I’m really happy that people are starting to recognize the tales fo series ever since I played symphonia I feel in love with the franchise, Tales of abyss is my favorite so far in terms of story man I really love these skits in the game

Couldn't agree more, the level of content and complexity makes these series my favourite JRPG. The lack of localization doesn't even hinder me to play the game. I remember playing Vesperia and Graces F in JP version before they got localized and managed to beat the optional bosses in highest difficulty with the help of story guides just to understand the story

Man, when a game lives up to the hype! That moment in the game when you realize that there's no need to try to temper your expectations anymore because you are playing something that delivers on your ridiculous expectations! Would it be too unrealistic to hope that Arise does for Tales what Persona 5 did for Persona? I hope it manages to achieve that kind of success!

@@TheGamingShelf Yes, maybe, but I was talking in terms of how P5 made Persona so popular now that even those are not particularly familiar with JRPGs know of Persona. I am hoping Tales could also gain that kind of breakthrough in the west because of Arise. I mean, the series isn't necessarily the best JRPGs have to offer but it does play around with some great ideas and, if it gets that kind of success, the high budget and everything that went into Arise could continue for later installments, not to mention people in the west realizing that there are more than 3 JRPGs in the world.

I've been a fan for 17 years and the hype for Arise is real! I’m new to jrpgs. I finished tales of vesperia a few weeks ago. It was my first tales game and it was good in my opinion but I just couldn’t get comfortable with the controls/combos. After playing scarlet nexus and then the arise demo I’m really excited to jump into this one.

I just finally got to dig into this game last weekend. I’m obsessed, the game play and battle mechanics are so addicting. Especially once you get a few more chapters and the battles become more in depth. I’m still very early in the game but so far I’m absolutely loving it.

I first played the series through Zesteria (yeah.. I know lol) and then Berseria which is currently my 2nd favorite JRPG of all time, then I really enjoyed the vesperia remaster so when Arise was first revealed as what seems to be the first truly high budget Tales experience, I knew I had to get it. Having played the demo the other day only cemented that decision in my mind as this game looks absolutely gorgeous. Cannot wait!

I know I am late with this but I think you missed a very important point in the video that makes the game outstanding. The writing. If you are a fan of "Anime style" games ... you notice that most of those games come with a really cheap and childish story or conversations. Characters dont ask the obvious questions because its better for the story to not do. Tales of Arise isnt like that. Its conversations between the group are so mature. They feel relatable and they ask important stuff right away. Dohalim even comes up with some solutions to why things be like this ... and you will see that sometimes ... he is just right about it. A character ingame spoilers. Its so good. They have flaws, argue with each other and nobody gets left behind...even after there respective story arc. That is also something most other games cant do. Even Xenoblade can be to much anime sometimes and forgets a part of its cast. Tales of Arise is for people that like really good Anime RPGs without the typical Anime bullshit going on.

I played the demo, and overall it's great. I do miss the skits from previous games, were they are more comparable to a book you read and can use your imagination, while here, it's more of a comic book, where you only fill in the movement. So there is some "magic" lost that way by making it more "real", though it does look good.

Beware, I am all over the place with my thoughts. This is not particularly structured but don't worry about spoilers. I am not too big on the Tales series. Played 30 hours of Berseria, maybe 10 hours of Vesperia and dabbled into Zestiria. Symphonia looks like a game I would've loved if I had played it during the early 2000s. And even Arise took me the whole weekend to get hooked on. There are so many great things about ToA and on many levels the game looks polished. The music reminds me a lot of a certain franchise JRPG-fans love. It was clearly inspired by some of the modern re-compositions of FF7 music. I was blown away by some the facial expressions the art style would bring to life. Some of these look super authentic and believable. On the other hand I hate it when characters start literally screaming when they are supposed to cry. I have seen many people cry irl and it is the worst and most heart-breaking thing to witness when the person is in true emotional pain. These screams are total cringe and make me laugh. In fact, I am sick and tired of how game directors and voice actors are too incompetent to even remotely display authentic crying. The gameplay is fluent and satisfying but also super messy when you have many opponents and things to look out for. But then it is definitely skill-based as you have to learn a good bunch of mechanics, synergies, combos and how to dodge. Maybe I am old-fashioned in that regard but I really love how you can outgrind harder content (playing on hardest difficulty). The story is unique for a JRPG as it incorporates themes like slavery, racism, genocide and discrimination which are more prevalent in western art, literature and games. I like how the writing tackles these universal themes with differentiation. Not everything is black and white as we all should know. On the other hand it's not getting too complicated and can still be digested easily. I don't know how far I made it by now (just got all 6 characters unlocked and my party is around lvl 26) but the story definitely gets more interesting as it progresses. And the characters developed interestingly as it goes. Even the generic ideas work well for me. There is a lot to speak about here. What I was super positively impressed by was the fighting during the cutscenes. This is definitely worth mentioning.

I have this pre-ordered with auto download :) I was playing Symphonia yesterday and Abyss last week, lol. Graces F is my favorite so far and I think Zestiria is the weakest in the series. Xillia 1 & 2 were fantastic as well and Berseria is wonderfully dark :)

I have no respect for people that pre-order. Pre-ordering takes all the power away from consumers. How can we let game developers know that their game is garbage if they're getting paid for the game either way? They have no incentive to improve their game since it doesn't affect their revenue.

I've played every Tales game. Prior to this my favorite was Tales of Vesperia which I played back on Xbox 360 strangely enough. I just finished playing Tales of Arise on the XBOX Series X and it has finally dethroned Vesperia for me. Excellent game. Absolutely worth the purchase.

Arise has what i call Xenoblade syndrome in that the characters won't shut up during battles. Another small gripe i have with the game is that the OST doesn't match the mood of the game in some scenes. Otherwise fantastic game

Damn this game looks impressive. The way they tweeked the new combat in Berseria looks like the natural progression I'd expect from the Tales studio. (1. Make new experimental game, 2. tweek the game and improve poor ideas, 3. Do game 2 again but add even more content with a new story) Examples being 1 Symphonia 2 Abyss 3 Vesperia or Graces into Xillia 1+2. I think this looks similar enough to be game 2 after Berseria. Who knows how they will expand on Arise in 4 or 5 years.

I'm personally on the fence because they decided to get rid of co-op and sort of take apart some of their identity for another solo JRPG experience. It might look and feel great but it's just not the same.

Shion? Why did her name have to be Shion?! Yeah I’m in the middle of the Xenosaga trilogy right now and I love Shion in that game. I do want to play this eventually. I will have to really separate my mind from that Shion to this one. But I know it’s always going to be in the back of my head. Great review!

Hello i'm wondering if you or anyone else knows something relating to the dlc. It's come up that some of themdlc costumes have skill panels attached which also have artes attached. Do you know if there are unlockable later on or do we basically have artes hidden behind dlc now? I got the game and it's fun so far but the dlc doesn't even indicate there are artes behind them until you buy them apparently
