I think it’s crazy how some people will say a toybiz figure still holds up but will say a figure from 2018 is “outdated”
@whozyourdaddy10 ай бұрын
Some of the ways Hasbro Legends does articulation is outdated though, in particular the disc neck, especially when Classified is doing it so much better.

I still have all my Toy Biz MLs. I have been going through them lately, and I have to say they are pretty much all very dated. I'm with Robo, though; if it wasn’t for the advances Toy Biz championed, we might not have the figures we have today. They are museum pieces and should be viewed as such, IMHO.

I still have that older Astonishing Cyclops on display. I was just SO happy to get that version of Scott in figure form that, even though I LOVE the newest version, I'm finding it hard to let go of that previous one. Also that variant Destroyer figure STILL looks incredible! Also seeing you go through your tubs is making me feel more comfortable with the idea of throwing some of my older figures in tubs to clear shelf space. Like I forget sometimes that basic Hasbro figures are TOYS and can handle being on top of each other in a bin (for the most part).

In my house it would be tales from the plastic drawers. I have all those figures squirreled away in plastic three drawer units like others do. I see the value in the history. Honestly I wish I had my 5” Toybiz toys to compare. Glenn Webb did these awesome retrospective videos of characters. Shartimus did one too. It’s fascinating to me the choices made to create action figures. We all go ga-ga for photo real printing. I like the older figures that looked nothing like the actors in the media. Ball jointed hips are poopooed on. They gave crazy ranges of articulation. Finger articulation makes you scratch your head. Many of those were very dumb and made the hands feet worse. All the choices fascinate me nevertheless. Yes I can see things added just because but ultimately they’re toys. Every now and again I just dive into the drawers. I know those outside looking at me see a hoarder. But these things fascinate me. Others gamble their money away. Going to a casino sounds like the most boring place on the planet compared to just admiring the things I’ve collected. Both could be shown as a vice I suppose. It’s all in the effect it has on your family or taking the place in helping others. Man I enjoy diving in. Thwipp!

Great video. I believe I have all of the figures you shared save the Destroyer variant of the Iron Man Thor Buster armor. For the life of me, I don't understand why Toy Biz went to those God-awful ball hips. They got it right with the original Iron Man and Captain America from Toy Biz ML Series 1. Those two figures are still two of my all-time ML caves, Especially the gold and burgundy horn-head Iron Man variant. I seem to remember the ball hips were introduced when Toy Biz had Gentle Giant Studios design a selection of base bucks for them a couple of series into ML. I hated them from the get-go, but MLs were the best game in town at the time, so what was one to do?

It can be bad, as I’ve been buying 2-3 of every figure: to complete BAFs, to have one for custom fodder (Esp if figure is “90% right”), and one “just in case.” It adds up QUICK. Esp if it’s a wave that hits clearance early. Or I *really* like the BAF. 🤦♂️😂

In my current rental place I'm living in, I can't display my collection at all. So they all go in tubs or stay in their shipping boxes, after I've played around with 'em for a bit. That said, I started putting my collection into tubs two house-moves ago; most of which reside in an external storage unit on the other side of town, as this house doesn't have a shed nor garage, and is too small for most of my stuff (mainly collect Transformers, Star Wars TVC/TBS, Power Rangers, Thunderbirds, with a bit of dabbling in TMNT, MK, Marvel, DC). Hoping next house I move to will have enough space to once again display most of my collection. However, I'm not someone who can get rid of my belongings. It's why I have both old and new representations of certain characters. I, just like Robo, will only be displaying the newer, better figures... but still keeping the old ones to look back on, and as part of my collecting history. I've no idea how people can just sell off their stuff; I once traded a gooey Digimon thingy back when the anime dub debuted while I was in primary school (over 20 years ago) - took a few years to set in, but I regret it, just as I miss several videogames I traded at my local game store during my teenage years.
