My most memorable Fudd experience was with a gun store employee. Historically Fudd gun store (only carried lever actions, bolt actions, revolvers, and 1911’s for years) but in the few years leading up to this had broken through to offer just about anything you can imagine. Unfortunately, while they’d updated their stock, they did not update their employees. Guy that worked there was a hardcore Fudd. If it’s anything short of an M1A that takes a mag, he won’t even talk to you about it. I come in on my 18th birthday and pick up an AR rifle to check it out. He asks me if I’m 21. I tell him no and he says that I can’t even hold the rifle to look at it since I’m not 21 and can’t buy it. News flash dipshit, I can buy ANY rifle at age 18. I explain this and he’s just not having it. I get mad and drive 3 miles up the road to another gun store who actually knows the state laws and buy myself a nice AR. Since Fudd depot is on my way back home, I stop again and walk in with the rifle in the box. I place it on the counter and tell the guy that I was right and that it was totally legal for me to buy an AR as evidenced by the rifle in the fucking box that I just bought. He grumbles and spouts off some shit under his breath and says that the good gun shop better hope the ATF doesn’t audit them. Basically refusing to accept that he was wrong. Although I’ve heard that the Fudd no longer works at that shop, to this day I’ve never returned. That incident was 11 years ago. Moral of the story, don’t employ fudds. Shop owner lost a sale that day and countless ones over the years as a result.

I can totally believe that. State laws are changing like crazy regarding guns, and I'm willing to bet that employee is still living in 1980 or something when the only true pro-2A state was Vermont - which pretty much hasn't changed their gun laws since the late 1700s, where it's legal to own and conceal without a permit pretty much any gun at age 16... so I've read. It annoys the hell out of me when people don't even know their own rights. Back when I lived near Chicago (Chiraq, as we called it), getting a firearm is a huge pain in the ass, and they have a gun registry, so I never bought one. Instead, I open-carried a full size 7" KA-BAR (the beautiful leather USMC one). Illinois law clearly states that it is 100% legal to carry a fixed blade of that size, so long as your intent isn't to go looking for trouble. I had the police called on me so many times that 911 dispatch was given a photo of me, and were told to disregard any calls concerning a man of my description UNLESS I was waving it around threatening people or something horrible. No joke, I had had the cops stop me on my walks about 5-6 times from "concerned citizens" calling in. Ridiculous. The way I dress has been described by many as "dapper." It's not like I'm in a hoodie with my trousers dragging across the floor like some thug. Anyway, cops would run my driver's license, I'd pass their background check, they'd tell me it's legal, but weird, I tell them the legal part is all that matters, and I'd be on my merry way. So I was 100% familiar with my rights as well as state and local laws when this jackass clerk in his 50s at the grocery store gets on my case, saying I can't wear that knife, that it's illegal. I told him it's completely legal, and the store's no weapons policy on the door CLEARLY states that policy is for EMPLOYEES ONLY. This stupid song and dance goes on for about a month, and one day he just refuses to ring me up. He's the only clerk on duty at that time (I took my walks late at night when it cooled down). He smugly says he talked to his friend who's dating a cop, and his friend says what I'm doing is illegal. I laugh, and tell him to cut out the middle man and just call the cops, right here, right now. D-bag calls 911. He gives my description to dispatch. I can hear the lady say, "What's he doing?" and he says I'm wearing a huge knife at the checkout. Dispatch lady asks if I'm trying to rob him, and he says, "No, but-" and I hear an annoyed dispatch say, "Sir, this number is for emergencies only. Are you aware it's a crime to call 911 outside of emergencies? Have a good night, sir." She hangs up on him. The look on his face was priceless, but he still refused to ring me up. Best part of all this is the store sends me a random survey e-mail, and at the end of the survey, you can manually type suggestions or complaints. I complained about the clerk harassing me. Later that same day, the owner of the store calls me and asks me to come in and talk with him in person to better understand the situation. So I did, wearing pretty much my usual outfit, knife and all. The owner apologized profusely, complimented my knife, said he owns one just like it. He heard me out, and he said that clerk was wrong and did not reflect the views of the store. He then gave me a $500 store gift card, said he'd deal with the clerk, and that he hopes to put all this behind us. I agreed. Never saw that jackass clerk ever again. They replaced him with a sweet elderly lady who always greets you with a smile and rings you up without the social commentary.

