Taking the caravan off Axle stands

Just a short clip of how I take the caravan off the Axle stands after being stored on them over winter.
I have used the steel plate just behind the wheel to jack the caravan up or you can use the Axle its self.
You can also have Alko Jacking brackets fitted -www.al-ko.com/s...

Hi Martin hope all okay good video I' don't know if u remember me mentioning that it mite b better putting two spar wheels on van over winter just in case u mite need to move van in a emergency I've been looking on ebay and others like prelove that sell used items and to buy spar caravan wheels with good tyres on them starting from as little as 15 pound to 25 pound each which not bad and they in good condition as well think putting them on over winter is safer option thought I'd let u know all the best .kev

Great content again Martin, I found myself going to the storage site every couple of months over the winter and jack up each wheel and rotate quarter of a turn, because we were hoping to use the van more during the winter, did other jobs while I was there obviously, but think you method would be better if planning to not use for a longer period. Taking the tyres off completely is a great theft deterrent?

I’ve done it for years, just up enough to take the weight off the side walls and along with the tyre-savers it does the trick. I would check with insurance before taking the wheels off, some insurers stipulate that the road wheels must be kept on the vehicle. Some storage sites also insist on the same. Just wanted to ask whether it is safe to walk around inside the caravan, whilst it is sitting on the axle stands with the wheels raised off the ground? Keep up the great content Martin

Hi, yes it’s safe just make sure the stands a secure. Wheel wheels are just slightly touching the ground, the axle stands are positioned as close to the wheels as possible under the axle, we also have the steadies down to stabilise the van. Thanks for comments and watching, Martin

Hi just a quick question about putting on axle stands I am going on a seasonal pitch hard standing and was wondering whether it would be alright to put on axle stands for the season or have you any other idea what to use.

Hi Mark, that shouldn’t be an issue. I would check with the site as some may request that the van can be moved in the event of an emergency ie fire. I would get some tyre covers to keep the sun off them as well. Cheers Martin 😊

You’re welcome, put them under the Axle near to the chassis and it will also take the weight off the suspension arms. 😊
