@@TableTennisDaily in my opinion, Dane is not only a bag of tricks. I love watching his games because he has such an amazing feeling of the ball that he can hit shots in ackward positions and make them effective (well, they could be called "tricks"). You need to have a gift for that, most people have to be in the perfect position to do effective shots (by the book).

The level is sick. The TTD team should be competing internationally. They're that good.
@skakollaettklipp5 ай бұрын
No they are not. Tom Maynard has tried against international competetion but never made it in the rankings. Note that Team Sweden here isn't the team that won the European championship. Per Gerell is ranked perhaps 1000-1500 in the world today today so he has quit from the international scene. Jon Person was in the winning team, he had the same role as Jörgen Persson since they where coaches. He didn't play. In the winning team was indeed Truls Möregårdh who obviously played around a lot here. But also Anton Källberg, Mattias Falk and Kristian Karlsson. TTD is great ambassadors or the sport and I hope they will inspire a new generation of Liam Pitchford and Paul Drinkhalls. But Dan and Tom are not international top players but good enough to teach 99% of the audience - me included - how to play table tennis mean while entertain us!

Well, to an amateur's eyes this probably appears to be on the level the whole way through. But, chaps, I'm not sure that I saw Truls play more than 65%-70% maximum at any point. For the most part he seemed to be playing, what looked to be, at less than 50% effort. Persson never played more than 80% and his effort levels seemed to fluctuate the most out of the 3 Swedes, depending on the situation. Par seemed to have played at about 80% max and he never played less than about 65%-70%. However, Tom shined because Tom enjoys when his opponents can bring pro pace and spin. Tom's blade is full of control and his rubbers have lots of catapult and lots of effortless spin. So, if you hit pro attacks at him, he can counterattack quite well. I saw him struggle to know how to take the initiative and attack with pace and quality though. And that's what holds Tom back the most. I saw him smash it at his opponent's backhand side and then immediately smash it completely to the opponent's forehand side on the following shot. And that's, of course, when his opponent immediately hit a high-arcing loop-drive from deep. And Tom lost the point. That shows me that all Tom really has needed to do is switch to an inner-ALC blade in order to have nearly the same control as his all-wood, whilst gaining extra power that he can tap into when necessary. Then, all he needs to do is start training nothing but how to impart pro pace on the ball when being the first to attack, as well as training to understand the tactics of how to disallow the counterattacks from the opponent once you're the first to attack. If he switches blades and trains that stuff for 3 or 4 months straight, then I truly believe Tom might be able to break through to the bottom of the highest tier of play...OH WAIT, and Tom needs to work on disguising his serves by making them all look the same, which really requires as little racket movement as you can manage. If you watch the video Dan did with Werner recently, then you will learn exactly how the serve disguises are done properly. So many players seem to focus on the disguises coming from the follow-through and they're actually irrelevant to a pro player UNLESS you disguise your backswing and your contact motion by starting them all the exact same way, shortening the crap out of them, and just contacting different parts of the ball to change the types of spins. If you master disguising that part of the serve, THEN your follow-through disguises will become effective against pros. However, your follow-through disguises also become kinda unnecessary when you master disguising the other parts of the service.