I sometimes wonder how all these fudd gun stores managed to stay in business for as long as they do. Each of us seems to have experienced a near exact clone of these places regardless of geography, ethnicity, or geriatricity. Maybe as cash heavy businesses they launder money for the money b? Guess that might explain all of Wayne LaPierre's vacation homes though.

Either you're full of shit or the other gun store legitimately commited a federal crime. Liscenced gun stores cannot sell a fire arm to anyone under 21. This has been federal law for ages. The only exception is for private sales the "auction loophole" as most people like to put it. My money is on you being full of shit as i doubt a gun store would want to get in trouble for some rando 18 year old.

Hearing the “its probably killed someone” comment reminded me of this story of when I bought my first milsurp Mosin after earning my Bachelors in History: I was in a local outdoor store perusing the used-milsurp gun racks while looking for a mosin, as I knew they were typically cheaper to buy an inexpensive to shoot at the time. I had finally found one with a 1942 date stamp and I was quite elated. I was getting a feel for it when I’m approached by a older fellow in his mid 60’s, predominantly bald with a large grey-white handlebar mustache. Keep in mind this interaction was about 10 years ago, so I shall do my best to paraphrase: Fudd: “What do you want that Commie trash for?” Me: “I’m sorry, what?” Fudd: (raises voice) “I said, what do you want that commie trash for?!” Me: “This is history, for better or for worse this gun and the many like it effectively shaped the 20th century. To own a gun like this is to better understand that history. That and the ammo is pretty cheap by comparison.” Fudd: “Its a piece of shit, go buy something American!” At this point I left to go purchase the rifle and a carrying case for it. He was still going on attempting to make some asinine point, but I had stopped caring. I had given him enough of my time and patience to him during that short conversation than he deserved.

@@travishabursky4362 sadly now adays, it's nearly impossible to find a good mosin for a good price and a good barrel. Those salted primers are really only a pain when one doesn't clean the barrel right away. The one I got sadly wasn't kept that well and there's a little bit of pitting, and the rifling is pretty worn. After cleaning, it's a fun gun to use. Though the accuracy on mine is debatable at a distance of 75+ yards

Hopefully this makes it into the next video. This fudd story of mine happened back in the summer 2017 . I had just purchased a MSAR STG556(Aug Clone) took to rabbit creek gun range just outside of Anchorage (AK). Typically an older crowd but there was always a mix of young people. My STG556 is left handed and i was looking for a bench that would have a wall next to me so I don't pepper someone with brass. Luckily I found a bench and was walking up to it when an older gentleman with his daughter (I'm assuming) pushed passed me and took the bench. Unfortunately the only other bench available was to the right of them. I asked them politely if they'd mind switching because my gun is left handed and I didn't want to give them a spicy shower of hot brass. The older gentleman told me, "Hell no, there is no left handed guns and you're just trying to take my spot because it's closer to the rack". The rack was just a little area where you grabbed your stand and base which I already had. I then proceeded to tell him okay but I can't promise you the brass won't fly at you. I take a few shots( 1 shot every 5 seconds) when I feel a hard tap on the back of my head. I turned to look expecting him to yell at me about my brass but instead he starts yelling at me about how I have an SBR and that I need to show a tax stamp or he's calling the range master. I laugh at him not believing what I just witnessed and he gets mad and storms off to the RO. He brings the RO over and starts lying about how I'm rapid firing and being unsafe with my SBR that doesn't have a tx stamp. The RO inspects my gun and confirms it's not an SBR. After that incident the old fart then proceeded to point his shotgun right at me as he's loading it. I yell, "Hey watch it!" And move the barrel out of my face and he has the audacity to tell me, "don't be a puss, it's not even loaded". The RO comes over and starts yelling at me that I have one more strike and I'm out. I inform him what the old guy had done and the RO replied, " Well I didn't see it". After the RO left the old guy smirked at me and I had my last straw. I mag dumped my STG556 and sent brass showering all over him. I'm already packing up and leaving when the RO yells at me to pack up my brass and leave. I start picking up the brass when the old guy comes back up and asks if he can have it. I smile and tell him sure as I proceed to drop all 25 spent casings into the trash.

