Kia Ora. OK - I'm just gonna say it. This is one of my favourite waiata, engari, I'm not to "up there" with some of the photos displayed where the beersies are shown, especially with te pepe having a couple of stubbies of Lion Red in their arms. WTF?!?!?.. This waiata is about who we are as an iwi and where we are from AND MOST importantly our pride in being MĀORI. Some of the photos with the beersies in them are NOT what this waiata is all about.....and to see it come up as one of the most popular search results for this waiata - is an insult to not only the composer of this waiata (Kahu Waitoa), but also to our iwi Māori. Yes, a lot of us do enjoy a drop or two (three or four or more with others), but this is NOT what we, as te iwi Māori, are! Ko Waiapu te awa - The river is Waiapu Ko Ngāti Porou te iwi - The tribe is Ngāti Porou. Ko Waiapu te awa - The river is Waiapu Ko Ngāti Porou te iwi - The tribe is Ngāti Porou. Tāku manawa, Ko Te Tai Rawhiti - The East Coast is my heart. Tāku manawa, Ko Te Tai Rawhiti - The East Coast is my heart. Hei konei tāku kainga, tāku whānau hoki - Here is my home and also my family. Hei konei tāku kainga, tāku whānau hoki - Here is my home and also my family. Tāku aroha, Ko Te Tai Rawhiti - The East Coast is my love (I love the East Coast) Tāku aroha, Ko Te Tai Rawhiti - The East Coast is my love (I love the East Coast). Tū mai rā Hikurangi - Hikurangi stands here Me tōu mana rangatira - And your esteemed respect. Tēnei ahau, ko mokopuna - This is I, your grandchild/descendant Ō Te Tairawhiti - Of the East Coast.
@kaylenetana16236 жыл бұрын
Tena koe, I agree with you of the pic in the Pepi holding the beersies .its a lovely waiata , n yes its about our people our whenua our culture , respect should be before beer n consideration as to who see it . I'm of ngapuhi , ngatihine of the north . n we do not display that of our cherished mokopuna that's not wot the beer is for wtf ! ! ! But is a lovely waiata , I have connections to ngati porou of our ancestor Tu TeRangi Whiu , his daughter Heeni Whetu is my great grandmother hailed from Toloega bay... She too would agree .... Just wanted to say ..thank you god bless 😇🙏 peace to all .kia ora

I think this is actually a tribute to someone who has passed away, so that’s probably why there are pics of beers. I could be wrong though, anyway, I do agree. Alcohol is banned on some maraes now up in rangitukia which is the best decision I think! Don’t need that crap when u coming home. Go else where to get lit yah xx
