I commend his bravery to call a spade as a spade, call degrading Hadith as degrading. Considering the cultist tendency of his fellow religionists to attack or persecute those who do not “defend” their religion, this is brave. I hope someday he reach the enlightenment where he can see that the real truth does not need defending. The real truth should be able to defend itself, otherwise it is not the truth. Everyone has to be encouraged to think critically of his/her religion (as well as others) instead of defending their religion no matter what. Many Muslims understand this when it comes to other believes, but not when it comes to their own believe.

It’s real simple. Any Hadith that contradicts the Quran. You should reject it. Whether it is in Bukhari or not. You should not take a Hadith in isolation without referencing what the previous or contemporary scholars has said about it. Lastly isnaad our deen has a unbroken chain of collection of Hadith which can be traced back to the prophet saws. So any Hadith seems dubious or does not fit with principles of Islam or reason and logic. It means there’s a weak link in the chain that needs to be investigated.

I never give positive consideration to any hadith that demeans women or doesn't have the ring of truth to it. One of the things the Prophet said in his old age is that he felt (I'm paraphrasing) apprehensive of scholars who would come after him and who would misrepresent the truth or lead people down the wrong way. He saw it as a real threat. The Quran talks about justice to women. Even in the Quran, some things don't set well, unless we remember that those were different times. Especially the idea that women can be forced into sex with the men who capture them in a war, and it's alright for men to do that. I have never gotten a decent explanation for that one. So, I personally think that every detail in the Quran does not apply to today, but the principle does. There's a well-known speaker who defends the taking of women slaves in war even today. I'm glad you are speaking out about these things. It's well-known that when the Crusaders invaded Jerusalem, Muslim women killed themselves rather than be assaulted. Someone has to reconcile these two things. Muslim men would surely not like what happens to their women if they don't win the war. This discrepancy is very troubling. Since there is no compulsion in religion, it can't be explained away that the non-Muslim women at the time of the Prophet were idolatresses, so deserved to be raped. Anyhow, if you can shed light on this, or if you already have, please do so and let us know where we can find it. Thanks for your videos.

@@hokumaaxundova2709 Sorry I don't understand your argument. As I said in my previous post God put the blame on Eve, Adam and Satan. No one got off their misdeeds. I have personally never heard a Christian say that periods are a punishment from God though I am sure some have but we see all bad things such as disease and death as been judgement from God for what Adam and Eve did in the garden. It is what we refer to as the fall. But God new this is what would happen and he has made provision to deal with the fall and restore us back to fellowship with the Father. Look at these verses from the Book of Romans "Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And also "18 Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. 19 For as by the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man's obedience the many will be made righteous. 20 Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, 21 so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

But of course as is now commonly known the Quran hasn't been preserved. Regarding the hadith, my opinion is that it should be totally dropped by Islam - it is from there that you get a lot of your embarrassing beliefs. Some of them are not embarrassing but shocking and some of those from the ones that are considered the good hadith. In your heart of heart of hearts you know I am right. On the question of the Quran containing variants, I don't have a problem with it having them because all ancient manuscripts have errors creep in. It happened with the old Greek writings such as Homer, it happened with my Bible, and it even happened with more modern works such as Shakespeare. With care most of those can be removed if you have enough material to work with. The problem for Islam is that it states this "It is an incontrovertible historical truth that the text of the Glorious Quran extant today is, syllable for syllable, exactly the same as the Prophet (p) had offered to the world as the Word of God." This quote is from this website can be found here www.whyislam.org/on-faith/the-preservation/ . That creates a problem for Islam.

Sura 2.282 states that if two men are not available to be a witness then you can have 1 man and 2 women instead. It says in case one of the women forgets something. Quran was meant to be preserved. Prophets' followers took it seriously and they were people who learnt entire Quran by heart, passed on to next generation and finally was made in to written scripture. Hadith does not have such history. It was written by few and that too almost 300 years after Prophets death. So at least 6 generations had already passed and when it was passed on to the author, it was individual perception of events and saying of prophets. Total authenticity of hadith is in question since followers did not care for it to be preserved unlike the Quran.

