I think the case of the 2+ is exactly the same as the 2. They also sell motherboard upgrade so that you can upgrade your old 2 to a 2+. That must be why the case still has the old printing. I think we should applaud and encourage re-usability and upgradability of parts! Even when that may come at a cost of some "wrong" printing on the case. Rub off the old printing with some alcohol, whatever. Hat off to reusable parts!
@davegraham7163 жыл бұрын
Yes we should because it's way better for the consumer & environment but way worse for the seller. Companies usually release new versions of their products more often than necessary is usually so that they can help get a foot ahead of their biggest competition; themselves. Even the coolest & best product ever within a given market, made by the greatest company will eventually still see sales begin to fall off, not because their competing with another product but because at a point there are so many used copies of their product for sale that it drives prices/ demand down, & its very tempting to just release a "newer/better/updated" version of that product.

Well done, for the environment and the customer. PS the site clearly states now some models have similar cases, but list differences very transparently (unlike the marketing of big brands that want you to think of technology as magic and pixie dust) such as better buttons.

It has finally arrived. The DHL bag contained a basic small cardboard shipping box with the retail box inside, no complaints about that. Inside is the RP2+, some white USB 3.1 cable (purple port), a screen protector and a useless mini manual. Mine had RP2 branding on the chassis too, like Taki said, but the box and the boot screen correctly says RP2+. The initial setup was quick and painless. I didn't turn on Google Play Services to save on resources, installed F-Droid as my store instead. I've tried out Retroarch with some snes roms and after configuring the controls it works well. The screen looks great and the speakers sound great. The device is a bit taller than the RG-350 I previously used and it's more comfortable to hold, but the controls feel stiffer. Maybe they just need to be worn in. Speaking of which, the edges of the LZ and RZ are very sharp on mine, but that can be rubbed away so no big deal. Overall I had a very positive first impression. I will update this comment if I find any pain points.

I'm impressed how much that does that it doesn't claim to do. Gamecube is just surprising, sure at times some hit 15-20fps, but largely they didn't feel like a slideshow watching it either, felt more like a 20 year old era where peoples computers if they weren't always made fresh each year would just run a little slower, and you're used to it. I think the most expensive thing in the end won't be the device, but the big storage chip to hold the games because when you get into the optical and post 2000 card based games, they're huge. most likely these are made illegally, without any form of licensing from Nintendo, Sony, etc. This is not that different than illegally downloading music, movies, software without paying for it. @josephl36023 жыл бұрын
@@kenjipattiinugai1310 No.. Making the console that can run software is not stealing.. Making these things so cheap is not illegal and it doesn't require Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc licensing. Making something and calling it a Gameboy, GBA, gamegear, vita, etc.. but Nintendo, Sony Sega, etc doesn't own the rights to the shape, software or even programming tools used here, so again. .. no There's nothing illegal about this.
@kenjipattiinugai13103 жыл бұрын
@@josephl3602 incorrect. You're not even understanding what I'm saying. Something that is cheap of course is not illegal, that's not the point at all. You're talking about making/selling an exact clone of a Sony, Nintendo, etc game system. Yes, of course that's illegal. As would be using their copy-righted names/branding. But that's not what we're talking about here either. For perspective, downloading music from unauthorized sites is illegal. Only the record label, the artist, or a licensed distributor can legally sell/offer music online. Games are the same way. Only the publisher (Sony, Nintendo, etc), or the game developers, or distributors (stores like GameStop, Best Buy, etc.) can legally sell/offer games. (Or buying/selling 2nd hand games.) However, if you are downloading ripped games (ROMs) from the internet, you're basically pirating, which is illegal. In addition, every game made originally to run on a Playstation is licensed to only run on Playstation hardware, every game made for the Wii is licensed to only run on a Wii, and so on and so forth. If you're running a Playstation game on a PC that means you're using an emulator to run the ROM, that means it's no longer a licensed product. It's a stolen product. (Just like downloading a music album from some share site instead of paying Google or iTunes for the album.) These 3rd party consoles are basically tiny PCs running emulators repackaged into consoles to run ROMs. Unlicensed and illegal.

Minor shortcomings aside, you really gotta appreciate how dedicated the RP team is to designing a quality product. I had an OG RP2, and while I loved it for handheld emulation, there were still some MAJOR problems with it that would sour the experience at times. Fast forward to the RP2+, and I'm happy to say that it looks like they've solved most of these problems in spades. My RP2 just broke (100% my fault...water damage), so I'll definitely be picking up this one. I also appreciate Taki's effort to remain unbiased despite having some minor involvement with the product (IIRC he gave Retroid some constructive feedback on the RP2 if I'm not mistaken?). If anything, the fact that Retroid actually reaches out to people like Taki who earnestly care about the whole handheld emulation scene, and then actually takes their constructive criticism into account when developing the next iteration, really puts them in my good graces. All of this aside, one of my main issues with the OG RP2 was the ergonomics. I really do think the raised conductive rubber buttons instead of the clicky bois should help out with that immensely (queue war flashbacks to playing Rocket Knight on my RP2 and destroying my thumbs on the buttons), but I am still a little worried about hand crampage...Can anybody with the RP2+ confirm whether the new buttons help very much with that?
