Talaria Sting R Road Legal Stock UK First Look

We're stoked to introduce the Sting R road legal model to the range. The shred machine can be used both on the dirt AND the tarmac.
The road going Sting is largely the same as its dirty sibling - same centrally-mounted 5000-watt electric motor, same brakes, same wheels, tyres, and fully adjustable suspension but this time it’s fully legal for road use.
To make it compliant for the road, the Sting now comes with a new TFT digital dash display unit, road-legal headlight, taillight, and the obvious additions of indicators, mirrors, and a number plate bracket.
Speed is restricted to 30mph, so the bike can be ridden on an AM licence. This means the road-going Sting can legally be ridden by anybody over the age of 16 who holds a valid CBT, any driver who passed their driving test before 2001, or anybody who holds a motorcycle licence.
The 60V, 38Ah lithium-ion battery can be charged in just 4 hours from any standard 3-pin UK plug socket. It’s fully removable too and can be taken out of the bike in a matter of seconds, making charging a piece of cake. Or, if you prefer, the battery can be charged by plugging directly to the battery when fitted to the bike.
With the same DNA as the off-road model, the Sting gives the same grin-inducing ride, without having to worry about owning enough private land to make the most of it.

Because it's 90% the exact same bike as the off road version. They just added the thing at the back for number plate and indicators, added a restrictor (5 seconds to cut the wire) and a headlight plus different switchgear

They're 50/50s the depth is really shallow compared to dedicated dirt tyres.

Lovely piece of kit, they ruined it by adding unnecessary maintenance though especially the gear oil needing replacing. I went for a caofen f80 road legal its got the same performance as this sting R but much larger battery and zero maintenance.

The Coafen is much heavier though. How are you finding it? Trying to decide on xxx, sting r or the Coafen .

@@freedomofmotion the caofen is a beast even stock, I haven't felt the need to change anything, you might want handlebar risers if you're over 6 foot tall though. I wish there was a way to derestrict it from 55mph though,I know the bike could do a lot more than that considering it holds 55mph even going up a decent incline and part of my commute is on a 60mph A road. The range is definitely a lot better than a talaria I can get about 35 miles absolutely hammering it along fast roads whereas a talaria will get 20 miles in the same conditions. It's 20kg heavier but doesn't matter for road use which is where I use mine. It's cheap to insure as well although I only ever get third party insurance because they never help when anything goes wrong anyway so why pay more. It's the best electric bike I've ridden by far and the battery is really advanced too it's got a heater so you don't lose as much range in cold weather and it can be charged outdoors over winter.

@@JudeTheKZbinPoopersubscribe Thanks for that I am really tempted, I've got a full license so could mess around with different motor controllers or firmware if Coafen supports them. Also as I plan on using it to commute the self heating battery could be a real winner come winter. I've been in touch with Coafen about the 60AH battery as well and they'll do me one.

@@freedomofmotion I commuted over the entire winter on mine. The Manual says you can charge it down to -40c obviously it doesn't get that cold in the UK but most other bikes you risk damaging the battery if charged when temp is below zero. The 60ah battery will have some serious range I reckon 50 miles even when using it in the least efficient way which is extended riding at top speed.

@@JudeTheKZbinPoopersubscribe That's great, I rode a 750w e bike all through the winter before last when there was a lot of snow in essex, even though it had a 30 AH battery it really struggled had max speed of 10mph or so and was basically dead when I got back home ( 10 mile round trip) I was riding off road through the snow but even still. Usually the same route I could do 25 ( very bumpy) and have another 20 miles left in the tank when I was done. I've just seen Coafen are releasing the FX though so tempted to wait. I can manage my new commute of 8 miles each way on my e bike during the spring and summer 😁
