Let's cover how I handled a difficult architectural photoshoot working against the clock. How to price your work. How to work with your client and how to make the most of a tough situation.
A true professional worth their fee is capable of delivering quality photos inspite of adverse conditions. In this video I'll discuss various aspects of this recent shoot and share tips to help level up your architectural photography.
If you want to see how I post produce these images, just write "post production" in the comments, and if I get enough requests I'll put a follow up vid together and answer any other questions you may have.

Thanks for this, really great info. I just came back from my first gig, client needed 30-50 shots, I had 1500 (overshooting, bracketed, HDR panos, tons of burst photos with people motion blurred for client's needs). People skills really are critical! If I wasn't discrete and kind towards staff and the guests as the hotel is quite expensive , I'd have been shown the door very early into the shoot. If I hadn't seen your videos about Lumenzia , I'd be pullng my hair out because I tried Aurora, Luminar, Lightroom... none of them do a perfect job. PS and luminosty masks allow the finest control and when pulled off properly, look like an actual single shot photo. And one thing that didn't help was me not noticing in-camera how a polarizing filter may clash with huge glass panels which have their own polarization to protect from the sun. That was really fun to fix in post. This gig had me removing objects and fixing stuff I never dreamed of doing, and it's only my first one. Tough stuff :) So here's another huge thanks for this and your main channel, and sharing info selflessly like this.

I love that you shared these details which are normally left out in a regular tutorial! I recently started to shoot landscape architectural phtography, mostly for real estate developers, designers, contractors, and I do have similar experiences. I agree that the secret and value for a pro lies in things like people skills, site preperation and quick decision making. Thank you!

Anthony, thanks so much for sharing the details of your process. Would love to see what method you used to blend the different exposures or recover detail from single shots. In previous videos you have shown your process with Lightroom and Aurora for HDR as well as luminosity blending using Lumenzia. Curious about what you did here. Thanks again!
@archiphoto
@archiphoto Жыл бұрын
Thanks Curt. Yes, I use a variety of techniques for highlight recovery and expanding the dynamic range in a way that resembles what the human eye sees, rather than the camera's sensor. Everything seen here in this vid is as shot straight out of camera. For the most part, the editing here will likely be off single frames rather than brackets.

Just to point out that even though you don't use tilt shift lenses because of your presonal reasons, you really cannot argue that you don't have any useful benefits of using them. I too know it's much slower process but even if you can get away with the tilting in post, you cannot shift your view via the shift function of the lens in post. That is a real benefit too of the ts-lenses and sometimes you really need it. Especially in interior shots. :)

I want to thank for sharing all your knowledge with us. I have few questions if you could find the time to answer or make a video on it I would appreciate it. How would you recommend knowing what you know now how to get started in architectural photography? I have followed you from your other KZbin channel and noticed hear you are using photoshop and not Luminar, would you recommend both programs or is Luminar enough to start? Just for curiosity did you go to school or self taught? Want to Thank You again David

Hi, sorry for more questions but what what do you set the photo quality to when you send your proofs to clients so that they don't just take the photo :)
@archiphoto
@archiphoto Жыл бұрын
I use Mogrify for Lightroom. Not super straight forward to set up but so worth it. I resize, add borders, a light watermark and the filename gets added to the bottom border strip to make it easy for the client to reference and further protect your image.

Hi, another great video. I've got 2 questions, do you provide your clients with a photography contract to sign, if so what would you include. Also what software do you use to transfer the photos to the clients ie the finished photos, thank you

Hi mate. Been a while since I installed mogrify so I can't quite remember. I just know it wasn't the easiest thing to set up. There was more reading of instructions online than I usually like 🙄. I'm going to build a new system march/April. When I do I'll need to reinstall. I'll try to remember to record the steps.
