Bloomington-Normal bus service seems to have significantly upgraded service and buses in the last decade. I, recently, learned of a bus service from Midway airport which gets one to the Bradley-Bourbonais area with its connecting bus services. Seems like an interesting fan trip to plan. Oh and I love the historic steam train in the park by the zoo in Bloomington.

That Midway bus is actually a future trip I’m planning 😉

@@karatransitfur what's amazing is that it doesn't cost much...unlike some of the services for various Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin cities from Chicago's airports, which can be fairly pricey.

Sandusky also has a weird quarter hour bus (also the weekday only Orange line is hourly on the half hour, but the blue line is ever 30mins at :00 and :30 so its not as weird since the Orange takes a slightly different route-but nothing exclusive except the Bowling Green State RAAM Campus and what would be lost without it the Yellow Line covers-which is otherwise just an express of the red line to downtown for the Cedar Point dorms. Would be nice if it was extended one stop to Huron on a 40-45min M-F schedule/hourly on the :30 on weekends)

There's actually a place called Normal 💀 so apparently, it's called that because of Illinois State University. Normal used to be called North Bloomington. Based on the French teaching schools, the term "normal" was the general name for all schools set up to be teachers’ colleges. And a bill in 1857 signed by then Governor William Bissell stipulated that the permanent location would be the place that offered the most favorable inducement. Jesse Fell (who founded North Bloomington) was the guy who wanted it to be by Bloomington and the decision was between Bloomington and Peoria. It ended up being by Bloomington thanks to a bond drew up by Abraham Lincoln of $141,000 (or around 5 million in today's money) which surpassed the amount Peoria gathered for their campaign. The university first held classes in Bloomington while the campus was being built in North Bloomington, and the university would move there in 1860, with the town renamed to Normal in 1865.
