field has it's experts. We should always take the balanced approach and not throw the baby with the bath water.

That is the attitude. If it is not criticized and challenged by the kuffar just sweep the problematic hadiths under the rug. The Internet change that attitude. Imagine if internet does not exist, the leaders will keep the believer blindsided.

Székesfehérvár of Jewish heritage, he was educated at the universities of Budapest, Berlin, Leipzig and Leiden with the *support* of József Eötvös, Hungarian *minister of culture.* He became privatdozent at Budapest in 1872. In the next year, *under the auspices of the Hungarian government, he began a journey through Syria, Palestine and Egypt, and took the opportunity of attending lectures of Muslim sheiks in the mosque of al-Azhar in Cairo.* en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ign%C3%A1c_Goldziher Sander Gilman, in commenting on this passage, writes that, *'the Islam he discovered becomes the model for a new spirit of Judaism at the close of the nineteenth century.’* *In Cairo, Goldziher even prayed as a Muslim:* *"In the midst of the thousands of the pious, I rubbed my forehead against the floor of the mosque. Never in my life was I more devout, more truly devout, than on that exalted Friday."* *Despite his love for Islam, Goldziher remained a devout Jew all his life.* This bond to the Mosaic faith was unusual for a man seeking an academic career in Europe in the late 19th century. This fact is significant in understanding his work. *He saw Islam through the eyes of someone who refused to assimilate into contemporary European culture.* In fact, despite his fondness for Islam, he had little affection, if not outright scorn, for European Christianity. Should we even quote such scholars as source who remained non believers? This happens when empiricism takes over spiritual learning, point #1. Point #2 Are we are in somewhat better position in history. Is an axiom of modern euro centric histographic outlook. And instead of Englishization of Hadith for English language speakers perhaps you could have tried to Arabize the discusion. Would one be able to learn Shakespeare in Arabic?

"'Bismillahir rahmaniir Rahiim!" Yah Allah, please don't allow to mislead the innocent Ummah on hadiths which are forbidden in Quran 7:3 & 69:44-47! Sunnah is action to comply Allah's swt command in the Quran. Hadith of men (scholars) divided the Ummah into sects while forbidden in Quran 30:32; 42:14-15; 43:64-65; 45:17, 28. Read from Google how KSA & the Rulership of the King under a Monarchy came into being & see what legitimized the Kingship by inheritance & not by choice of the Sovereign people based on Quranic Criteria. Who is now in control of KSA & its King? They are the same people in control of the Islamic Schools & Institution of the Arab world who sponsor scholarships of students from all nations of the World & after graduation they are sent with salary as preachers to countries they want them to preach. Some graduated as doctor of hadiths, of theology & of other courses they designed for them. Surprisingly, when they returned to their country of origin as ulamas some of them are with title as Dr, Shiek or Mufti, & they often differ in their teachings to the Ummah. Some became politicians under a corrupt government by Consultation & Laws of men & disregarding Quran as Complete & Perfect Constitution & Laws of (God) Allah swt for all of Mankind to follow, rule & govern. The King of KSA belong to the Wahabi Islam which is a minority of all divided Arabs into sects. Read from Google background story of Abdul Wahab who originated Wahabism against other scholars of Islam in early 19 centuries when KSA became a State in 1932 with Muhammad Saud as the 1st King installed by King Alfred of Great Bretain. That made the KSA under control & allies of the Western Power since then until now. It is now an enemy of the rest of the Arab World. Read Quran 33:8 & see to whom such verse is referred to by Allah swt. Masha'allah! Allahu'akbar!

Great talk but he's assuming that the hadith can be authenticated when the Qur'an, nor any word or deed from the prophet Muhammad gave them authentication or authority. Also nowhere in the Qur'an is following the Sunnah of Muhammad the second component of Islam. You would think if it was supposed to be it would be mentioned at least once in the Qur'an. (And not from questionably interpreted quotes about Obey Allah and his messenger). Because if we did Obey we would follow the message which questions the need for hadith 45:6 and even Muhammad's command not to write hadith in the hadith literature itself. So if we did Obey Allah and his messenger there would be no discussion. Ahadith may be an interesting source of history but they are not revelation. Anywhere on par with the Qur'an.

Asalamualikum! Bismillahir rahmaniir Rahiim? There is no single verse of the Quran that speaks of hadiths of men as part to learn & believe in the Religion of Islam. They even contradict Quran 7:3 & 69;44-46. How it came about scholars of Islam must answer to Allah swt on Judgement Day. They even divided the Ummah into varied sects while forbidden in Quran 30:42; 42:13-14; 43:64-65; 45:17, 28; 6:159.

Doctor i don't agree with you the Qur'an stated in Qur'an 6:114 that its a book that talks and explains itself in details however, imitation what the prophet did is going to contradict the Qur'an logicl Allah sent the book in clear Arabic language so the people may understand it besides Mohammed was not a perfect man the Qur'an states empathise that Allah is perfect so why should we look unto a human who is imperfect to live our lives.

I think Dr Shabir is an apologist for Orientalist who did not have the good heart to scholasticaly examine the Hadiths, but with the aim of finding faults only. There is no way one can device exhaustive to tools that their earlier Muslim scholars used. n Not even under any scientific disciplines. The early Muslim scholars were guided by their taqwa and undertook and successfully achieved great results. As for interpretation it's different thing from authentic ovation . The science of Hadith is a discipline by itself and it has nothing to do with few hadiths used. There are hundreds of thousands of hadiths which has been sifted and classified. Dr Shabir needs to go back to school and learn from Hadith Alims not works of non Muslims.
@HusseinSirad

Brother Jason if Hadith is false, then it is classified as False(mauduu). if weak it has been classified as so. There is science of hadith, including biography of narrators, contents(matn). Contemporaries, chain of narrators and also methodology of verification(ilaal). One has to understand that any one doing verification has to use the same methodology instead of reinventing the wheel. Finally this is question of faith, and only education can cure doubts. Those who are leaving Islam are either ignorant of Islam or atheist looking for justification. May Allah help seekers of truth and guide them but guidance does not come from unbelievers. The Orientalist who we're mainly none believers aim we're to attack islam and shed doubt on Islam. Thanks for your polite response.

Jason Wilson You are bang on my friend. The traditional method of the scholars failing the intellectual lot and they believe that one should follow everything that is available in the name of Hadith no matter how detached the subject is from reality. Muslims are not getting a realistic solution without having to doubt the whole deen itself.
