I took a picture of the Andromeda Galaxy on August 26th, 2017 - and again on August 26th, 2022.

Camera: bit.ly/3CpwJHO
Telescope: bit.ly/3SI6HbQ
Mount: bit.ly/437Q7E8
In this video, Ashley and I travel to Starfest in Ontario, Canada. I decided to shoot the Andromeda Galaxy, and didn't realize that it was exactly 5 years after (to the day) to one of my first attempts.
A lot has changed since then, and it feels like it all changed on that night.

I remember watching that first Andromeda camping video you're referring to. I actually watched it again the other day and I'm aware that other things happened not long after to change your life. So I can only imagine how profound and impactful this image must be to you and I'm sure you're going to treasure this trip for many years to come. Thanks for the fun vlog mate and absolutely great image at the end. Amazing how far we can progress in the time given

What a great example of how you can progress if you stick to something for a long time! And how cool is it that you have filmed everything in between for 5 straight years? That's dedication for you :-). Thanks so much for the vlogs, keep 'em coming!

And just like that, once again the bar is raised! - Holy mother of progress man, I remember watching your 5 years ago M31 vid (seems like last week, lol!) and I have to say not only has your photography gone to another level completely but your productions are in another galaxy of their own! You're out here making Netflix quality productions at this point, it's absolutely wild to see and near impossible to appreciate the effort this must take! Just incredible man, mad respect :-) Clear skies!

Fabulous result, and another wonderful video! I’m sure I’m not alone in wondering - even asking - if you would do a video showing your gear & settings you used to shoot the Andromeda galaxy at the starfest, and how you processed to get such detail, contrast and also bring out the ha and blue star forming regions. And of course, some more of Ash’s imaging results too!

You just have to go back to those old favorites as your skills and equipment improve. We are never satisfied with our current work for long. Great image! A recent article in Astronomy magazine (Aug 2022) has inspired me to do a series of M31 images over a month or so to see if I can detect the Cepheid variable M31-V1. After 9 days, by golly, I think I see the little bugger.

After seeing your videos constantly, I decided to do astrophotography as my hobby. I purchased most of the things but I’m not sure which tripod is good for my setup which is not very expensive and sturdy with all the stuff that I have. I’ve already purchased star adventurer 2i pro pack, skywatcher Evostar 72 APO Doublet refractor, Canon 6D and few accessories.

Just a thought... I started-out with the 1st model Star Adventurer, and picked-up a used Meade telescope tripod on CloudyNights Classifieds. I built a mount-point adapter out of wood, and it worked great! I think I got that tripod for under $125, and then sold it 2 years later for the same amount.

Thank you so much for posting this video. You are an inspiration to me to take the best astrophotography picture I can do. My wife is supportive with this hobby so I’m able to get a decent couple of days per month under clear skies to take some photos. They’re nowhere near what you do but I’m sort of getting in the ballpark of what can be done. You rock! Can you at least like this video so I can show my wife I’m learning from you!
