Taliban 'not victorious' in Afghanistan's Panjshir region, National Resistance Front says

FRANCE 24 spoke to Ali Maisam Nazary, head of foreign relations for the National Resistance Front of #Afghanistan (#NRF), an anti-Taliban military alliance which recently set up a parallel government in response to the #Taliban taking power. Nazary claimed that the country's new rulers "are not victorious" in Afghanistan's north-eastern #Panjshir region, that the "resistance is continuing" and that the NRF actually controls "more than half" of Panjshir, despite Taliban "propaganda" to the contrary.

I do understand your point, however, as one who has followed the situation and made some analyses of it, the things he said are "true" if you understand the reality and situation. For someone not knowing the facts, it sounds like he is talking about some dream, for someone knowing WHAT he means, the things he says are real. He claims the resistance is in contreol of (60%) of Panjshir area, and he is right! Taliban has shown videos of controlling the main city (and that is true), but they do not dear to go into the higher mountain area controlled by the resistance (even if they claimed they have took it all!). Yesterday a newsgroup reported of an attack on Taliban forces in Panjshir, that lasted for 2 hours. The resistance do guerilla tactics from the 60% that they control. What may be a misunderstanding (or thing the resistance should clearly point out) is that, when they talk about a democratic regime for Afghanistan, they COUNT IN, that other groups that resists Taliban MUST join the fight. Massoud alone cannot change the government (and has not claimed to do so either!!!), but the idea is that IF other groups JOIN the resistance, they could force Taliban to make changes. Massoud tries to reorganise and negotiate to restore the NORTHERN ALLIANCE... if he is capable of that, we do NOT know yet.

Well unlike the Soviets, the Taliban are from there so if worst came to worst for the Taliban would bring their Pashtun tribesmen from the southern parts of Afghanistan and have them settle in the Panjshir, and move the Panjshiris to southern parts of Afghanistan, there would go the local support. Then they left them stranded without pay (which most sent to their families), food, ammunition, technicians, air cover etc. The US military knew this would happen and warned Mr Biden but he pushed ahead anyway without a truly well-thought out and well- planned evacuation and left behind thousands of desperate people including 200 Americans. Rory Stewart, the military and the EU are right the Americans should not have pulled out. It was a strategic blunder. By 2017 it cost them very little in money, troops or casualties. What he should have done is do proper nation building. He should have set up a general auditor's office and corruption court under US n allies control. Ridding a nation of corruption is true nation building but US seems to have forgotten how to do that and forgotten the it takes far longer than 20 years. Had they done that the Afghans would also have had a civilian government that did not run away at the drop of a hat. Mr Biden scolded the Afghan national army for disintegrating and not fighting but he does not help those who did make their way to the Pasjir valley and fought.