Just found this series and am enjoying all the tales of the majestic fudd in his natural habitat. It seems to be good therapy. Today's encounter takes place in Northern NM on a payed city/public range with several adjacent sections that shared range officers between them. One 50 yard section, one 200 yard, and one that was even set up for 1000 yards. Each had steel set up at various intermediate ranges. The rules stated that each area must have an active range officer for any shooting to take place in that area. OK so far. Every Sunday a foursome of single shot old west FUDDs would pretty much stake out the 1000 yards range and with the help of their fudd range officer friends keep anyone else from using it by claiming they were "competing." Not to big a deal usually for me since I mostly used the 200 yard range. However, the fuddery escalated when the range started to allow them to use a golf carts to check their shots (no spotting Scopes here) These potato shaped men would then shoot once or twice then pile into their carts, drive right up to the steel, banter for a few minutes, respray all their steel, and drive back. This would shut down every section of the range for twenty minutes for every five minutes of actual shooting since all their range officer pally boys went with them. Further, since their friends were "competing" anyone who fired more than one shot every 5 seconds with their wicked ars or aks was quickly shown the door by management. Keep in mind this, partially paid for by tax dollars range, 5-6 shooters were thus paying the same fees to watch all of their shenanigans. Thanks for the therapy

I have the same model, a 1943 Long Branch. Nicest bolt action I've ever fired, even nicer than some >$2K bolt actions. Barely ever fired. If I had to guess, it has less than 1,000 rounds through it. Bore and head spacing seems almost factory new. I still can't believe I bought it in October, 2020 for $200 just because it has a sporter forestock, had no sights ($100 to replace), mismatched serial numbers, and because they just got it from an estate sale, didn't have inventory space, so priced it to move. I wish they were more abundant and in great condition, because they are fantastic rifles, if you get your hands on one that isn't totally shot out.

yeah, about those rusty mosins. it was the cheapest boomstick you could put your hands on, so i bought one when i turned 18. now i've shooted it many times, ammo was cheap, eventually i learned how to not care about the recoil (yeah i know, mosins have not trememndous recoil, but i was 18 with barelly no muscles and a lot of fat behind it) and i had fun. now one day i as usual go to the range and i'm shooting close to a guy, this guy has one of those fancy "sniper rifles" that cost milions and a swarosky scope that it's worth 2 times my car. and he's shooting at 100 meters, exactly next to my target. well i was like, not really focused, and i shoot his target not mine. 10 seconds later he starts complaining that i "destroyed" his target and i was an idiot and i felt bad, i mean, i was wrong after all. but then i see his pristine target... exept for a precise hole in the center. wich i did. and they guy was not able to score a single center in like 20 shots and then he went away bitching and i was laughing like an idiot , and i love to tell this to everyone that spends billions on rifles because you need good aim, not good rifles, if you can't drive a a pryus you don't need a ferrari.

My local range is the opposite. You drive up and theres bullet holes in range rules sign, trash cans, dumpster, parking concrete posts and pretty much do whatever you want if you’re by yourself which is most of the time. This range in 5 miles out of town in the desert so you won’t hit any bodies house, just mountains and burms. I don’t know what kinda idiots start shooting shit before they even get out of the parking lot but at least I never had the pleasure of dealing with them.

