There is absolutely nothing wrong with appreciating the upper end of photography. Max out the slider of the aesthetics bar, the image quality bar, the user experience bar... True luxury. This is the Rolls Royce of cameras. You earned this Thomas, with your content and your dedication to the craft. Hasselblad saw potential in you, and even if it is an ad for them, take the benefit because they WANT photographers of your reach, charisma, and caliber to represent their brand. Love it for us. Hold one of the most beautiful functional pieces of art ever made. Let us live the dream through you!

What a camera Tom - we could say you're lucky, but as Gary Player once said "The more I practice the luckier I get." and you've done your fair share of practice so this gift is well deserved. I love my Hasselblad 500 C/M which is an absolute joy to use and inspires me to go out. I've not long bought a Z8 too, which was my dream camera having been a Nikon user for all of my 35 year photography adventure. But, like you say, gear is largely irrelevant, it just needs to give you that desire to get out, explore and discover.

I've owned the X2D since it was released (also owned it predecessors). The X2D is probably the finest and most complete camera ever! The first time I tried out the 7 stop image stabilization at 1/6 sec. and got a perfectly sharp image I almost peed my pants! In every way this camera is so well thought out and engineered it's a shame it's built by hand (robots never have a bad day, don't have girl friend problems and didn't drink too much the night before). They do one thing and do it so well we are close to manufacturing perfection. Wish H could afford it. Nuff said - buy it - you'll love it!

Great video Thomas and I can understand your excitement with the new camera as I have just won a new campervan and I'm now itching to get out in it, and like you say, photography is mainly about the experience, being out in nature, seeing places you would never go to if it wasn't for our cameras. I can be a lazy photographer and not get up or go out at times, so this new camper will give me that added incentive to get out and enjoy what the world has to offer. And on a side note, a group of us are off to Iceland next week and I can't wait. Again great video and congrats on the camera Thomas, take care, Steve.

Just in case there will be a long term use review of this magnificent object here’s some stuff I’d like to know: - How does the workflow differ from other dslrs? Does it encourage a slower, more considerate approach (or faster, less considerate?), or is it mostly similar? - Do you feel like you are making use of the extra megapixels and does it influence the way you frame up shots with always being able to choose a different aspect of the image/different composition later on? Are you even thinking of the extra megapixels when making a composition? - Somewhat following up the previous question: do the extra megapixels make you more careless with your composition because you can always make it right later? - Does the range and price (!) of available lenses bother you or would you be willing to fully commit and have this as your only digital camera? - Do you enjoy using it? More or less than the Nikon? Why? That’s all. Cheers and thanks. :)

Thomas definitely deserves this gift. For the rest of us, the £ 18 000 for kit plus 20-35 lens would buy a couple or three awesome trips, to Africa, Galapagos, Patagonia. And since 90+% of resulting photographs will only ever be seen on computer monitors, often degraded by websites, a crop sensor of mft kit will likely deliver memorable images.

What a surprise this video was! Before watching your video I had watched James Popsys video showing his new camera- a Hasselblad explorer (?, the same that you now have). I thought “oh no, another photographer moaning about that he has been given a 🙌🏻 camera”. Then it turned out that you were making the video in Bohuslän where I live, and you visited places I’ve been to recently and even photographed the same hut (the one on the rocks in Lysekil). It was great to see your photos and to see you struggle with the conditions of harsh/flat light. That flat light drives me nuts 😅 and we have so often. The nature can be beautiful but if there’s no light- it’s difficult! On top of that I’m a beginner at photography with very limited experience. Oh, and no Hasselblad. I wish Hasselblad gave me a camera, I even live in Gothenburg so I can come and grab the new camera in 20 minutes! Just saying… You are one lucky man and you really deserve that beautiful camera! It was great to see the joy and love in your eyes!! Still think Hasselblad should consider giving me a camera, imagine following my improvement with photography, I would certainly prove everyone that says “it’s not about the gear” wrong 😉❤️

Great vid - very different to the "normal" landscape trips and you're right: it's the places photography take you that matter, not so much the gear (although the gear does tickle you a bit!). On another note, you sail past a German-flagged black-hulled, gaff-rigged ketch at 9mins 40 secs: if it was named Nelly Mathilde, brought back some memories - I was one of 4 crew bringing it back from Antigua to Falmouth in 1996!!
