Mike, you could probably make 2 hour videos and people would still watch to the end. There’s a behind the scenes quality to these videos which is priceless. It’s nice Real life videos instead of dramatized stuff that gets put on TV. I’ll watch two hour long videos myself on either spiritual topics or towing videos.

Well done Mike, The compassion you have for your animals is evident. Here in Texas we have the opposite problem; we have to find ways to keep our calves cool when it gets too hot; they will react the same way - laying out, heavy breathing, not moving; they have trouble staying cool when they are young.

Thanks for showing how it really is, Mike. Not many people had the privilege of growing up with relatives who were farmers/ranchers, and this is a great way of showing "how it really is". At least calf pulls are done in a different way (seriously, thank God they are), as I remember seeing the cow brought over by the barn, and the ropes were pulled over an old swing set bar (like a swing set for kids) to give the leverage to pull the calf out. This was back in the mid-80s mind you, when I was the age of your daughters. But I tell you, that's a sight (sights... too many) that I have never forgotten.

I believe nearly everyone wants what's best for our animals, with the least amount of human "assistance", whether it's physical or administrative, if ya follow me there. I was hoping that when ya opened the Hot Box that last time, she would be standing up, all toasty warm and ready to find Mom and a lil Easter Dinner. Didn't happen, and she's blessed in your continuing efforts to get the issue(s) under control. You're a great rancher, Mike. My question is based on what you said about Mom possibly having a issue with her colostrum. Will the calf be your first bottle calf of the 2020 Calving Season!?! Or can Mom be treated, then continue with calf alongside afterwards? Well, I'm gonna shut this Word Fit down by thanking you for this daily delve into y'all's lives, and a few words that sum up yesterday, IMHO. They are,...Love, Forgiveness, Faith, Hope & Instant Eternity. See ya tomorrow...!

God bless you for caring so much for the babies that wouldn't survive without your help. I grew up on a farm and I know how fragile calves are at birth and being born out of doors in below freezing temperatures amasses me! We had a box stall in the dairy barn for birthing 55 degrees. Here in iowa, we are concerned with clostridol scours which occur between 7 and 14 days old. I will make every calf get up and show me that they are not compromised.
@OurWyomingLife4 жыл бұрын
Yup. Great plan. They may give you a dirty look lol
@timgilchrist30654 жыл бұрын
@@OurWyomingLife those scours don't show signs until all at once and if you don't catch it right off the bat, it is too late to reverse. There is a vaccine you can give the cows prior to calving, but my experience is that running them through the chute that close to calving doesn't give the cows a chance to calm down and it makes them more cranky when they calve. Mud is the main culprit, so having calves on frozen ground is more desirable to me as apposed to mud. Which is an experience you don't have to deal with.

My great grandfather Tosten Springen homesteaded south of Gillette at a place he named Hilight. I have photos of him and his wife Carrie standing in front of the Hilight Wyo post office. He was the postmaster. He and all of his kids had homesteads in the Hilight area. I have many photos pre 1914 of Gillette, and I still receive a oil check once a month from all the effort and work of my grand parents. Gillette is a special place to me and I stop at the Gillette cemetery every time I visit Gillette to pay respects to my family.
