What’s your take on monotropism? Do you think this theory explains autistic experiences better than other models?

Subscribed! Like two seconds into the video because I needed to collect you. And retrain my algorithm. Looking forward to watching you grow!

Thank you! I think that is the first time I have been collected but my autistic brain very much likes the idea of being part of a collection haha. I hope you continue enjoying my videos 😀

Thanks for making this video; I hadn’t heard of monotropism before and it’s really a lightbulb moment for me. It’s hard to click with a term or a diagnosis or a definition until it’s slotted in the right place, categorically speaking. For many years I’ve been trying to reconcile my diagnosis of OCD given when I was a teen with the symptoms which to me seem much more aligned with AuDHD. This questionnaire helps put a name to a big part of my life experience! Thanks for explaining your answers too. I look forward to hearing what you have to say about hyperlexia.

Thank you. I'm glad it has been helpful, it was definitely an illuminating moment for me too, discovering monotropism, you are are right, sometimes just having the language to characterise the way things effect us can really change the way we see it. Interestingly, my psychiatrist has suggested I may have OCD, which makes sense - now but never would have for me before. She also mentioned that autism and OCD are often comorbid. I'm meant to be recording the hyperlexia video right now but in an executive function spiral, lol. Thank you again for messaging, and I am so glad I could introduce you to the theory as if it helps you as much as it has me. You'll take a lot from it 😀

Thank you for going over the questions because I've struggled to answer without explanations, I mirrored your answers before you answered.😂 . I did notice the very loud click had gone, same here I throw across mine!! You made me laugh about monologueing to your friend then still carried on😂😂 thank you..

The funny thing is, I can still hear the damn clock in the hallway... I'm glad everyone else can't hear it now, though. I could hear it in every video - I thought I kept unknowingly doing videos while I had the washing machine on when I edited them and no amount of backround noise removal worked, it was driving me mad and then I realised if I could hear the clock, the mic may be picking it up too 🫠🤣 I was just so used to the annoying-ness of it. I'm glad it was helpful, sometimes just having another person going through the questions can make it more obvious what the meaning is and I also find listening to other people being ok with it, makes me realise that it is ok for my brain to be different- in fact, better than ok, it's pretty fun and makes life interesting (if also very frustrating at times). I only have one really strong friendship, and it is beautiful to me and him, but it is baffling to everyone else around us as we move between monologues with ease and circle back to something we were talking about months ago like we never stopped talking about it...but then someone tries to add something and we ask for loads of context. I'm planning on doing a video with him soon about friendships - I just know it will have to be very edited as it will be hours long - I'm not sure my hard drive will be able to handle the pre edit video size.