I live in El Paso Texas and this isn't necessarily a Fud story, just a anti-gun cultists incident. Happened a couple months after the El Paso shootings. I just like to teach (not a licensed instructor) NEW shooters basics and safety and good habits at my private range. El Paso is very Democrat so the gun culture was very small here so I just want to do my part and push good information out to people who've only held a gun at the gun store. There was this female who was a friend of a friend that came out with us and wanted to know everything she needed to know. Standard stuff like safe handling and loading and cleaning and of course basic shooting. She had brought her father with her who is that typical of die-hard liberal Mexican (im Mexican too) that has been living in the Dem fantasy world since the 1960s. And this man had a comment about everything I said aside from his eye-rolling. Apparently he thought she shouldn't go alone so he decided to invite himself. Which is fine but I never had a Heckler in a class before lol. Now the why I like to teach new shooters is I put up a rifle rack that I made with my brother out of wood from a picture online and I put on display every single example of every type of weapon, (pump shotgun, AR, AK, Mosin, Model 10 revolver, and M&P 9mm, and a mossberg patriot as a hunting rifle). And I was introduced into the female the basics of every weapon that way she has a general idea (and gateway drug) to becoming a gun owner. The father immediately stepped in and said "why the f**k would you need this people slaughtering gun, this is the gun used at the shooting" (pointing at the AR lmao) then stating that don't even touch the rifle then pointed at me saying that this psycho it's probably planning something with his gun and don't get your fingerprints on it. I then told the gentleman my hundred-year-old m91-30 Mosin which looks like a hunting rifle due to Media propaganda has actually killed people, while my three AR15s that I hope will hopefully live their service life and be passed down to my great grandkids (3 barrels later ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ) never spilling a drop of blood. Then he said "why do I need it if you aren't planning anything!" Inciting that I'm just another gunman ready to snap. And I told him "it's because of 2nd Amendment does not require me to have a reason for anything. It just gives me the right to do so. Every human has a basic right for self-preservation and which is why your daughter is here because she made that choice and believes her life is worth saving If God forbid she ever needs to. instead of interrupting my class would you please sit down and let your daughter learn something instead of being interrupted every 5 minutes" that old man with nothing left to do went out to my front yard and sat in the car after having a little discussion with his daughter. To this day that female still comes out with us with every once in awhile for our fun Cook-Out and range time at my Ranch. And she has grown to be an excellent shot and had brought her friends once (my evil anti-gun plan was working, spreading the gun culture). There are many times that I funny train a person once and never saw them again but later heard from the Grapevine that they were scene (in our old shooting spots before I bought my Ranch) teaching new individuals in our fantastic dysfunctional culture. Moral of the story is there are some horrible gun instructors and some Old-Timers that don't let go over their Dogma. But there are good instructors out there that are Joe simply teachings of habit and don't need fancy certifications or super spy jobs to teach people good habits and spread the truth about anti-gun narratives.

I have a short experience of mine that I experienced in the early days of my Military Surplus collecting. After weeks of research I wanted to find and purchase a Mosin-Nagant M91/30. I became very interested in the history and the fact that they were very affordable at the time. Naturally I went to my local gun shop and asked the gentleman behind the used gun counter if they had any Mosins and in a very condescending manner, he told me “I hate those guns. Don’t buy them.” I asked him why he felt that way and he proceeded to list off how the Mosin platform was an inaccurate, unreliable trash pole and it was not fun to shoot at all. Oddly, this guy was likely in his mid-20s and he talked exactly like the Fudds I’ve run into before. Even then as a young kid, I didn’t really believe him. A few weeks later I went to another gun shop nearby and found dozens of Mosin 91/30s for sale for great prices. I ended up buying a nice Arsenal refurb 91/30, which I know isn’t super valuable but I just wanted a Mosin. After I shot the rifle I fell in love immediately. A few months passed by and I ended up at the first local shop where the employee spewed his BS and saw that they had a Mosin for sale in the Used section. It was an Arsenal refurb like mine and they were asking over $400 for it, which was over twice what I paid for mine. I just found it hilarious how that guy was shitting on Mosins and then turns around and overprices one for, at the time, more than twice the value. I’m very glad that I didn’t listen to this guy because that Mosin that I bought made me fall in love with Milsurp firearms and equipment and I now have a collection that I’m very proud of. Didn’t know if you’d consider this a Fudd story, but I thought I’d share it for the comment section anyway. Cheers from Michigan.

