I own Abyss for the 3DS and I like it, the only thing that sucks is that it's a pain to travel around the world map reminds me of how much of a hassle it was to play Symphonia. My favorite Tales game is still Xillia, Xillia 2 is my 2nd favorite because it expanded on it and the characters were more humorous as well in their skits although the thing that sucked was the debt. Abyss is my 3rd favorite, liked the story but the world map exploration tanked my experience kind of like Symphonia making me lose interest. Graces had great fighting mechanics but tanked in story when f started making poor Asbel end up with Cheria, would of preffered him to end up with Sophie.

It's amazing how music can take you back to a different period of time in your life. This was one of my favorite games during my formative years, and this song just takes me back and brings a smile to my face. The countless hours over Summer breaks I spent on this game... This makes me want to whip out my old PS2 & Memory card to check out my save files. I love this game so much!

This game is so loved, because it has one of...if not THE...best character story arcs, for a protagonist. Instead of your usual trope "story book hero saving the world", Luke is spoiled, pampered noble, unwillingly dragged into a conflict he wants no part of. Time passes, and he's confronted that he's not who he believes he is, but just a clone. After which, he retreats into a sullen shell. It's only near the end, that he finds the courage to accept who/what he is, and try to live life, by taking control of it. Absolutely phenomenal story. The entire cast had great character development/side stories, to boot. Add in the great gameplay, visuals, and soundtrack...an instant hit.

Spoilers man c'mon, I give a thumbs up though, because this is my favorite tales in terms of plot and character development, not just the protagonist every character has a story to tell and my god each and everyone one of them has dark or sad background and the ending omg THE ENDING! Let me say it again this Tales is my Favorite of all the tales games heck it is up there at the top of my JRPGs even outside the Tales series!

Am I the only one who liked that Luke was a total and complete asshole at the beginning? Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it would of got annoying eventually, so I'm personally thankful that his personality shift was timed where it was. But for me, it seemed like a more entertaining concept than your typical Mary Sue nice guy. It was my first tales game and it kinda made me more immersed, like Luke was saying what I would say if I was thrown into a cliche JRPG setting with no knowledge and people constantly talking about things I don't understand.

Never played a Tales Of before, and without even knowing the game nor the series, I got it for 3DS. I wasn't convinced at the beginning, but it soon conquered me. I just LOVE this game! It's long, intriguing, the characters and their development are cool, the combat system is nice, and there are lots and lots of things to discover (too bad that you can miss permanently some of them if you lose the event). Great game, for anyone who doesn't know it, I would recommend it.

It's really quite a contrast, how games were made and released back in the day compared to now. The Tales series had FIVE mainline entries in a single console generation. That's just not possible any more. That's why the PS1 and 2 are the best consoles we'll ever have, the sheer wealth of great titles to play.

I could listen and watch this for hours. Tales of the Abyss was and is by far my favorite Tales of game back in middle-high school because even though it wasn't my first, this one left the biggest impression on me than the first and fell in love with entire cast of characters and this opening which I have on my iPod and I'm NEVER deleting it. +lozsuperf1 I think Tales of the Abyss and Tales of Symphonia are probably better than the Final Fantasy series, but I would argue that as a whole series, Final Fantasy is better than the Tales series. None of the other Tales games have really given me the same emotions as Symphonia or Abyss, whereas Final Fantasy 4,6,7,9,10 are all masterpieces. But this is just my opinion.

I love this game so damn much. One of my favorite things was how they flipped the most cliche tropes on their head while questioning their morality. Chosen one and prophecies? What if there were two chosen ones, but only one could survive? What if you had to start wars in order to fulfill a prophecy to guarantee your countries prosperity? Other Tales games do this, but this one just blew me away with its execution. Probably my favorite game of all time, best story and characters at the very least...freaking Jade.

I have this game on the 3DS. The Rivalry Clash between Luke and Asch is epic. Also Luke's transformation from an idiot to the opposite was good too. Anyone else agree?

Tales of Symphonia got me into the series and Tales of the Abyss made me fall in love with the entire series, both truly amazing games. I wish Abyss had gotten a Remake for the PS4.

not really. not saying its the most popular game ever made but within the tales fanbase, a lot of people praise it. for good reason too. if i were to consider any tales of game underrated it'd have to be graces, its story might not be particularly memorable but the battle system is my favorite out of all the tales of games i've played so far.

Definitely worth it. I think it's absolutely fantastic. The characters are ones you can really care about, there's lots of witty dialogue, the gameplay is brilliant. It's a really engaging game, I found myself not wanting to stop playing it, so much so that on my first playthrough I once played it for seven hours straight. I absolutely love it, and it's definitely worth the buy.

I'm glad that I had the chance to play Tales of the Abyss. In fact, this game broughy me into the Tales series. I had no idea this game even existed because of the lack of advertising back then. But I'm glad I got Tales of the Abyss. It has an amazing story and characters, and a good battle system and graphics. IMO this game deserves a 9.5/10. I can't wait to play Tales of Xillia! Thumbs up for the Tales series!

Hukiolukio, didn't you know how hard it was for Namco to have her sing the opening for Xillia and Xillia 2. She's a huge famous singer and it was VERY expensive for them to hire her. G No wonder they reuse the same Japanese opening on the English version of Xillia and possibly Xillia 2. It will be even more expensive to have her sing the song in English.

Honestly i prefer the english one over the japanese one, yea the japanese one is good but i prefer the music of the english one. Much more calming and relaxing.

I realize you posted this a long time ago, but is there any way you can change the character's voices from English to Japanese? I don't like half the voices in English and after watching the anime, I don't think I will be able to make the switch to English when I get the game

I feel that the entire Tales series commands my attention better than any game series out there. The stories are always so addictive and the gameplay is easy to jump right into, no matter what game in the series you go for. I started with Tales of Symphonia back on the Gamecube years ago and played it endlessly. When I eventually moved on to Tales of The Abyss on 3DS years later, I was able to just get right back into it, no hand-holding needed!
