Price? I watched your video all the way through expecting to hear what they cost. Why do an extensive review and not mention the price for these machines? Or did I miss something? I didn't want to have to go into the manufacturer's website but I guess I will.
@JohnBuildsIt2 жыл бұрын
@@lesliehampton5458 because prices change, there’s sales, etc. I don’t see the point in stating a price in a permanent video that can’t be unsaid. They’ve already gone up in price quite a bit since I bought them.

I had this planer for one month and a sprocket broke on the planer while doing routine tasks on hard maple. After 2 months of dealing with Laguna customer service, my shop is down because my brand new planer is in pieces waiting for a part. Mind you it is a part that is in the planer in 3-4 places so its not like its a rare entity for this machine. Just a cautionary tale. I liked it when it was working
@JohnBuildsIt2 жыл бұрын
Oh wow that stinks! New part on the way and just taking a while, or not having good communication with them?

@@JohnBuildsIt Still waiting 3 months later on parts for a brand new planer. They basically just sent me the policy and sadi deal with it. I will never buy another laguna tool. I was happy with the initial quality but I had heard of their poor customer service and well...here it is. They should take a planer apart and sent the parts or send a new one. Literally cannot believe this company is this bad.

Hey, thanks for the great overview of these tools. I have been eyeing the JX8 and looking to store it under a workbench when not in use (small shop and can't keep it out full-time). I have been trying to figure out the max height clearance this would need to live under the bench. Looking at the manual and website it says, 26-1/2" approximate but looking at the photos and in your video i am wondering if the knob/handle on the top of the fence is accounted in that max height. Is there any way you could verify this height for me? Thanks so much and keep making the great content, I have so many great ideas from your stuff!

I ordered my JX8 in July and got it in October. Unfortunately I was in an auto accident and still have limited use of my right hand so it still sits in my garage. At 500lbs, it's a bit of work to get into the basement. It would have been nice to see the unboxing, like you did on the PX16. The JX8 has to be very top heavy and I would have liked to see better shots so I know better how to handle it. Thanks for the review. It was useful.
@JohnBuildsIt2 жыл бұрын
It was basically crated just like the planer. But you’re right, a jointer is super awkward to move due to its shape. Going downstairs does not sound fun at all. We got it unloaded out of my truck with just 2 of us but I’d definitely recommend a couple more helpers
@kwilliams22392 жыл бұрын
It's a walk-out basement but the entrance is in the back of the house and down the floor, with really rough ground between. I generally work alone so I need both hands. I've moved a Revo 18/36 lathe and 18BX bandsaw myself so I know how to move heavy stuff. The bandsaw came on its back and the lathe came in several pieces, packed like an Ikea bookshelf. The top-heavy jointer may cause problems. Thanks for the video.