Hey Mike, I have a quick Fudd story that actually happened this Monday. Forgive my Grammer, I went to school in California. I work at an auto parts store and we were doing annual inventory. Basically, two People from every other store show up to get it done. Well, while the inventory team was on lunch, two older guys were talking about guns and one of the mentioned the SKS. I mentioned my Type 56 SKS and Type 54 Tokarev. I mentioned how I have heard bad things about the Norincos made for Importation but the military weapons seem to be very high quality. One of them disagreed and said that all of them were good. I wasn't going to argue, I was just going by what I have read online and what a few Gunsmiths have said, but since I haven't ever had hands on experience, I wasn't going to tell him he is wrong. But here is where it gets really Fuddy. When we go onto the subject of ammo, he was talking about how it's so expensive to shoot, which I agreed. But I mentioned that you can still get bulk surplus for a more reasonable price sometimes. One of the guys, who I believe was at least 60, said something like, "You run the risk of getting a Salted round." At first, I figured he was referring to corrosive ammo and I was going to tell him that all he needed to do was run water through his bore and action and clean the gun quickly after shooting it. He mentioned a video, that I have seen before, of some middle-easter guy shooting his AK. He mentioned that the guy in the video shot what is called a "Salted round." I have heard about in Vietnam the US military would find 7.62x39 and some accounts say they put explosives in it, others said they just filled the rounds with as much powder they could. Nevertheless, they would put this ammo back where they found it so the 4th round would blow up the VCs AK. So I know he wasn't wrong on that account, but when he started saying that I shouldn't buy any surplus Ammo that came out of a communist country/during the cold war. I immediately wanted to start walking away. I mentioned how I have had no problem with the Romy surplus I shot through my Mitchell bastardized K98K Mauser. He told me to not trust any ammo from Eastern Bloc countries. He might as well have said that the US sent CIA agents into every ammo plant behind the iron curtain. Though he didn't say it directly, he heavily implied it and I just had to walk away after that.

Interesting story. Just to add to that, perhaps you can use this as your info. Ive shot about 60k of 7.62x39 out of a howa1500 and SKS. All that ammo was surrplus from a can. Ive had about 2-3 failed to fire primer struck rounds. No squibs, no failed to extract, no nothing. Also about 10k of 7.62x54r, all out of my 1934 Mosin with original barrel, and about 1k out of a custom bull barrel from McGowe. Ive had about 20 rounds max of primer struck and failed to fire, and zero of any other issues. Just sharing my experience. I saved so much money on this, a fudd is worth less than that.

I understand the mentality of wanting a gun or blade that's been used to take a life; I used to think that way when I was a kid, until my dad set me straight, explaining the reality of war, as he's a Vietnam combat veteran. The reasoning behind that kind of thinking is not unlike wanting to date women who've had a child; you know the plumbing works. In the case of a firearm or bladed weapon, knowing it was used to take life is a reassurance and affirmation that this weapon is gonna be up to the task, God forbid you're in a bad situation. It's like when a hunter points to a gun or bow, and proudly says it's taken more deer than any other weapon in their collection. Again, it's an affirmation of functionality, an attempt to wash away any doubt or insecurity that may come from ignorance of the subject's mechanics. It's logical, if not a bit misguided.

Hey Mike B loved this series been a fan of your channel for about a year, this series gave me a lot of laughs and was really entertaining and informative. But now here's some of my Fudd stories Pick the ones ya like but most of these are Fudd Mini stories Still my dad is a gun guy, he's owned lots of surplus rifles over the years and a few more modern guns like AR-15 and AKs But I've heard him repeat various Fudd lore myths from time to time. Some of these he used to believe but he came around to knowing better. An example being "Muh stopping power" And that 30 carbine is "weak" cuz he was telling me and one of his friends some stories about how he shot a deer multiple times at range and apparently "hit" the deer a lot of times and it wouldn't die. So he bought into that Myth for awhile. Another being the AK-47s are inaccurate, and that the M1 Garand ping has gotten people killed before, and I used to actually subscribe to these and believe some of these, and then I actually started reading a lot on the internet and watching videos that contained firearm knowledge that wasn't just. Video games ya know? An example being the AK-47 being inaccurate myth, Brandon Herrera did a really good video on that. But thankfully my dad doesn't really believe most of these myths anymore, but he still says stuff from time to time like that the Lee-Enfield was designed for volleyfire and that the Carcano rifles were piece of s*** but thankfully due to the internet I could easily dispel those myths. Other than my dad I've Heard lots of the various Fuddlore you talk about a lot. Mostly the stuff would be in gun shops whenever I would out of curiosity ask a bunch of questions about Firearms I found interesting, and talked about Firearms with various people would spout these myths, I've never heard of younger person say any of the fuddlore. Anyways I hope this wasn't too long till this point, but I saved the best for last, so there's this guy that claims to be a Vietnam veteran we call him crow and he's a family friend(hes also kind of a fudd older guy in his 60s still in decent shape) , he used to be one of my bus drivers. Always wears some army stuff. Never really wore the "vietnam vetren" hats or patches. But had really long "hippy" hair from like an 80s hair band and yet complained about hippes all the time. ( he's also said various racist slurs around me and stuff like that) But he's thinks he knows everything when it comes to a lot of stuff, that includes guns/the millitary, and of course you would hear the standard myths like the 45 ACP stopping power and some of the other myths like the AK-47 inaccuracy and whatnot( when I was young I used to think he was smart and cool. But now as a guy in his 20s its really anoying) , but what really strikes me was one-time me, him and my dad went to the shooting range, and it was a longer range rifle range, that went all the way up to 1000 meters and before that he bought a Romanian PSL rifle with the standard Russian Dragunov scope or a Romanian copy of it, and he was shooting I don't know if it was 100 or 300 M, but he couldn't hit anything he tried to hit(that well) and when we went to actually check the target his grouping was nowhere near the bullseye. Which is kind of strange(and hilarious. Since he had stormtrooper aim despite being from a still postion on a table!) I guess if there was a takeaway from this, is being raised by people who spout Fudd lore/being around fudds and not knowing better is harmful to society and Gun owners reputation But it also sadly boils into movies and video games. So this is a story about the harmfull side effects of Fuddlore on a young impresoniable minds of kids.

