Losing friends was the hardest part of questioning gender. There is a geek community I can't be a part of, an activist community can't be a part of, IRL friends lost from social media connection. The sudden realization of how misogynistic all the people I used to enjoy spending time with was very depressing. They can't see anyone who says things like "Title IX needs to remain sex based," or "Women have a human right to male free spaces," as anything less than hatefully transphobic. I've come to the realization I don't really like them, either, though. When I say "Male bodies in women's sports isn't fair," they say 'That's exactly what people who didn't want racially integrated sports said: "Black bodies in white sports isn't fair."' That really deeply annoys me. Because it's so not comparable. Or when I talk about 80% of of GNC being proto homosexuals, and how they are supporting gay eugenics in supporting transing kids, they dodge my very salient point with accusations of ulterior motives: "You don't actually care about gay kids, you just hate trans people." Well shit, how to you prove a negative? When they believe what they are saying so deeply (conveniently this is almost entirely men talking this way) I might as well be arguing with them over the nature and the number of the sacraments. Total waste of time.

Exactly. The fact that our words have been taken and redefined and even those in opposition of this fascist totalitarianism use the words almost instinctively is dangerous. I am not a cis woman. I am not a natal woman. A person born w/ a penis is not a woman. When I hear women use "cis" to talk about their privilege, I get angry. First of all _what_ privilege?? Secondly, how is it that you've allowed a man to tell you what you _have_ to identify as, yet when you state that that man has a penis & can therefore never be a woman suddenly you're a bad, evil, transphobic person. So they can define us using made up words that don't really exist, but we can't state facts??? It's all very Orwellian.

As much as I love my city I hate how ridiculous things are becoming. I mean there's always been over the top movements that I thought were goofy, but at least I could laugh them off. These days I'm not laughing so much. It seems like everything that people here valued, as well as ideals this brand of identitarian activists claims to value, are being hurt by the movement just as they are everywhere. The diversity of opinions is what I find to be the most valuable ideal in a community. This ideal has fucked right off. That said, the everyday people I work with and deal with aren't the cliche super left weirdos that seem to be stealing the narrative. But I can certainly see it's effects and many friends of mine have bought right into it without so much as taking 5 minutes to look something up. This lack of nuance in thinking, which isn't new in the way people approach socio-political issues, has seemed to drastically worsen. I don't know where all this nonsense started or why this particular, and incredibly pedantic, movement around identity is so strangely militant and close minded. But I fucking hate it.

I get some professors don't mind the usual icebreaker (name, where you're from) but even still we're not here for that and I damn sure didn't pay tuition for that. Let's get to work. "It's hard to publically admit we made a mistake, it's hard to publically admit we were wrong" Meghan Murphy, incorrectly speaking for Katie and others. Talk about problematic, wow. Bravo to Katie for pushing back and correctly pointing out that your credibility increases when taking responsibility for your mistakes.Quite the sad commentary that Meghan blurted that out with such confidence. However, Katie's compassion for "those blue check mark aholes" who unwaveringly and blindly believed the Smollett hoax story is certainly troubling. That aside I really enjoyed Katie's perspective in this interview. She is very articulate. ✌

I think you misunderstood... I have spoken many times about being wrong and the joys of changing my mind. I admit it freely and openly if I have been wrong or have changed my mind about something.

@@meghanemilymurphy I quoted you verbatim and just watched again, so no, I did not misunderstand at all. In fact, it is more troubling after the 2nd viewing. My comment was obviously based on your exact words yet you felt the need to attempt and shift blame by saying " I think you misunderstood." You just unknowingly solidified my point, not that I needed more proof. Why is personal accountability so hard for you here ? People who worry about repercussions of being wrong or speaking truth because of how they're perceived are always the least authentic.

@@meghanemilymurphy I'm not watching whatever this is, you know why ? It's irrelevant to this discussion on what you said here. However, if it happened to be before this interview then it would be contradictory and unhelpful anyway. Also, I never told you what you think just what you spoke on this particular occaison. More importantly, why are you talking this as some eternal condemnation ?

@@stephencaparella1133 you seem stressed about this... It's ok to be wrong.

i've gone through all of your videos and they have no sound. I wonder if this is another attempt to silence you, or if it is just me.

It really sucks if a human being came to the conclusion that they needed to transition and then later found out that was wrong. WPATH, the worldwide professional association for transgender health has setup some really good guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of trans people. Of course this is done by humans and cannot be perfect. I feel for this persons experiences, but I also want to stress that this is a minority experience (which does not make it less important, but indicates it is not representative of most trans folks). Keep on keepin on folks :D

Not sure if the people on the left are smarter than the people on the right. The people on the right had this conversation you are having now 10 years ago...

It drives me nuts when people on the left assert that the right has no intellectuals. Not every right winger is some knuckle dragging troglodyte. We've got, Edmund Burke, Russell Kirk, C.S. Lewis, Garet Garrett, Frank Chodorov, Ayn Rand, Isabel Patterson, Rose Wilder Lane, Hayek, Mises, Rothbard, Milton Friedman, Roger Scruton, Paul Gottfried...to name a few.

You may already know this, Meghan, but there is a distracting low-frequency rumble throughout this video.
