In 2006 when I graduated high school I was short on money and had to decide whether to go to prom and gradnight or see Taking Back Sunday in Long Beach. I decided to go see my favorite band TBS and I don't regret it. This night was the best night of my life!

@@elmo9293I second that, saw them a few years back when they were touring with Coheed, it sounded so bad it was sad to see. Honestly, it was the vocals that ruined it for me. His voice was so bad it was distracting from the actual music, the guitar bass and drums were great, his voice was not. Then I watched some vids of them live over the last five years or so, and realized he just doesn’t have it anymore. So at the show he swung the mic around the whole time, did the awkward dance moves and gestures and just tried to be like a hype man the whole show. I just wonder, does he actually know how bad he sounds? Has nobody told him it’s a glaring issue? Because performing like that is sad to see and is kind of ruining the legacy of the band to me. It’s strange and sad at the same time.

@@boxcharles actually he was never really good at live performance. He had decent voice in the past. But I think smoking and bad habbits ruined his voice when he got older. But TBS still one of the best band for 😊me ever. I regret I will nevere see their live performance by myself only on KZbin.

I don’t know how people just blend between screaming and singing in the same line like that. I think Spencer from Underoath and Caleb from Beartooth do that style really well too.
@TheSpartan_G
@TheSpartan_G Жыл бұрын
@@jimiboi87 It's actually a lot easier up on high notes like that. It's also easier on certain sounds/words. If you're decent singer you can learn this in a day or so. If you or anyone else wants give it a shot here's a little guide I made: The name of the game for not hurting yourself and doing this properly is to limit the amount of air passing through your vocal chords so they don't get dry and the muscles in and above your neck don't have to work very much. This is where your diaphragm becomes super important. Your core is controlling the amount of air that leaves your lungs by creating a vacuum that pulls away from your lungs which creates a reverse pressure on them essentially. Everything from your collarbone up should be very relaxed even when you're screaming (at least for the techniques I know). There is a form of of vocal compression that works differently, but that's not what I'm talking about for now. We wanna be relaxed everywhere but our lower torso. -Stand up for this and take in a deep breath (not to absolute full lung capacity, but like 75 to 90% full) in through your NOSE and feel it along your soft palate at the roof of your mouth as you inhale. I inhale this way rather than through the mouth as it tends to feel better on my vocal chords for some reason, as if less air is getting dragged down past them even if I'm taking in a lot of air quickly. This also helps me to keep my nasal passage clear when singing. -Clench the absolute shit out of your abs/diaphragm/core (which you should already be doing especially for belting or singing in general, but it's even more important for this.) If you're not sure, look up some tutorials on how to use your diaphragm to scream. It's the same as singing, it just REALLY important here.) -First try to belt the line "in the worst way" in your regular clean and connected mixed voice (a blend of your chest and headvoice - NOT just a pushed up chest voice). Make sure you commit to it. The car is a good place to practice if you can't do it at home. Don't try to be quiet, but don't force yourself to be loud either. It should be comfortably loud. You're trying to resonate the sound off the roof of your mouth and the area around your nose and upper face. -You're NOT closing your throat like a drill instructor that's trying to be intimidating but rather try imagining someone is 100 metres away and you're trying to communicate something to them clearly. Resonate! Think of how an an opera singer would sing (don't worry you won't sound like one it's just helps with queue's lmao). -Unhinge/unclench your jaw. Let it hang lose. Don't worry about the vowel/constant sounds for the moment. You can dial that in after you get the sensation down. -Make a really dopey, long drawn out sigh sound (Think Homer Simpson). You should feel the air/sound dragging across the roof of your mouth and leaving through your face above your mouth. If there's no distortion in that sound for you, lean into it a little more. "Lean into" doesn't mean compress your neck or face or anything like that for more air. The queue I use to increase volume is to try to hum through your nose, and then try to increase the volume of your hum - that is the sensation you're after when you're singing and screaming. It's a distinctly different sensation than simply trying to use more air with your talking voice. -Don't compress your throat muscles. Keep your neck and face relaxed. You should almost look bored or like you're not doing much. It should look fairly effortless. You can make yourself look entertaining later for performance sake but you should be able to do all of this with minimal strain/effort from the chest up. This helps make it so you don't need to rely on your face muscles to hit certain notes and vowel sounds. You can do a LOT of vowel and constant sounds without really moving your jaw very much. Once you can do that, you can always add in just a LITTLE bit of that back in for taste but you shouldn't need to rely on it just to hit the notes. -You want the sound to feel like it's resonating off of the soft palate/roof of your mouth rather than in your throat. Again, this is actually easier on higher notes. I find If you try it with too low of a note it's really easy to accidentally use your throat to create some or all of the distortion. -This sound we're aiming for is not the sound I'd associate with Chad Kroeger (Nickelback) or Adam Gontier (Three Days Grace). You're not trying to sound badass or intimidating or cool (not talking shit, that's a sick sound too but it's not the same technique as this). What we're aiming for is more like a breakdown. It's desperate. It's vulnerable. It's intense but it comes more from the feeling of falling apart and collapsing rather than the feeling of anger which is important for dialing it in. -To practice essentially you wanna start out belting a note (With your diaphragm! ANY time there's sound leaving your mouth, your diaphragm should ALWAYS be engaged or you'll hurt your throat!) and then you let everything relax and let your voice fall apart from under you as you continue belting. If done correctly, you'll get the sound your after. Practice in small bursts of time, and sing cleanly a bit too during your scream practice as well to keep your singing technique grounded while you're learning. Make sure to hydrate at least a little while before you start singing. The water you drink is not what really hydrates your vocal chords, but rather it hydrates your body and than your body hydrates your vocal chords, so simply drinking water WHILE you sing isn't good enough. At the end of your practice session your core should be tired as hell but your face and neck should not. Your throat shouldn't feel dry. You should also still be able to access your full singing range (there should be no dead spots in your falsetto, etc...). If there are notes that won't come out or it sounds like you're losing your voice you might be pushing a bit too much or for too long.
