Tales From Cuckoo Land * An Old English Cottage Craft Room *

My home is over 200 years old, it’s shabby and cosy. I share it with my three sons and my husband. This is a room all to myself that I’m so grateful for. The walls are minimum 70cm thick and we have no foundations. The house is built directly onto the rock.
EDIT :: Until the 30th April 2023 all money raised through this YT channel went directly to my sons previous special needs school. From May onward I will support the school in a different way that’s less sporadic ::

My son, Bill, goes to gorgeous, tiny, little special needs school for gorgeous special children. Bill and his friends there all need just a little more care, attention, love and guidance to help them access friendships and education. Bill has autism (and a variety of other issues such as Sensory Processing Disorder, ADD, Dyspraxia, Global Developmental Delay and Klinefelters Syndrome) and most of his school mates have similar challenges as well as Dyslexia across the board. Bill's school is woefully underfunded for a variety of reasons that would take pages of text to explain. The teachers aren't well paid yet they are constantly buying supplies the children need that most pupils don't require; such as pen grips and fiddle toys to aid concentration etc...I have been fundraising for a few years now and with your help have managed to help subsidise school trips, buy sensory room equipment, Occupational Therapy equipment, outdoor tables and chairs, a trampoline...and a mini bus!! #billsspecialbus 🤩 We have a lot to pay for soon as the school is moving premises and is taking on 20 extra pupils. This is all amazing news but means the pressure is on financially. All this fundraising helps a phenomenal school that has given so many children a future they would not have been able to access. Thank you so much for any kind of support you give us.

We are buggled in together. This lockdown during Winter has made us rather insular. The garden will wake up soon and I’ll feel the call to toil again and life will speed up. I’m enjoying this slow pace.

Hello Sue, my lovely! Order some frenchic paint online. Get the lazy range. It’s wonderful. Minimal prep, sticks to everything, gorgeous self waxing finish and durable. It’s a game changer. You need a paint brush and a little foam roller and you’ll be away!

Oh my goodness, you are so clever making slip covers, I'm not the best at sewing, although I used to make the kids clothes and a few bits and bobs for myself, but never something like a couch covering...too much to try and get my head around. I love seeing how people have places there things and them having a shuffle around. I wish there was a way of getting mud off dogs without having to shower them down. Bunny hates being showered so we towel her off but it leaves her quite muddy. No wonder I’m always having to clean!!

Until you said your Craft Room is called the "Bird Box" (which made me laugh) as you are the only bird in the house, I realised I had never given that a thought. What a gorgeous room I can just imagine how relaxing and a joy to work in it must be. If you KZbin "How to get into a safe without a Password" loads come up so fingers crossed one is helpful and you can get in to retrieve your precious DVDs and that will be one night sorted to reminisce and watch them. LOL

Covering a chair or sofa isn’t hard when you aren’t too worried about a perfect finish. It’s when perfect lines and piping is involved it gets difficult. I’m so happy I have finally got this done. X

What a lovely surprise to have a tour of your beautiful craft room. It is full of treasured gifts and memories. I love how you are not fussed about the dogs coming in and it shows it is a happy place to be. I have a handy craft corner upstairs (basically a box room) where I store my bits and pieces. A little small to do anything in but like you, I am grateful for the space. I tend to use the dining table like most people do for anything big. Being just me and the 4 dogs so it is not a problem if I leave stuff out, but I do not like to see all the mess either! Having a space to do anything creative is such a luxury and it give you the chance to indulge yourself too. I always believe craft people are the nicest people and we love to share our knowledge with others too. The cover for the sofa turned out well. I usually find the bit between the arms and the back of a sofa a nightmare to do. Well dear Cuckoo have a lovely weekend and stay safe. XXX

Yes that tricky bit where you get three panels meeting is awkward. Luckily it’s hidden by the cushion usually. I don’t enjoy that kind of sewing but I’m glad I did it eventually. I like dogs on the furniture, I know people frown upon it but I like my girls to be happy and comfy. They love a soft cozy spot. 🥰 I reckon you are a very besotted dog mummy too.

Adore your touches of special things throughout the house. Things place throughout the house like this bring me such joy as I look at them or pick them up and remember the person who gave it to me or the special place where I picked it up, How clever and talented you are whipping up that sofa cover! My sewing machine hates me and is very uncooperative. It may be time to get another one or perhaps for me to admit that I cannot sew and to stick to knitting and cooking to support my making needs. Chances are it’s the sewing machine not you. Maybe have it serviced and watch some how to videos and see how you get on. I love being able to make things like sofa covers. I don’t enjoy the making but I enjoy the result. I like a house with life and stories. I’m not one for buying and replacing things each season. I like things to stay with me forever.

I’m beavering away at home quietly going through the days ticking off long over due jobs on my list and being mum. The days have a routine to them that revolve around home schooling and other than that there’s very little going on so nothing much to share. The weather has been windy and wet so I can’t do much gardening (hurrah!) so nothing to film there. You’d all be bored to tears of I out out more videos as they’d all be the same 🤪🤩. I love that I’m missed though 😃😃😃

Beautiful!! Mine is very chaotic. So want it to be a place of serenity. You don't have a lot of yarn. I guess I'm a hoarder. I have at least 17 Rubbermaid tubs full of craft supplies, mostly yarn. Hi! Hello! I should do a video about my home. It’s 200+ years old so quite new compared to the 400 year old cottage I grew up in and the medieval house we almost bought. We don’t know a great deal of history about this house. Day I’ll research it but I don’t know where to start. We have 6 fireplaces = 3 wood burners, 2 open fires and one blocked up. Our house is a funny place. The original bit had had various farm out buildings renovated and absorbed into the house. And we knocked a rickety big down and built it up again to make another bedroom. Oh I hope your back! I only like a few blogs and your my most favorite. You have been missed. I don’t like blogs that have become so much about promotion of their “shop”, You have a charity, but you also share bits of your life and that is what I find so interesting. Because of your blog I have made bread, granola, Your gardening starts earlier that mine in Vermont and that gets me inspired to start ordering and starting my pots. I do wish I had a green house. I held fabric against the sofa and pinned it where there was already a seam. Does that make sense. There’s a good guide on farm house on Boone.

Homeschooling seems to be under control. The boys are doing ok but they miss their friends so much. I’m chuffed I finally got around to covering the sofa. I’ve had the fabric for years.

Gayna, I am soooo impressed with your sewing job on the couch cover. We had an almost identical loveseat in the same color and age and I was too lazy to recover it so we chucked it and now I regret it. Since Toby stopped using this room as his study he spends more time in here. He says he doesn’t like how it’s decorated but I think he must like how it feels in here because he is always disturbing me 🤣🤣 My slip cover is very rustic but it does the job and I like it luckily!

I'm so happy to spend my tea time with you this morning, Gayna! Well done of your slipcover. I've been wanting to try doing one for a chair which would be a good start, I think!
