The initial Kickstarter for Tales from the Loop was for the two art books and that was in 2014. The last stretch goal for it was to "create an RPG." Stranger Things was released in 2016. Simon did a lot of his art before 2014. The first Kickstarter was basically, I got a lot of art, want a book? ... so... No to the Stranger Things nonsense put forth here.
@WASD20

Yes. I actually realized that after I published this video. Found out most of the art was from long before Stranger Things. So not inspired by, but certainly in the same vein. Thanks for clarifying.

Have to correct you on one thing -- that there's abusive content doesn't mean it's not meant for kids. Firstly they handle such matters way better than you'd often expect, secondly I imagine it could be really therapeutic for a kid who actually has or has had a mother who drinks, for example, to explore such a situation in a game. Anyway, great review! (yes, I know, four year old comment, but I just bought the starter set and thus went to watch this today)

Hey, nice review ! I bought the core book recently and I loved it except I have some problems with it : first, I thought the Loop would be the center of the game but a lot of situations could exist even if there wasn't this giant particle accelerator and many of the events come from the exterior of the town, instead of coming from this Loop, so this is not really the center of the game. I also don't like the campaign at all because my players were not engaged by the story : (SPOILERS) first they see these talking pigeons, they do not have the reflex to follow them so I had to railroad them, they made it to the house of the ornithologist and then he explained them everything they had to know in a few seconds. The kids just followed the rails ... I decided to stop the campaign because the rest is just too railroading. In the third scenario, for example, the kids are forced to look for a missing dog to get a reward, and they just find dinosaurs by following it, by coincidence. So the game is actually pretty cool but the mysteries included in the book are not worth it, I prefer writing my own. But the scenario is also good to show the way the GM has to run the game.

I like this because I'm a very roleplay heavy GM. I'm actually not a fan of Dungeons & Dragons or any game that's like it. They are very combat oriented and when I run my games even if the game has a combat system. I could go two or 3 sessions before a shot is fired or any kind of combat happens. Yeah, and it's for that reason I also can't use maps in Minis because things are always in flux.

This game is so good! I love that I have a signed copy of Our Friends the Machines, from when one of the writers GMed one of the adventures at a con for my group. It was extra cool that Ellen Woods (the NPC that owns the video store) was, for us, played by the person she is based on :D I am experimenting with a cool a to play a campaign with my group, we have a discord server where they can play out day to day lives between sessions and develop relationships.. and I can plant NPCs and campaign clues and cues for coming adventures. I REALLY recommend it! message me if you wanna have a chat about it :)

Good review here, but I'm a bit confused. You state an age 15 character won't last long it the game (because 16+ end up not seeing what younger kids "see"), but there doesn't seem to be any element suggesting the game lasts beyond a mini-campaign. Where's the aging conflict in that, how do kids age in the game, and are there rules for longer campaigns?
@WASD20
@WASD20 4 жыл бұрын
Fair point. It is possible to have a long running campaign in which characters age out, but seems it would be rare.

i wish this wasnt a d6 based system. I find d6 systms pretty lacking for my personal tastes. d6 systems seem to always be based on very heavy storytelling (which is good and important) but usually make player actions entirely based on dice roll, while d20 systems usually have modifiers to the die roll that make success related only half way to die rolls. even with D&D 5e's Bounded Accuracy, player ability heavily influences it, but d6 systems usually say "having the skill allows you to even try to do (whatever the thing is)"

This series is not so much sci-fi as it is pompous European film “art” masquerading as television entertainment. The characters do their best with the scripts they’re given but you can tell they are themselves not vested in the characters they are playing. This means long sequences of zero dialog with even longer lasting shots of the characters melancholic faces. And talk about slow plot line development...my gosh I’m still trying to figure out what the point of the story was for episode four “Echo Sphere”. The only saving grace of this series are the visuals. These are just begging for a coherent story to be told. That alone keeps you watching and hoping. So far, though, nothing...
