Imagine it as DragonBall, and each season being like Picollo Tournament, Cell Tournament or Boo Tournament with the big bad at the end, and each time Z fighters enter to help Goku or Vegeta to save the day...

Most likely the other participants (outside of the agents and hero teams) never progress that far to know that kof is connected to any of the events that happen. Only the finalists are the ones taken to a special venue and learn the true intentions of the tournament. Everyone else just go home and try to do better at the next one.

I think except for KoF97, which the tournament pretty much stop half way because of orochi Leona or Iori, all shady things only happen after the tournament concluded. so to most fighter in the universe, KoF is a legit world class tournament for challenging one self plus paid vacation.... so if you got the invitation, you pretty much have no reason not to join...

Why didn't you mention that Saiki is also a Will of Gaia? He's Orochi's equivalent in the west and he controls time while Orochi controls space. Also, Saiki didn't absorb Mukai's power. He just used his time powers to age him real fast and kill him.

According to official SNK canon, Ash didn't really sacrifice his existence, but rather his memory is was wiped clean when he "sacrificed" himself to stop Saiki. After Verse was defeated(KOF XIV) and all the people who has died during the Fatal Fury/KOF series were resurrected, Elizabeth and Kukri located Ash in the Ukrainian Carpathian mountains. So that means he could come back at some point as the series go on. That explains why he appears in KOF all-stars.

These were very helpful for understanding the lore, thank you. KOF is actually my favorite fighting game series closely followed by Mortal Kombat and Smash Bros. So many characters however it's kinda hard to keep track of who is good and who is evil. A lot of the characters seem to be more like anti-heros not straight up evil, but also not really goody two shoes

Great vids. I got into the kof series late starting with 99 so I didn't know much about the orochi saga and I found the ash saga confusing and hard to follow. Another thing that bothers me about the Ash saga is how it wasted a lot of great ideas for the other teams. For example the ending for the Art of Fighting Team in 2003 was looking very promising with Takuma being attacked by a mysterious person...only to find out that Takuma was just sick in the next game 😑 That was such a dissapointment. Another bad example is that the subplot with Ron and Kensou's Dragon Spirit was forgotten once again... The ending for the New Psycho Soldier in XI implied they were going to continue with that plot in the next game....but at the end we only had a Super Sentai parody ending in KOF XIII 🤦‍♂️ See what I mean?

Yeah its annoying they dropped those. It's a shame the development for the XII and XIII sprites were harder than they imagined and took way too much time. Its why some assets were reused like Hwa with Joe. I have a feeling they wanted to finish those subplots but couldn't or didn't want to for some reason like the Takuma thing.

ash is a fresh protag. compared to the straightforward, hot headed, brash attitude protag kof have before. ash is cunning, trickster but powerful, and easy going. i've not yet play 14 and 15, but from what i've seen, shun'ei is basically k dash but newer design
