Updates/Corrections to video: 1) For the frame geometry, I accidentally swapped the bike names and images. The measurements are correct as stated in the video, but the order of the bikes in my geometry table should be, from left to right: Trek Marlin, Specialized Rockhopper, and then Giant Talon. Sorry about that error! 2) All of the Specialized Rockhopper models have increased in price by $100, so the Rockhopper Sport now costs $700 3) The Marlin 6 actually uses 100mm of travel in its size small as well, and only uses 80mm of travel for the xs size.

I can only agree with what KK has written, I only discovered your videos by chance. I am looking to buy an entry level hardtail and then fit a Bafang 1000kw Mid-Drive ,hopefully the bottom bracket on the bike I choose will be a ‘straight-through ‘ with no complications. Your videos are extremely good,simple and informative to a novice that wants to get into MB but only wants to bike British roads and off -road fire-tracks.Covid has given me more time to study this but there are so many videos it gets confusing to try and make a final decision,but I think yours will help me more than any others. Great work and thanks

You could definitely do future videos like this one by bike category. 1. 27.5" Plus size aluminum trail-oriented hardtail (Terek Roscoe, Diamondback Mason, Raleigh Tokul) 2. 29er Cross-country race oriented aluminum hardtail (Trek X-Caliber, Diamondback Overdrive 29, Specialized Chisel) 3. 29er Cross-country race oriented carbon hardtail (Trek Procaliber, Specialized S-Works) 4. Enduro bikes (Rocky Mountain Altitude, Giant Reign, Intense Cycles Carbine) 5. Downhill bikes (Rocky Mountain Slayer, Trek Session, Specialized Session, Intense Cycles M29) 6. Bikepacking (Trek Stache, Rocky Mountain Growler) 7. Fatbikes (Specialized Fatboy, Diamondback El Oso, Rocky Mountain Blizzard)

Great video! I've been bikepacking for 8 years and evolved a Boardman 27.5 hardtail. I like the straight handlebar, front suspension and wider tyres, hence gravel bike is a non starter. The Boardman is now worn out and I've upgraded to the Talon. With tubolito inners, weight is less than 13kg. I've added seat post suspension for further comfort. Never got on with 29 for bikepacking and gearing with the single chain ring is actually ideal.

Just bought my very first mtb the Talon 2 a couple days ago. I was looking for the Marlin 6 but at this point of the year most of the local bike shops here are out of stock. But luck have served me well and I found an XS Talon 2 (which is perfect for my size) for roughly below 500$ (converted to USD) and it had the UK groupset components. Looking at the price range, for me I struck a great deal! Thank you for these types of videos! It's a pain to look through their websites for hours for their comparisons. Also, let me know which parts should I uprgade first.

Newsflash, the Talon 1 does NOT come with an air fork and NOT with tubeless ready tires! I just came back from a 4 hr trip to buy this bike, just to learn that due to the global supply chain crisis they just don't include those anymore. I left without buying. Whole day for nothing. Giant customer care was less than helpful too. I'm sure it's supposed to be a good bike but without customer service and random components installed, it seems a bit risky to buy. Better choose a brand with customer service and better communication on their website.

Ideas for future videos in the same light as this one: Idea #1: Compare Trek Roscoe, Raleigh Tokul, Diamondback Mason, Diamondback Sync'r, Specialized Fuse, and Giant Fathom in the same manner Idea #2: Compare Trek X-Caliber, Diamondback Overdrive 29, Raleigh Tekoa, Giant Fathom 29, Specialized Chisel Idea #3: Compare Trek Supercaliber, Giant Stance, Diamondback Release, Specialized Epic Evo So all of these ideas are based off of a certain category of bike. #1 being fun-loving 27.5" Plus size trail hardtail, #2 being 29" cross country aluminum hardtail, #3 being 29er full-squish aluminum trail, then you could make a video for each category like enduro, downhill, cross-country full squish, cross-country carbon hardtail (race oriented), trail carbon hardtail (non-race oriented), dirt jump/freeride, etc

What is the best all around bike? I am from Los Angeles and want a bike that I can ride in the streets but can also take on gravel, dirt roads and to hit some medium trails in the hills/mountains nothing to crazy though. In the budget range of 1000-1500$ I know it is not too much but maybe I can upgrade the bike later done the line.
@TalalipopMTB
@TalalipopMTB 3 жыл бұрын
I typically lean toward the middle of the range bikes for the best all around bike, since they have more speeds for road and commuting purposes. So something like the marlin 6 would be better than the marlin 7 in my personal opinion, although you can argue the other way as well. I think the rockhopper and marlin mentioned in the comparison could both work well for your purpose.

I’m thinking of buying either the Talon 2 or Marlin 6. I often ride with friends in town or go one dirt trails and occasional jumping and so on and I’d like to know which of the two would be better for me.
@TalalipopMTB
@TalalipopMTB 4 жыл бұрын
For the trails and jumping the talon is probably better while the marlin 6 would be a bit better for around town use. I’d say the talon in this case because although you might lose some incremental gears, it shouldn’t be too noticeable unless you are riding for longer periods of time on the road.

At around 5 mins 20 seconds you correctly state the head tube angles of the bikes but your graphic chart has them wrong. Cool video. I would love to see a video comparing the Rockhopper Elite to the other comparable bikes. It would be a cool sub $1000 bikes video.

Ah that's awesome. I am waiting with fingers crossed for my local specialized store to receive that bike. I'm after the 2x because I will be using it a lot on the road as well. How fast does it feel for you on the road?
@nvire5202
@nvire5202 4 жыл бұрын
@@owenphilipps8392 it is quite a good climber, it has suspension lockout too that makes climbing easier, the bike could go quite fast too, I hit like 70kmh with it once on a downhill with it and on flat it could go quite fast too! The only complaints on the bike is the drivetrain and suspension being entry level so you might wanna change those, but otherwise it's a good bike

I cant seem to find any basic bike size guides for a xc setup, just ordered a Talon 3 29er size Large frame (following the company guidelines for height) but it turned out HUGE, have about 1 inch space between topbar and crutch while standing on ground. Any recommendations for what I should consider for simple beginner bike fit?
