You’re not joking at all. I’m a female miner and it’s SUPER hard work and I own and operate my own hard rock mines. I never got into the surface placer stuff even though it’s like much much easier and i simply don’t like the open pit mines where they use dozers and excavators. I just don’t see that as being TRUE mining so yep I just do the hard rock mining. As far as the pants, I go through a pair of pants in about a month! But I prefer wearing those military type cargo pants because of all the pockets in those. I can carry the smaller stuff that I use stuffed into my pockets while I’m climbing up and down my ladders in the mine. Not long ago I found those real heavy duty cargo type work pants that’s made out of a heavy duty denim and is insulated for cold weather. Thier very durable and they cost ALOT more but at least they last longer than just a month or so.

Since you're in Jackson, swing on down Hwy 49 and hit Angels Camp, Jackass Hill, and Columbia.... you will be smothered in Gold Rush history there.... oh, and up Hwy 4 to Murphy's as well. The Argonaut Mine disaster was the subject of an original play called "Gold Fire." The play, written by Laurence Rutter, did four presentations at the Volcano Amphitheater. If you follow our gal, SJ you know that Volcano has a Amphitheater, as she previously so exceptionally reported. After four presentations there, the play moved to the Historic Sutter Creek Theater and opened last night. Commenting on the play, Beth Barnard, who has a role in the play said, "It was such a powerful event in our county's history, and it gives us a chance to do something original."

Madam Pantalon 'sthe third and final trial took a different turn, when an organization of suffragists became interested in her cause, and demonstrated in the streets to support her. She claimed at the jury trial that she was wearing pants when she landed on American soil. The jurors decided that there was nothing wrong with her attire, that too much talk about it was a waste of time, and that it was better to go hunting. Suize was relieved, but to put an end to it at once, she sent an official request to the authorities of Virginia City in order to obtain the right to wear pants. She was successful in her petition, which added to her fame. (from Wikipedia)

My Dad used to live in Jackson! Check out Fiddletown while you’re at it. My family used to have a gold claim about 6 miles up from there. Love your channel and the history you give of the places visited. A few miles up the road from Fiddletown on the left side of Fiddletown road, you’ll see an old cement cattle watering trough. There used to be an old cowboy friend of the family called Bill Soto and his dog Jack that used to live in an old green farmhouse there. Many good memories including homemade deer and rabbit jerky! After he sold it, they used the old house for some John Wayne movie and blew the place up for the movie. I have my memories though!
