Before visiting Singapore, we didn't know that the Singapore Botanic Garden was an UNESCO World Heritage site! It's one of only 3 gardens in the world to have such a designation. A number of themed gardens are contained inside - a rainforest walk, healing garden, foliage garden, orchid area, ginger, a fenced-in toxic garden, and more! We also visit Symphony Lake, where a Guiness World Record was set in 2009.
On Day 4, we take the bus to Kong Meng San Phor Kark See, also known as KMSPKS. It's the largest Buddhist temple in Singapore, and once we visited, we saw just how big that meant it was! The architecture was beautiful - incredibly different from architecture at home. Our visit took place on the same day as the annual QingMing festival, and that turned out to be a fantastic time to visit. Tons of people came to pay respect to their ancestors and loved ones. It was very special for us to share their day with them.

@@TalesFromOurPocket Dont be shocked if I tell you KMSPKS is well known in that many who visited there are for cremation, a final resting place for loved ones. There is a crematorium and columbarium there. No taboo for this. The beautiful and peaceful monastery grounds is another reason people visit. And f course Buddhists adherents go there to worship. Its a premier place with many prominent, famous abbots there, all who bestow great blessings upon the people. Lastly that location and many km2 around were formally one of the largest Chinese cemetery in Singapore, now developed into a modern new town called Bishan.

Kong Meng San (hokkien) meant Bright Hill which is why the nearest MRT station is called Bright Hill. It's where ppl put their ancestors' ashes. While it's nice, as a Singaporean it has nv struck me as an attraction.

Ah, my idea of a great start to the day in Singapore. Hit Tiong Bahru market and/or Bakery for breakfast, take the MRT to the Garden's top gate for 9:30, and then walk down the hill through the gardens to Tanglin Gate. From here you can find a bus going everywhere you might happen to want to be (MRT coming soon). I found the City Mapper app just brilliant! Oh, and my tip for making life in Singapore more fun. Buy a bunch of flowers at Tiong Bahru market and give them to the crew at the front desk of your hotel (I'm thinking 3/4 star boutique kind of place here). Maybe some for your room as well. The effect is obvious, and your days in Singapore will be much better.

Wow, didn't expect you guys to visit the temple. Nice! On top of the greenery we currently have, SG is intending to plant 1 million trees by 2030. If you visit Gardens By The Bay, you might be able to spot a family of otters. Another place you can try visit is Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve which is up north-west. It's roughly an hour walk and most nature lovers tend to visit the area for bird watching. There's an odd crocodile or 2 as well as otters that may appear. Also near to the wetland reserve is the Kranji War Memorial where it honors the men and women who died during WW2.

@@TalesFromOurPocket haha, if you realize some of the newer buildings now incorporate greenery into them. Especially public housing. Essentially vertical greenery. Regarding the 1 hour walk, it's how long it'll take to walk in the wetland reserve. You'll still need to take public transport to get there.

The more touristy temple in Singapore would be the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple closer to Chinatown in your previous video. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddha_Tooth_Relic_Temple_and_Museum Nevertheless, I think it's quite an experience to visit KMS during Qing Ming Festival for a local experience. :)

I’ve never thought of KMSPKS as a place to visit! I’ve been there a hundred times because my grandparents’ ashes are stored in their columbarium. I was there during Qing Ming this year, actually! But I’ve never thought to look around. I’ll check it out next time :)