A gunshow fudd in little rock ar. was trying to sell me a walther p38 that some asshat had cut the barrel down on. He was saying it belonged to a German officer who cut it down to fit in his coat pocket and had probably seen or done all kinds of horrible things. 🙄

Well Mike I'm not sure if this qualifies but I have a story. It was mid summer last year and I had just recently bought a yugo M48B and a Swedish M41 6.5x55mm . Since I hadn't shot either past 75 yds my cousin an I took them to the local range at Hillsdale KS where they have a few 200 yard lanes. Upon arrival after unzipping my rifle bags and taking out my rifles the RSO comes over and stops us from shooting. He asked if we had shot them at that distance before. I told him no that is why we are here. He then huffs and said well I'm not sure if I can let you shoot here. I asked him why and he said it wasn't safe for me or my cousin to shoot at that distance without a scope. I asked him if he would just let us try to hit a silhouette target at 200 just to see he huffed again and said let me get spotting scope and I'll let you shoot 5 shots each. He then continues on to say he can't have me just shooting the stands or others targets. I then show him the sights on the M48B and explain its "point blank" is 200 meters. He reluctantly let's us shoot and we both manage to squeeze off 3-4 MOA groups with both rifles. He then says in a pissy voice "Well I guess you can shoot but you two have to be at the far lane on the end." Needless to say I don't go there much because of that RSO and his constant attitude towards me for owning "cheap junk". Thanks for letting me tell my short story.

Hey Mike I think the fudd camo looks great especially the hat 😂😂. It’s the head inside it that makes the difference. Great series makes me laugh every time. All fudd’s hail the 30-06 Springfield they can thank the 7x57 Mauser for that one ☝️ funny how fudd’s forget where there great hunting rifles really came from even there beloved Winchester M 70 is no more then a copy of a commie action. Can’t wait to see some more helmet test and maybe some of your collection in action on the range. 👍👍.

I won’t saddle you w the whole story. My range gave me the boot for me, showing off to my friends, whom I brought to the range one morning, to try out the S&W 500. They all had a go at the 20ish mark. Most only got one off (weren’t gun people. I live in MA. Scared shitless) needless to say, one of em, Jay, blasted apart 2 sight stands. I cleaned up the debris and we got outta there. We were alone, thought we got away with it. Next club meeting I got lambasted by 4 octogenarians who apparently saw us. Yet did not confront at the time. I got bitched out for being an “irresponsible little rich kid” making a mockery, a mess, and I had to pay for the stands and never come back. I just showed how fun, jovial, firearms can be to 5 people. They eventually all bought a gun of some type from that day alone. Yeah. Thanks…

Surprised in your views on the "rifles that killed people" thing. I started my interest in guns through WWII collecting and I wanted one of two things. Pristine condition or late 30s manufactured. My reasoning being is that it was more likely to be used and seen action as well as prewar "non rushed" manufacturing. I didn't "get my rocks off" because it may have killed someone. But as a historic collector I thought it's use during the appropriate era gave it more value to me. I would imagine what the rifle saw during the war. For the American rifles in particular I did take a slight pride in the fact that they may have put down some Nazis or Imperial Japanese but it wasn't that big a deal. My Garand is a September 1941 Springfield and it's got a lot of mix match parts so I figured it either saw action or got claped out as a training rifle. I think use and character just affects the machine spirit of the rifles a bit. I have a 43 1903A3 and a 43 long branch Lee Enfield that are pristine and I'm guessing never issued or used seriously. The Garand, Mauser, Mosin, Ariska, and Carcono all appear to have been used for something. I just think it's neat that they have history. My only hope is that the Axis rifles weren't used on Americans.

