The first (experimental) high-bypass turbofan engine was built and run on February 13, 1964 by AVCO-Lycoming. Shortly after, the General Electric TF39 became the first production model, designed to power the Lockheed C-5 Galaxy military transport aircraft. The windmilling fan was a major issue when it was discovered that the engine-driven OIL PUMP was not driven by the high-bypass shaft, and thus the bearings were starved as the first C-5 test aircraft blades revolved with the wind on the ramp at Edwards AFB.

Yes indeed and he along with Gulf Air have been really great to us. So far we've produced 3 films with the airlines, more recently a new one on their A321NEO... we would have been able to do more if it hadn't been for covid.

Absolutely amazing video. I have never seen how delivery of a new airplane is conducted. Quite a grand event. Great pilot! I'd fly with him any time.

It would be nice if the captain had a wheel well camera so he could see pins have been pulled.

That’s why they show them to the pilot. He knows how many pins there are, and if he sees that many, he knows they are all out.

So they don’t just toss you the keys and wish you all the best? Guess I’ve never taken delivery of a jet. PS. Love the livery. Also really enjoyed my visit to Bahrain a few years ago for F1.
@j2simpso

They used to do that but I hear one time when they did it the keys fell down into the gutter and they couldn't start the plane. Hence why they don't do that anymore! 😅

Well it wasn't a jet but I was at the acceptance meeting when our customer (JAL) purchased the first of 27 Baron's from Beechcraft, it was weird they go through all of this paperwork and we sit for about 15min for the money transfer and it's all done!

I’ve done acceptance flights for my airline, and yes they do give you keys. It’s symbolic, but sure is a nice souvenir.

I don't know why, but I love seeing modern aircraft in heritage livery. BA did it a few years ago, the 747-436 in the old BOAC was a thing of beauty.

When they build a new plane does the factory do any test flights before they take delivery?

Every plane has to be certified before delivery, that the certification process involves test flights etc
@justplanes

Yes absolutely Will. Often you see them test flying it before its even painted.

This is probably the silliest question possible, considering this is a brand new 787, but do brand new aircraft like this have a "new aircraft smell", like a new car?

Yes, I flew on a new 737 several years ago. Was it’s first revenue flight. Definitely had that new plane smell!
@udayjohn5623

Perhaps they would have that New Smell of the Seats and the Rest of the Body. When passengers start coming in, the smell will stick to their clothing and diminishes with time. The smell on the body disappears during the maintenance process.😄😄😂
