The Takmak fort is one of the hidden gems of the Sahyadris. The fort is situated in the Vasai Tehsil, Thane district. Though it is closer to Mumbai, it still remains unexplored. The base village for the trek is Sakawar which is at sea level. The trek gradually gains altitude and climbs up to 2000 ft from the base.
Difficulty: Easy-Moderate
Duration: 1 Day
Max Altitude: 2000 ft
Base: Sakawar Village, Vasai Taluka, Palghar, Maharashtra
Best time to visit: June-Februar

@@KamleshChavan Hi, it was amazing trek !!! Very underrated ! My favourite part was the dense forest and those narrow trails where the leaves and branches brush past you when you walk through it, and banana leaves haha. Once we reached the narrow ridge, there was a nice spacious flat surface , we had camped there , it was so amazing and morning we trekked to the top. I realised guide is must, first we thought we will go without guide but within first 20 minutes we took wrong trail so we came back and took a guide (so many kids there who keep asking"you want guide " so we took one of the kids as guide) , but still next day when we came down we got lost haha. then finally we found a local who helped us . Overall We loved the trek, it has become one of our favourite !!!! Thanks for your information and time :)

Hi Rishabh, Public transportation hai but frequency kum hai. Agar aap SAKWAR village se bahar highway ( Mumbai - Ahemdabad) aakar try karoge toh mil jayega koi na koi transport. Gaon k andar se rikshaw k liye gaon me hi check karna padega. Ya Virar station se private rikshaw kar k ja sakte ho.

Hi Vidhi, thanks for the comment. Usually, it takes 2:30-3:00 hours to climb to the top. But after all it depends on person. ( Suggestion : start early in the morning and carry enough water)

Hey, This was during the fourth unlock, I think 6th July 2020 was the day. We also asked local at Sakwar village they not just informed that fort is open but also helped me with initial route. Not sure of what current situation. Btw when did you visit?