Thank you so much for the explanation and for highlighting some of these weaker hadiths. I always felt some of the hadiths are used in negative ways just to protect individual benefits. It's good you are promoting it, a good Muslim should always think and ponder over the outlandish hadiths attributed to our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Definitely, women deserve a very respectable place in society as well as in a family.

The last sermon of the Prophet Muhammad s.a.w reminds us that Muslim women must be protected. Many rights of women are recognised in Islam. For instance, Islam is the first religion which recognises the right of a wife to seek for dissolution of marriage. The woman if not married is entitled to receive maintenance from her father and brothers until she marries. Upon, marriage, the duty is vested to the husband. Any money and property earn belong to her exclusively. Any inheritance received belongs to her exclusively. If the woman has talents which benefit the community, we must promote her. This is what the Prophet Muhammad s.a.w did to Sayidatina Aishah r.a who was one of the greatest Islamic jurists. In essence, the main concern is cultural definition of women roles which may be inline or not with Islam.

Brothers in the faith. The Hadif is a measure to limit woman from the freedoms they deserve as equal compliments too the male counterparts. I'm a firm believer that woman have just an equal role in the pursuance of spiritual truths. This doesn't only state in dress or attire but the administration of duties of Imans in Mosque. Always remember Allah created men and women as helpers for one another's successful outcomes. Helpers and compliments work together in unison as a coercive unit in togetherness. I have always been a defender, support and a friend too those fellow sisters whom there's been a unique relationship in intimate forethoughtfulness as a understanding compliment in shared visionary perspectives. I feel as do so many other woman that one's body is a precious temple in terms of the Amighty. Men need too respect them as equals and not as sexual objects for their personal enticement. The hair covering is meant to not arouse impure thoughts from men. A woman's hair connotes towards other areas of a females body that might cause men's advancement in forms of harassment. In certain Muslim dominated cultures unfair practices are seen in subjectifying woman in extreme hot weathered climates to harsh principles of total clothing including veiled faces and full length clothing. In fact it's a means of extreme measures of torture likened towards Asian dynasties that bonded the feet of woman in cutting of the circulation towards reducing feet growth which was considered as unattractiveness too their fellow male counterparts. So these and other measures from a vast diaspora of regional areas are manipulative tactics of limiting the progressive aims of the conservative Muslim woman's rights as conjoined member communities as equal educators in pursuance of spiritual truths. I believe in unity in mind and thought from all members in societal structures encompassing diverse backgrounds especially from those I share a unique unioned fellowship. Women are the main source of my strength and integrity of remaining a Guardian for their rights and advancement in life. These principles were inculcated in me from my Maternal Mother and sister Siblings but most importantly the woman I love so dearly that is a constant thought each day even when we're apart in different houses of dwelling spaces. I await anxiously for her arrival each day with loving expectations. Men always remember the woman your blessed in conjoined fellowship unioned relationship and the pursuit of objectives as relative equally visionary paths of togetherness. Never subjectify them to cruel standards you would never personally except as a norm in your own life. Treat your blessed mate's as instrumental partners in establishing goals and objectives for increased awareness that although we're made differently physically but our mental capacity reflects and exemplifies spiritual truths of maturity in terms of togetherness. Please remain in faith, hope and love. All in pursuance in the exquisite delight in the abundance of peace for all our precious midst communities.

@lunarsensitive1

I know this is an old question but to answer you, a hadith is considered authentic mainly because there is a clear chain of narration. Like, Person A heard from Person B who heard from Person C who heard from Person D who heard from the Prophet (SAW). The people in the chain have to be trustworthy and there can't be any gaps in the chain, as in if Person B has not been identified, for example. Another condition is that it can't contradict the Quran.