Couldn’t have said it any better in regard about people buying guns for the sole reason of wanting to kill someone in self defense. That shit is why I alienate myself from the community because I don’t want to hurt anyone I want to understand how the firearm works, challenge myself with it, etc.
@austincummins7712
@austincummins7712 3 жыл бұрын
I know many people whose reason for purchasing was solely self defense, but I have yet to personally meet someone who actually expressed that they WANT the opportunity to do so. Don't get me wrong- I know these people exist- and I hope for their sake they never get the opportunity to find out how wrong they were about this "desire". I don't know that I could categorize the majority of the community to be like that though- or even a large portion of it (to be clear, not saying that you implied this either). I know people who will make pithy remarks about it- saying stuff like "Try to carjack me and you will find yourself with rapid onset lead poisoning" (you know the types of phrases I am talking about). To me, that is chest-beating and ego stroking (depending on what prompts them to say it, how they say it, etc.). It is an oversimplification of a heavy and not so simple thing (self defense), but that being said, that doesn't express a desire to do it necessarily, so I don't count that (at best, it is a verbal statement of resolve that they would do it if they had to, which isn't saying much of anything about their actual resolve if the situation arises anyways, because anyone can move hot air over their vocal cords). All in all, I find this an interesting topic, because people go through phases as they become interested in firearms [in my experience], depending on how young they are when it happens, what draws them to it in the first place, etc. I have seen many who had their ego attached to the fact that they carried a gun, and learned really quickly that this mindset was unacceptable. I really want to understand what mental pathway someone goes through to arrive at an actual desire to be in that situation though, because we are talking about a completely tainted mindset in this regard that is heavily frowned upon in this community by most. My biggest question is how long do those people think like that before [hopefully] adopting a "wiser" mindset- are we just seeing them during a period of seriously flawed and disillusioned thinking about something like this? Or is this a persistent mindset that never evolves in the people who hold it? I mean, eventually even that guy who just can't wait for the zombie apocalypse comes to realize that their fantasy rendering of how this event would occur was just an illusion, and that the actual zombie apocalypse would not be any fun at all- in fact it would totally suck for literally every person in the world [except maybe the zombies] when you actually start to think about the implications (imagine that). It is really not much different than that, just replace zombie apocalypse with lethal force encounter in self defense. How long can someone play their made up movie sequence in their mind before realizing that it would actually suck a lot and you would do everything you could to avoid that in reality. Oh, and don't even get me started if they have a family/children to traumatize along with themselves in the event- your 9-year-old son is not going to forget how you had to live in a hotel for a week and buy him a replacement XBox because his original one is covered in blood, brain matter, and skull fragments along with the rest of the living room.

Back in the day I bought a century tantal ,(with the . 224 instead of .221 u.s barrel, thanks century) before I built a private range on my own land I took it to a local range to try it out, also bought one of my 5.45 saiga converted to use standard ak furniture and 74 muzzle devices and a beat up wasr-10 in the lane next to me so some 60-70 y/o Fudd with a badly butchered 1917 Enfield complete with tacky cut down stock and Tasco Walmart scope. As I begin to try to zero the tantal and become amazed at how I could not hit anything because keyhole barrel (thanks century +green mountain) the Fudd next was like "he he he, dats dem old CUMMUNIST BARRELS DEY CANT HIT A BARN" I then changed over to the 5 45 saiga and was able to ring the 100y gong every time, while bubba'd Enfield was about to have an seizure because his cheap Tasco scope would not zero. Finally he left while mumbling about how those ayyykks are too loud with their "tank" muzzle break, which was just a standard arsenal u.s made 74m brake

Got a Romanian AK built from a parts kit, had a few hash marks on the handguard, which leads me to believe some of those parts may have been involved in conflict, and possibly killed people in action. Can't say that knowing those parts may have killed someone excites me, but there is something cool with having some trench art that lends some historical context to my firearm. Of course I'd feel the same way if some soldier have carved his chick's name in the handguard

