This video is a comprehensive walk through of the broken arrow trail from a modified AWD perspective. (3.5" Lifted Honda Passport on 32.1" tires)
Here's some information that you might find helpful
-This trail is a tourist attraction that is maintained by the Pink Jeep Tours. Show them respect and consideration. Know your limits (your driving skill and your vehicles mechanical limits), so that you don't block the trail.
-Because of the above tip, it's not a good idea to run a large convoy. I'd say run in pairs or three vehicles at the most. I also think it would have been helpful if I had someone along to spot for me, so I also recommend not running this trail alone (for your first time).
-There's no staging (airing down, or meeting up with friends) on the road leading up to Broken arrow. Either find some place before you enter, or get past the gate keeper and find a large area to air down.
-The harder sections are Submarine Rock and the Slick Rock sections of the Devil's Staircase

The Passport had to do most of the work, because I’m not the guy to “SEND IT” and risk trail or suspension damage. I guess I’m doing something right since 130k miles with nothing broken from driving over obstacles, but I bet my driving looks lame to a lot of people 🤣 with all the wheel screeching 😂

Noted and mostly agree regarding your assessment of the KZbin auto journalists. I am an odd duck I grew up in an import service shop that also built race cars but the brand that we worked on has not been sold United States since he early 1990s there are very few of them still out on the roads so I just drive the right tool for the job. Noot really a fanboy towards anyone make or model. I drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee because I needed something bigger with a slightly more capability than my Ford Bronco Sport and it fit the bill on the day I needed to buy. Now I find myself gravitating towards a 4x4 full-size van as I still need more storage capacity since I’m losing my storage location and I’m full time on the road. Keep up the good work love your assessments of various trails.

Sweet run! It looks like your Honda did that without a hiccup but I'm with you that I'd be nervous without an experienced spotter. Wasting Time in The Woods is a hilarious channel and I wasn't surprised that he turned around given stock height with +1" tires, stock skids, and stock bumper. He has done a +3" Ironman lift since then so maybe we will see him have another go.

I'm renting a Rubicon 4xe in January and I reserved a spot at Soldiers Pass - I am so excited. What is your recommendation for trail GPS apps? I'm thinking of OnX Offroad because it works on CarPlay.
@JonDZ_Adventuring

Hey thanks Dips! As far as GPS apps, I really don’t like ONx. The difficulty ratings are not accurate and all the trails on the map are colored blue. I personally research my trails with the TrailsOffroad website and app and then upload things to GAIA GPS, however, TrailsOffroad now works with apple car play.

1.) Think about all the driving involved getting to my destinations. 2.) I won’t be happy daily driving a body on frame. 3.) I used to drive a capable 4WD with a rear locker. I realized I wasn’t able to make the compromise for more capability 4.) most 4WDs start breaking one difficulty higher than I currently traverse, I want no part of that.

How much in mileage did you lose with the lift & tires?
@JonDZ_Adventuring
@JonDZ_Adventuring Жыл бұрын
Lift, nothing noticeable. Tires, extra weight, and roof mods will make the most difference. Bigger A/T Tires create more friction, roof mods increase wind drag, the extra weight requires more work to maintain same speed. The faster you go, MPGs get exponentially worse. If I cruise at 65 mph, I’ll get 22-23 mpg highway. If I cruise at 75mph I’m getting 17-19 mpg.

@JonDZ_Adventuring
@JonDZ_Adventuring 10 ай бұрын
Then I’d have to stress about daily driving a 4runner or Wrangler. Every day life would be a struggle, instead of the 3 hours hanging out on this trail. Also, I’d still have upgrade them to have more ground clearance, so they. don’t scrape going to the submarine rock.

@@JonDZ_Adventuring Have you looked at the diesel Wrangler? My buddy got one last year. Just the base model and that thing goes pretty much everywhere. He’s taken it all over Moab, and there is so much customization you can do to it. You can set it up for all of your needs. He uses it as a daily as well without any issues at all. He gets great mileage and when it’s time to get dirty it doesn’t miss a beat. No stress. Doesn’t get stuck. Climbs up and down pretty much everything.
@JonDZ_Adventuring
@JonDZ_Adventuring 10 ай бұрын
@@r.p.8402 I respect Jeeps for their capability and the JL/JT are decent onroad and a better daily than a 4runner BUT the 2 issues I would have is the wind noise and reliability/cost of repair. That’s where Honda/Toyota shine. The new toyota lineup is intriguing. We know the 3.2L v6 is pretty quick. My plan is to keep the Honda for another 4-6 years and then move onto a quad motor EV, like a Rivian or better. They’re basically super cars and built and geared for 34” tires stock. Currently get over 300 mile range with a roof top tent and overlanding gear while still doing 0-60 in 3 seconds. It’s crazy. I’d imagine something even better with more range will be available by then.