That said I think he fails and in fact throws a light on these issues. To hear that there are more problem Hadiths than positive ones. To imply that scholars were influenced in their decisions on what were good Hadiths and which ones were poor hadiths by the times they were in and what was acceptable at the time throws into doubt all of the system used. The Follower of Islam tend to stick with something unQuranic because they relied the Scholar and the Leader of Islam too much and follow anything by their Leader blindly without Questioning them. Why? Because the follower especially the villager thinks imam, sheikh, ulama, ustaz, etc as pious person that made not a mistakes. The Follower even gone too far as even said the religious person is not touched by sin.. And even worse some sincere believer fall to the abyss of idolatry because of heart that long for goodness but adoring the God's creation and even asking their leader to pray for them while they may pray themselves, God is All Hearing and far from Deaf. God's know what was hidden inside their chest. I myself once thinks Quran is not complete and need a Hadith to explain the detail while the Quran denied this fact since the Quran claim the Book itself is Perfect as a sole guidance and reasoning for those who use their thinking.. Just to name few unspeakable act from Muslim's religious scholar that made the Hadith as priority while Quran is number 2.. They even as far to say whoever disbelieve Hadith is Kafir while the Quran claims those who reject the Quran is Kafir which contradicts the religious leaders saying. Even worsening they even say the average person has no right to talks about religion which is contradicts the Quran that encourage every reader to use AQL (thinking, reasons). The reason mainly because the average person don't understand Arabic and may in the wrong path by relying on translation which once again contradicts their action by making the Hadith as priority and source inside of Islam. Another error they made is to reject any quotation Made by honest person that has learned the truth, and even go far to misinterpret the meaning of Quran by relying Hadith that has no place in Quran to be mentioned but Invention according to Quran. They even went above to say whoever sharing surah from the Quran is not on the right path but the Hadith follower is on the right path. Again, the only Hadith that Allah approved is the Quran itself, not another source as a sole guidance. On Jumaat Solat, the imam always warn the audience not to believe a person that follow the Quran, they said this is a new religion. It is shocking to heard this myself. Why the person who rely on Quran is guilty and at fault? Doesn't the Quran encourage every reader to think and learn and study the Quran and reason with the content inside of Quran? After that, wasn't the Quran said the reader may choose to believe or reject the Quran and at the same time offer a blissful reward for the believers while the rejector will be punished on fire? Strangely why almost all of our religious scholar teach the follower like that? Isn't not they claim themselves as a Muslim and even Did testify that they Believe in Quran and not the Hadith? If we are following One God, surely we just only need the Quran as a guidance. And you have the right to choose and decide which one is the True Path if you are being HONEST to Yourself!

It then goes on to try and interpret what "cut" means. i was told that we are not allowed to make our own interpretations of the Quran but to obey directly what it says. this makes sense as otherwise there would be no consistency in Islam. i believe that if Allah decreed in the Quran to "cut" someones hands off, it means exactly that. to believe otherwise opens the door for people to change the meaning of verses to better suit their own beliefs.

As Muslims we have to stop play around and speak from both side of our mouth. DR Shabir is another scholar who is caught in between. Why dont we refer to Quran to get our answers Quran has mentioned Hadith several times and forbids you from following them except from احسن الحدیث wich is Quran irself. We should though away and reject all Hadith all at once and hold holly Quran that is the word of Allah and preserved by him as the only source of our religious law and guidance.

@@nestcanz Neither is Hadith i.e speech/narration. Hence it is called حديث. It is narrated. So what you earlier said is irrelevant, the Hadith is not ink and paper either. Since the oldest Quran is from the 8th century and so are the oldest collection of Hadith, you literally can leave the Quran. The same reason you reject Hadith, the same reason should be applied to the Quran using your logic. You literally refuted yourself, twice 👏👏👏 Congratulations. FYI, we know the entire Quran was written by the Sahaba 2 years after the Prophets ﷺ death. You don't, you don't even know who the Sahaba are. We have chains of narrations (10 in total) from the Quran going back to the Rasul ﷺ and multiple in Hadith. That is how Islamic knowledge is preserved. " *He who obeys the Messenger has obeyed Allah* ; but those who turn away - We have not sent you over them as a guardian." Surah An Nisa v 80 "Similarly (to complete My Blessings on you) We have sent among you a Messenger (Muhammad ) of your own, reciting to you Our Verses (the Quran) and *sanctifying you* ,and *teaching you the Book* (the Quran) and *the Hikmah* (i.e. Sunnah, Islamic laws and Fiqh - jurisprudence), and *teaching you that which you used not to know* ."- 2:151 Surah An Nahl verse 44 ( interpretation of the meaning) "With clear signs and Books (We sent the Messengers). And We have also sent down unto you (O Muhammad ) the reminder and the advice (the Quran), *that you may explain clearly to men what is sent down to them, and that they may give thought* ." Don't quote random verses from the Quran when you do not know the Quran or even basic arabic. I don't have time to lecture you anymore. You refuted yourself and there is no reason why i should convince and non Muslim about something so clear. Either accept Islam or don't, it is up to you. Bye.

