Thank goodness for you! When my mom was a victim of the Grandma Scam the bank manager asked “If I may ask, what is the money for?” she said “no you may not ask me about my money”, withdrew $27,000 and shipped it by FedEx ☹️ which was her 4th shipment, for a grand total of $50,000. All done while her granddaughter was safe and sound in her own home. I wish the bank had notified my brother (the other name on her account) when she withdrew a second large amount in two days 🫤 Keep asking! Send alerts out! Post signs? @@Kat.Evangeline14 Unfortunately that isn't always an option. Some people receive calls from unknown numbers for work, and they have to answer it. Like people who work in real estate or have their own business like artists and contractors... not taking the call could mean losing money. Then you have some people who work for smaller company's that cannot afford to get each person a work phone, and they have to use their personal phones. While it is nice to say that the answer is simple, just don't answer it, that isn't realistic for many people. They should make it a law, that anyone buying a gift card should be asked if they are using it to refund an over payment, and if they are, they should be supplied with a leaflet or a hotline number to explain that it is a scam and how it works, and also that a genuine company would never ever ask for payment in gift card vouchers. It wouldn't be hard to do. They could pretty much eradicate this kind of scam over night if the education was available easily for potential victims. It’s the toxic culture of their ‘work’ (scam) place. I worked in legitimate call centres for years and in places with unhappy staff, rudeness to the customers was contagious. People would brag about how they mouthed off to a difficult customer and everyone is always listening. Nice places with a positive atmosphere = polite and helpful staff. I can totally see how the scammers develop an Us vs Them mentality. It must be a nasty, toxic place to work and in a way, it probably helps them with their consciences.

The biggest reason these scammers aren't stopped is because the police there are on the take. Plus the law in India is: IF you've been scammed by a call from there, to prove your case as a victim you HAVE to psychically go to Inda. Most victims can NOT afford that. The even larger issue is the US government allowing VoIP providers leeway and allowing providers to continue unregulated. VoIP providers allow access for their systems to be abused by scammers and THEY typically refuse to shut numbers and access down. Even though they know thru call traffic and complaints the number they are providing is being used to commit crimes. SMDH.