Hey - this isnt as much of a fudd story as it is a range ninja meets fudd story; So my range is an indoor range. I own a 9mm pistol and an sks. The folks who run the range are chill and generally let folks use whatever they got - including full autos if you are rich enough to own one. My cousin had a gun that hasnt been fired in years, so me and my Brother In Law took it to the range. Its a tiny .22 pistol so we had fun one handed mag dumping it. We were sure we'd get called out but nope - in fact we had to stop a guy who handed a desert eagle in .50ae to his less than 90lb gf with a full magazine. She did fire 1 shot and it nearly broke her wrists - im being figurative here. As we are leaving we see a guy who is being escorted out. Confused at first, but I immediately smell it. A smell that I learned very well in college and that if you know you know. Its a green herb called Marijuana. As I am watching this, dumbfounded, I realize that us being silly and mag dumping a .22 pistol onto a target at 6 yards is nothing compared to what these poor staff deal with. Im blessed to have a range with staff who are chill and never judge. Shoutout to 717 armory!!!

This isn't a fudd story so much as a range story. So this younger guy (17-20 ish area) was attempting to reserve a spot on a full range. We're going to shoot ARs on the 50 yard to zero my red dot I had just gotten for my birthday. Anyway, so we politely tell him that we're going to take the spot because we're a group of five. So we get set up, get everything ready and start shooting. A while later, the guys dad shows up with anothet couple. We proceed to move to a vacant bench to ne courteous and avoid any conflict. So they take up 2 shooting stations, and use one at a time. Not using the other, and theres a group of 2 guys waiting to use the bench. Well the group of 2 end up leaving, and the younger guy and his group proceed to use one of the benches only for case and gun storage. Not for shooting at all. There was a 2 minute period where they actually used both benches. Very annoying stuff, please do with this what you will. I enjoy watching your videos mike, keep up the good work! 👌

ok I know this is my second comment on this video. But I remember talking to a dude at a gas station older fellow in like his 40s/50s(this was a few years ago, but it still is funny that he claimed he was in the army at that time) had a vetren hat on or something like that. but he said that "I was in the army I would know" he Claimed that he was a Vietnam vetren since we were talking about the Vietnam war and when I brought up the Use of flamethrowers against people and how it was "fucked up" he tried to tell me that the US army NEVER used flamethrowers on people during the Vietnam war/when he was in the army. What strikes Saying "they only used them to defoliate things and never used them against the enemy" This really pissed me off/bothered me since his only source was "trust me I know" /the "you need to read into it" kind of deal. but he *INSSISTED* that the army didn't use flamethrowers against enemy infantry in nam. Which I *know* they did. (or maybe im wrong) But last time I checked the M202 FLASH(the replacement for the M2 flamethrower) from around that time is still "officially" in service, even though in really small numbers if not at all. I didn't feel like arguing with him all night so I had him bag my snacks and went. All while cursing him out inside my head. Haven't seen him at that gas station since. Maybe im wrong maybe they didn't use flamethrowers against NVA/VC in Nam, but I HIGHLY doubt it. Feels good to get that off my chest. most of my "fudd" stories are smaller interactions, nothing really special, mostly it would be I walk into the gun section of a sporting goods store/gunstore and then talk up the gun guys at the counter for awhile and usually the older fellows, sometimes younger ones when I ask a lot of questions about guns and such. sometimes we talk history, but often I hear these same fudd myths casually spouted out. most of the time I keep my mouth shut.

My story unfortunately isn’t too fuddy at all almost the opposite. When I lived in Southern California, the range I always went to was run by boomers. Oddly enough these boomers weren’t too fuddy (said they didn’t care if we mag dumped 30 and would just assume we were LE and allowed to have it). I would go to the range with my milsurps and had my 91/30 and said boomer asked me if it was an 03 Springfield. I just laughed it off and said no. When I took out my actual 03 Springfield, the same boomer asked me if I could even hit anything with it. I smirked at him and proceeded to print softball size groups at 100 meters with shitty Pakistani 30-06 that looked sketchy. Needless to say when he saw the target he was impressed. Now that I think of it I should’ve told him it was a low number rifle that I’ve shot core lokt ammo through. Not the best story but I’ve never really had an encounter with a true fudd.
