The problem with the cargo stations is the low speed the traffic goes. It's far too slow and honestly it should be increased up to 60 or something in future updates. Also, if you have a ton of production, many trucks will swarm them trying to sell the godos. That's good for getting money but it can block the trains, so you have to make sure the tracks are one way out instead of two ways in-out. I know this because I learnt it the hard way and now I have 6 cargo stations all working more or less ok in a city of 260k people. However, despite that tremendous amount of citizens, only 4k use the metro and 2k the buses. I guess the game can't load more citizens and the more you grow up the sooner you reach the cap which I guess must be around 80k people. I remember having up to 10k people using metro and then suddenly they abandoned the metro.

Massive 6-lane roads everywhere and one-way systems: NO. Just, NO. Stop it! ;^P No, really. You're hurting yourself! The Small Heavy Four-Lane road is excellent for industrial areas, as trucks can turn across the middle of the road (they can't on those special Industry roads, it seems). That cleared up a lot of my Industry area traffic problems. The other thing (for Industry DLC areas particularly) is to make sure trucks can get to the next stage of production with only right-hand turns. Like: Ore mine, ore mine, ore mine, ore mine -> ore warehouse -> ore mill, glass manufacturing (etc.) -> glass warehouse, metal warehouse -> quick exit to highway or cargo terminal. Use roundabouts judiciously so both sides of your roads get used. ;) This really works.

I've found using the one lane/one way roads (from the Vanilla+ Roads mod collection) and having at least 2 cargo train stations are absolutely massive for reducing cargo train traffic - and I mean 2 cargo train stations right next to each other. When cars aren't trying to turn out in front of each other, it all just goes a lot more smoothly - plus by splitting the traffic up, they get in and out faster overall.

I found it really funny that he explains that while a wrong execution of that exact example is just showing in the background. Makes me wonder if it wasn't intentional, because otherwise he does a good job fixing traffic.
@riannaHermione5 жыл бұрын
About 12:50.. I would connect 1 of the 6-lane roads into the other one further down so it's not 2 incoming to the roundabout. That would definitely work along with downgrading one of them, like you did with the one on the left. :)

I keep noticing that players keep using very bing interchanges (like the big turbine i think it's called), but in many cases it is a bit of an overkill. And in many cases people lack passages to get from one disctrict to another, making the relatively few highway exits blocked up. To all, when planning your cities just don't fail to add a few highway round-exits, or even a couple extra simple diamond interchanges and apply the basics of road hierarchy (highway to get from two parts of the city, arterial roads are the big streets connecting to the highway exits, need to minimise the number of intersections, add roundabouts if needed. Collector roads are the next lever down, and connect the local roads to the arterials). As far as two high-ways interchanges a simple cloverleaf interchange is usually sufficiant, if it is not just upgrade the exit ramps to two lanes rather than one and that does the trick. Edit, in this particular city, it was actually done quite well, wich is good to see, but the advice could still be usefull
@josejaimes-ramos15465 жыл бұрын
I can testify to this. Keeping the road heirarchy in your mind while building is enough to keep traffic down even in large cities. Combine that with the transportation heirarchy and you almost don't need roundabouts.

It's not as necessary as it used to be, but you might also consider splitting up your local and external cargo by creating a transfer station: one station connects to local tracks, one connects to external tracks, and both are connected to each other by an isolated road loop. It forces the trains to be less frequent but more full.

Biffa, Could you post a collection of all the Mods you have running when you do your videos. I want to know what mod is giving you the additional items on the toolbar. Also Is there anyway to force that road with the bidirectional middle lane to force it to be used for turning only? We have one of those down the side of our biggest shopping mall so cars can turn off in to the parking lots for stores on the other side of the road from the mall BUT they can only travel in the middle lane until they come to a driveway on to the street from either side. It is a MAJOR ticket & demerit points if they catch you using wrong with spotter cars there at random times on random days.
@or2kr5 жыл бұрын
I would like to get a better focus on where the cars are going and not where they are standing still. The biggest issue with roundabouts is that when cars can't leave it, the whole circle and thus every road feeding into it comes to a halt, so making the cars flow behind it is much more important than fixing the roundabout itself. It's kinda tiring to only see the rules being changed because that is the only thing that seems to be happening, while other solutions that only affect the road after the intersection are mich more important in my opinion
