I grew up in Northern Ontario, Canada and I've always felt like I've been missing a part of myself. My father wasn't in the picture so I was raised by my white mother. Being in a predominantly white community, I also never knew any black people growing up and I felt very uncomfortable with my appearance because the beauty standards were white. I hope one day I'll get to visit Ghana and specifically the village where my dad is from. This video is beautiful, I only hope my return to Africa will be as wonderful

You will not be disappointed. Africa is magnificent. The people are wonderful. I've lived my whole life in Southern Africa, except going back to my ancestral roots in the UK for 3 years. A good experience which only made me appreciate living in Africa even more. Do some living in Africa mate.

I feel you, I'm mixed too and lived in a area where besides me there was only 4 other black people and 2 of them where my siblings, in school bullying usually hit the people that stand out and I was bullied like crazy for being darker skinned, my mom was in Zimbabwe trying to collect money to go get me and my siblings back from my dad, I ended up going to her in Zimbabwe and loved it, I felt so at home. Meeting my grandparents was out of this world, I met my grandmother for the first time since I was born. I literally cried like crazy. If you get the chance GO! I learnt so much about my country/culture/history.

I appreciate and respect your love for your native land and also your husband. I can tell how excited you are/were to share this with him. Its nice to see a happy Zimbabwean among the perenially bitter lot on the internet who makes us feel like its a sin to be proud of your country. I have always been proud of my culture and roots, doing the best I can to portray the positives. Culture is a separate thing from the Economy and Politics. Loving your culture/roots doesn't mean you also love the politics.Culture is who you are, where you come from, your motherland, identity and roots. You cannot wash away your Zimbabweanness. People will always ask you where you are from, and your conscience will give in. Because how long can a man pretend to be what he is not.

So on point. I am fiercely Zimbabwean and I became like this after I left home.
