TAKING THE SUBWAY IN MEXICO CITY + A DAY IN POLANCO | Eileen Aldis

I'm currently travelling in Mexico City and in this vlog I'm taking the subway to the neighbourhood of Polanco! The subway here is fantastic and only costs five pesos (about 25 cents US!). I'm spending the day touring around Polanco. I get lunch at a cute deli, visit Museo Soumaya, and check out a cool bookstore/cafe called El Péndulo. Later I take the subway back to Roma Norte, where I'm staying, and end the day with delicious tacos from a street stand (5 tacos for 30 pesos [about $2 USD]).
ABOUT ME:
I'm travelling around the world as a nomad. I left my apartment, sold most of my stuff, bought a one way ticket, and am currently living in Mexico City! I don't know where I'm going next. COME ALONG FOR THE ADVENTURE!

Eileen Aldis I just found your videos and I'm loving them. You experienced Mexico City the way we locals do. I was amazed at your extremely positive attitude towards such a large and overwhelming city. At first I thought you were american and only now realized you're actually canadian. That explains a lot!!! Canadians are the coolest!!!

Hardly know where to start with comments - guess the subway says "26 million people" better than anything. The museum is unbelievable....could take days wandering around there. The architecture is stunning. (so is the bathroom. ha, ha) Having fun following you around!

The subway is a fantastic way to get around and only costs 5 pesos (about 25 cents USD). That time was particularly busy but in general that hasn't happened. We haven't taken it at rush hour when I've heard it's VERY busy. Makes sense, of course! The museum is huge, yes, and lots to see! We spent a couple of hours. Glad you enjoyed the video!

Eileen Aldis just a "disculpa"/"disculpe" (depending primarily on the age of who you're saying it to) should suffice. "Perdón" also works out quite nice, especially when you are actually apologising.

Hi! Permiso is permission, it's something you ask for. Permission to pass if it's too crowded, or to enter a house you're not familiar with; it can be translated to "excuse me", that has an acception for an apology, maybe that's the cause of your confusion. Now spanish talking people don't ask for permission with the full sentence "¿me da permiso?" (can I have your permission?, may I pass, please?), they have cutted it into simply "permiso", it's an unfinished sentence. I have discovered your channel just yesterday and I've been watching it nonstop, love it!!

Hi, I adore El Péndulo too but If you liked and want to go back to see more books, I recommend you: Librería Gandhi in Coyoacán, Centro Cultural Elena Garro (it´s amazing), El Sótano (miguel angel de quevedo), Fondo de Cultura Económica (eje central), and my favorites ones, we called it "Librerias de viejo" they are bookstores of old books that are on the street maidens in the historic center (Donceles), and of course don´t miss the University City Library, it´s a MUST, glad to see your post, greetings from México.

I said ok,so I did,then to get out the same,I couldnt get out the first time so he said,listen if you wanna get out you need to push ok? so I did,but really if you did it you passed the test!,people from other states in Mexico call the people from Mex city "chilangos" Nice video you made me remember old memories.

yes! I am back from my trip! it was amazing, I stayed there for a week and it was not scary at all!! sometimes when I was feeling a bit nervous in the metro I just kept saying to myself: if you can read, you can get to your destination😉😂 I took amazing photos, ate a lot, went shopping and had a great time. If you're going to not-so-pretty parts of the city (which I did) try not to have your phone in your hand or cameras or anything that will drag attention to you, it's just a precaution😊 have fun, but as always, be aware of your surroundings. best of luck! xx

Hi there, Thanks for your comment. Yeah, I sort of think of permiso as 'pardon' or 'excuse me' - there's a joke that Canadians say sorry a lot haha.

@EileenAldis
@EileenAldis 7 жыл бұрын
I didn't personally get sick from food but I know it's different for everyone. I think a good tip is to look for places that are popular and have a lot of people there! Or ask for a recommendation from someone who has eaten there before. But some of the best food is from street vendors so I wouldn't want to miss out! :)

Mexico City subways are clean, efficient and handy service like TTC subways in Toronto. Big difference is has about six or seven subway lines, Si or nada, por favor? I wanted to go Mexico one day, but because of the bad things happening to tourists there can't let it deter me from going. Also a few Mexicans don't like black people and a small amount of the population of Mexico has African descent, they refuse to show it.

mmm I don´t think we mexicans have nothing against any race in general, we just don´t play the racial game at all. I guess mexicans tend to discriminate more in the "socioeconomic status" way, but we just don´t discriminate for race. we are all like a huge mixture, there are mexicans in all colors and flavors. (sorry for my english, lerned it at school c: )

Simons Gordon I promise you if you visit Mexico, (especially Mexico city or Cancun which are more touristy) you will not have any bad experiences. So long as you stay with the tourists and obviously don't wander off to places that look sketchy, which is how tourists end up having bad experiences whether it be Mexico, Thailand or Europe. Also the racism you are referring to is not the kind that leads to violence or open discrimination. Maybe you have read a tad too many exaggerating articles.
@MrDigitalman78

Elizabeth Gonzalez I believe what you're about Mexico in general. It's a friendly tourist destination. I will stay in the tourist areas like Cancun. I also want to know the Mexican capital of Mexico City CDMX Cuidad de Mexico. Mexico gets a bad wrap through media, can't believe the negativity of Mexico.

Polanco is arguably Mexico's most wealthy region, so you're not getting a taste of the real Mexico. Of course, the real Mexico is deadly and violent these days, so I don't blame you for not venturing too far into more native territory.