Thirdly, this program is dealing with only what seems to be controversial issues thus creating confusion to the most who know something next to nothing about the basics. Pls if you have questions ask the scholars. Don't take Islamic knowledge from Havard or Yale .( orientalist) rather ask the scholars if Don't know . May Allah guide us all. Amin.

@@muhammadjoshua7464 Mohammad, how do you determine what was meant for the culture at that time (7th century arabia) and what needs to be followed today? i was told that the quran is eternal and that everything in it is everlasting. doesnt this mean that everything in it needs to be followed today? if you are allowed to say that something only applied to the culture of the 7th century, why can you not apply this thinking to anything in the hadiths. maybe all of it only applied to 7th century arabs. how do you know the difference? thanks
@acesin-et7pp
@acesin-et7pp 4 жыл бұрын
@@maxq4958 well there are two things. 1. Quran. It is eternal and all the things mentioned are to be strictly followed. Quran focusses on broader aspects of life including, rulings on important subjects which are meant for smooth running of a society. Quran doesnt discuss any such topics which are cultural based and subject to changes. e;g Quran discusses what food is halal or permissible. however, quran doesnt mention how to eat like use hands or spoon, or fork whatever. That type of information we get mostly from Prophet muhammad's (PBHM) personal life. So there is no dispute on what Quran mentions. The differences occur only in Hadees. Well the problem with Hadees is multiple people saw prophet Muhammad doing the same thing and they related what they saw in different contexts. that is why we have multiple chain of narrations. Again the chain can be weak or strong. E;g the hadees narrated by very close companions and wives are considered Strong hadees and there are no doubts about that. A lot of hadees are from who were the enemies or from very far sources.such hadees are called weak hadees. The collectors of hadees who compiled them into books were not that critical about the sources. So they included almost all the narrations. It is for the later scholars to debate on the huge data base they left.

@@sumanmiah8840 Hello Suman. I totally agree that we here in the western world have forgotten how to be the protectors of women and how to be a gentlemen and treat women correctly. i think the problem with western people when it comes to Islam is the appearance of inequality (which may be untrue, i am still learning). this comes apparently from the verses in the Quran and hadiths that seem to limit women much more than men, that mention that it is ok to beat your wife, that a women is worth 1/2 of a man legally, When Mohamed mentions that Allah has made women inferior to men mentally and spiritually, that the majority of hell is occupied by women who did not obey their men....and so forth. in the modern day, these can be interpreted as anti-women. i have also researched subjects such as women in heaven. there are many Quranic verses and hadiths that deal with a mans reward in heaven, but it is hard to find anything that mentions what a woman gets in heaven. do you have any Quranic verses that you can point me to? I also agree with you about the feminist movement. it is one of things that is destroying western civilization. this is discussion is very troublesome as it presents a difficult dichotomy: either 1) All these difficult hadiths only applied to arabia 1400 years ago (the question then would be would all knowing Allah make something that was only valid to a small amount people, and only valid for their culture 1400 years ago), or 2) Allah intended us to live our lives as instructed by Mohamed. this would obviously include all of the Quranic instructions and evidently what is in the authentic hadiths thanks

Why do Muslim women create their own glass ceiling. It seems like Mohammed would want every human being to reach thier full potential. Democracy is the only tool,that can lead people (through whatever religious path you take) to spiritual connection. Maybe some people need rules, and some need guidance,and some need expanding their mind with creativity and objectivity.

Isn't Dr. Shabbir taking these hadithes too literally ? I am no scholar but "Religious Belief" in it self is about being more open minded about metaphysical, symbolic ideas. Though I feel he isn't giving a strong verdict on these Hadithes either. But asking question about these topics - without presenting a strong verdict about these "Problematic Hadith", what to do about them and what it means for the authenticity of other Islamic narratives - Isn't that helpful. Is it only acceptable if it is compatible with our society today ? Mind you, Islam is neither about 570 nor 2019. It's narrations must be loosely interpreted enough to be compatible with long stretch of time AND at the same time not loose it's integrity.
